In case you weren’t aware, Prime Gaming is basically the combination of Twitch and Amazon, as the massive company has owned the other massive company since 2014, after paying nearly a billion dollars for it.

If that’s breaking news to you, well this might blow your mind: every month Prime Gaming gives away loads of freebies just for linking your accounts up. For example, right now there are New World goodies to get, and you just need to log in to Amazon, then link your Steam account, and hey ho, that’s you wearing a pirate themed skin in the best new MMO I’ve played in ages.

To check the stuff that’s available right now, you can just go to this link. But for November? Well, we’ve got a massive list of new freebies coming our way. Seriously, there’s so much I’m just going to paste the list Amazon sent over to us, which even has links to the content itself. Ready? Here we go…

It’s not just addons, as you’ll see. There are entire games available for free. If you haven’t played Control, yet, you’re gonna be a happy camper!

  • Dragon Age Inquisition – Players can become the hero as they are tasked with making important decisions that shape the future of Thedas. With constant wars and demonic invasions, champions must band together to lead the land of strife to victory… or fall.
  • Control Ultimate Edition – Developed by Remedy Entertainment, the main game and previously released expansions, including “The Foundation” and “Awe” are available in one great value package.
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider – Embark on an adventure into Siberia as Lara Croft in search for the legendary city of Kitezh while battling the paramilitary organization Trinity, which intends to uncover the city’s promise of immortality.
  • Rogue Heroes – Team up with friends to combat procedural dungeons and explore the expansive overworld full of secrets to take down the Titans and save the once peaceful land of Tasos in this 1-4 player classic adventure game with modern rogue-lite elements.
  • Liberated – Ignite the revolution as players lock, load, and get ready for a new kind of action adventure! Uncover a cyberpunk conspiracy against human rights in the rain-soaked city inside a paperback comic.
  • Puzzle Agent 2 – In this sequel to the award winning Puzzle Agent, Agent Nelson Tethers just solved the biggest case of his career. Worried that the case will languish forever unsolved, Tethers ventures back to the eerie town of Scoggins, MN to solve the mystery of “the Hidden People” once and for all.
  • Demon Hunter 2: New Chapter – In the sequel to Demon Hunter: Chronicles from Beyond, Dawn challenges players to face puzzles and mini games which reveal secrets that threaten to shake the core of her very existence.
  • BAFL – Brakes Are For Losers – Challenge friends, pick a funky car and outrun competitors with fierce driving skills and dirty tricks in the game that emanates pure arcade fun.
  • Secret Files: Sam Peters – Discover the truth about the Asanbosam, a mysterious creature that lurks behind the trees in Bosumtwi, a mysterious crater lake in Africa. Join journalist Sam Peters as she searches for answers behind the legends of the Ashanti people in Ghana.

Exhausted? Me too, but there’s more somehow, as Prime Gaming and Riot have teamed up for a long-term deal to make Riot’s game better for Amazon Prime members through exclusive-in-game content.

Prime members will have an opportunity to claim the following exciting new offers:

  • League of Legends – The Prime Gaming Capsule includes 650 Riot Points, an unknown 1350 RP skin, five Champion Shards Permanent, 200 Orange Essence, two sets of Series 1 Eternals, and a 30-day xp boost.
  • League of Legends Esports – League of Legends World Championship viewers can collect a custom esports emote, with more exclusive esports emotes available during 2022 League of Legends esports global events.
  • League of Legends: Wild Rift  Beginning on November 18, Prime members can grab exclusive content every two weeks for an entire year (24 drops total) for the mobile game. Content will include random Baubles, Emotes, Recalls, Skins, and Skin Poses.

That’s it, I need to go for a lie-down. Keep your eyes on this link to stay up to date. Phew.

Now the PlayStation-exclusive Call of Duty: Vanguard beta weekend is over, this coming weekend gives Xbox and PC players a chance to check out Sledgehammer’s latest offering. Having played more than a few hours on PS5, I have some thoughts on the good and bad elements in this year’s iteration.

For a start, Vanguard is atmospherically on point. While I know not many people jump into a CoD multiplayer mode for the immersion (usually they come for the gratuitous violence and bragging rights), the maps on display in the beta are all visually impressive and dripping with ambience. My favourite by far was Red Star, a map set during the Battle of Stalingrad.

Call of Duty: Vanguard Beta – Stalin-rad

Some will, and have, take issue with the colour palette here. Muted hues, heavy snow, smoke and debris make it hard to make out details. The fact it’s so open in certain areas adds to the constant fear of catching a sniper’s bullet or rocket-propelled grenade in the ear. Explosions rattle the game world, patches of fire catch your eye against the white snow and easily distract you from your prey.

Call of Duty: Vanguard Beta

Hotel Royal, on the other hand, is set in a luxurious Parisian hotel. It’s a far cry from the war-torn streets of Red Star, or even the weather-beaten island of Gavutu. I’ve never minded low visibility or intense weather effects, even in online multiplayer games. That kind of element is a great equalizer, though I can imagine sweatier players getting upset when a relative noob gets the drop on them thanks to heavy rain.

Hot streak

Racking up those kills once again earns Killstreaks instead of Scorestreaks. Honestly, I preferred the latter. The problem with Killstreaks is that they put the onus on just nailing kills, and in objective-based modes this is a real pain in the arse. It’s great to be wiping out the competition, but take a mode like Kill Confirmed. The entire point of this mode is to hoover up red dog-tags to confirm kills and blue ones to deny the enemy. With everyone chasing kills to get their streaks up, I was constantly seeing maps littered with tags which I then felt weirdly duty-bound to go and collect. I get how much fun it is to shoot stuff in these games, but incentivising people to ignore the objective is a weird flex.

New mode, Champion Hill, returns from the Alpha Test, and provides a solid mix of arena-based action. The CH maps are small, compact affairs, all linked together around a central area in which you can spend cash earned during the live fire rounds. It’s a cool, complex mode that will produce a number of new strategies and meta loadouts due to its tiny maps, quick-fire nature, and onus on wiping out opposing squads quickly and efficiently.

Call of Duty: Vanguard Beta

Blow your cover

Unlike previous Call of Duty games, Vanguard will feature destructible elements in the environment, from doors and windows to cover positions. Which is not as exciting as it sounds – and in fact I didn’t even really pay much attention to it at first. It differs from something like Battlefield where you can fundamentally change a map over the course of a match, or even take down whole buildings to squash pesky snipers. It’s much more subtle than that, but it’s still a welcome addition.

Outside of Champion Hill the modes on offer in the beta are nothing overly thrilling, featuring Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and new mode Patrol. While the first three are pretty standard by now, the fourth is an interesting mode that takes the control zone of Hardpoint and turns it into a roaming capture zone. You need to be in control of the Patrol zone at all times to earn points, which makes it a constantly exciting and involving mode. It’s no good just grabbing the zone and digging in; you need to really work together to cover all the angles.

The idea of being able to alter the “Combat Pacing” options is pretty cool. This allows you to chooses how many players will be in the match, from the 6-a-piece Tactical mode up the 48-player Blitz. The problem here is that most of Vanguard’s maps just aren’t built for more than a dozen fighters. It becomes incredibly hard to dig in and defend or walk more than three steps without someone popping up and slotting you immediately. Which is, of course, an optional choice if you really want that level of challenge and chaos.

Call of Duty: Vanguard Beta

Call of Duty: Vanguard Beta: A time to kill

One thing I haven’t had a chance to really play around with is the Gunsmith. Originally introduced in Modern Warfare, this mode allows you to modify your weaponry to an insane amount. It’s stepped up even further in Call of Duty: Vanguard, allowing you to equip as many as 10 (seriously, 10) mods on your guns. Customisation is awesome, but having so many mods to apply can feel like too much of a muchness, especially when combined with the staple addition of player perks.

Perhaps because it was a beta, or perhaps because I don’t suck as hard as I used to, the main thing I’ve taken away so far is that Vanguard is a hell of a lot of fun. I don’t feel I’m being annihilated buy insanely short TTK, and I was staying alive, moving from point to point and, most importantly, contributing to my team’s score or kills in a meaningful way. That’s important for someone who plays CoD casually and, y’know, for fun.

Ultimately, Call of Duty: Vanguard is going to live or die by its multiplayer. A massive percentage of players won’t even bother with the campaign, and die-hard players will be far, far more critical than I have been. But so far, there’s evidence of a lot of good decisions in the Vanguard beta. The swap back to Killstreaks seems an odd choice, to be honest, but Champion Hill is a great mode, the Gunsmith offers a frankly dizzying level of weapon modding, and the small selection of maps we’ve seen so far are encouraging. Over all, this is shaping up to be a solid release for Sledgehammer.

It’s been quiet on the CoD front for a long time, but we finally got news that Call of Duty Vanguard arrives on November 5th today. With a Campaign, Zombies, and more multiplayer maps than ever Vanguard is bringing a ton of content to this new title.

“Scheduled to start November 5 players will turn the tides of war to experience World War II like never before in Call of Duty®: Vanguard. Alongside a seamlessly integrated, new Warzone experience coming later this year, the massive amount of Call of Duty content will provide players an unrivalled offering.

Vanguard delivers the complete package to Call of Duty fans across Campaign, online Multiplayer and Zombies co-operative modes. Players will witness the origins of Special Forces as they change the face of history, forming Task Force One in a sprawling World War II narrative campaign spanning the Eastern and Western fronts of Europe, the Pacific, and North Africa. Multiplayer features 20 maps on day one at launch. While Zombies fans will experience a signature undead gameplay experience, marking a franchise-first Zombies crossover for Call of Duty.

Later this year, Vanguard players will be immersed in a fully integrated, new Call of Duty®: Warzone™ experience featuring a brand-new map, new gameplay and new experiences. Together, this is the most connected Call of Duty ever, all powered by the next-generation Call of Duty engine introduced in Modern Warfare®.

“Call of Duty: Vanguard is primed to deliver a stunning range of gameplay experiences for the entire Call of Duty community. Vanguard’s breadth of content is a hallmark of the title, with more multiplayer maps on day one than ever before and the first Zombies crossover in Call of Duty history,” said Johanna Faries, General Manager, Call of Duty, Activision. “Warzone fans will also experience a host of exciting new things to come as part of the new launch. We can’t wait to share more soon.””

After last year’s Cold War, it’ll be exciting to see how a new Call of Duty takes advantage of the current gaming hardware. It’s not too long until it launches in November, so series fans will be able to experience all this new content soon.

The Call of Duty Endowment (CODE) has announced that the second C.O.D.E Bowl will occur on December 11 and be presented by USAA.

The C.O.D.E. Bowl is the Endowment’s cornerstone charity event set up to raise awareness and funds for veteran employment. For the first time ever, all five of the U.S. Department of Defence military branches and UK military are taking part with members from their own eSports teams.

This year’s C.O.D.E. Bowl includes three new teams making their debut from the US Marine Corps, US Air Force and the US Space Force. The teams from the UK come from the British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. The C.O.D.E. Bowl will also be the first trans-Atlantic military eSports competition to feature all of these branches.

“We are proud to have the United States and the United Kingdom militaries come together to participate in the C.O.D.E. Bowl,” said Dan Goldenberg, Executive Director of the Call of Duty Endowment. “This will be the first time all military branches have come together for a spirited eSports competition with the added bonus of raising awareness for veteran employment and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with USAA to make this happen.”

The C.O.D.E. Bowl will begin at 6:00 p.m. GMT on December 11, and will feature eight teams each captained by a popular Call of Duty streamer teamed up with another top influencer and service members from the United States and the United Kingdom. They will be competing in matches from the newly released Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in a tournament-style competition. The action is to be broadcast live on the Call of Duty YouTube and Twitch channels.

“C.O.D.E. With the release of the excellent Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War came with it the promise of much more content down the line. This week marked the first with Nuketown ’84 – with some new weapons and double XP to celebrate.

Nuketown itself has been given a post-nuclear coat of paint with cracked buildings, DIY paths and plenty of fire. The trailer down below introduces it perfectly contrasting that psychedelic inspired art with the crumbling foundation around it. Not only this, there appear to be a few more changes made this time around with new paths for the RCXD and a clock tower counting down the map time.

The layout is ever so slightly different and is designed as a “sister site to the original nuketown” tweeted:

creative specialist Miles Leslie. This is done to fit that balance in years between the singleplayer in 1981 and the multiplayer in 1983. Making it the original Nuketwon might constrain it somewhat so this allowed them to get creative. Its been abandoned for over thirty years and the aesthetic shows that.

Moving from here, there are also 6 charms, an emblem, calling card, sticker and weapon blueprint available to current owners of the game. With the number of weapons already available in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and the time it might take you to unlock anything for the Huaer 77 shotgun, this is a welcome addition. Starting November 24th, double XP should get you there even faster.

As always, this map hides a sneaky easter egg too. Shoot the heads off all the mannequins for a nice surprise. Doing so activates a retro filter complete with a black and purple sky. You might want to keep an ear out for that addictive synthwave music too.

This is all available right now so hop in and get shooting.

Activision has announced the worldwide launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Cold War is a direct sequel to fan favourite Call of Duty: Black Ops, and infuses the 1980s pop cultures into a gripping conspiracy set at the height of the Cold War. The fictional story campaign will see players having to stop a plot decades in the making that threatens to destabilise the global balance of power and change the course of history.

Along with the single player campaign, Cold War also comes with the next generation of online multiplayer and an all-new co-operative Zombies survival mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War supports cross-play across next generation and current generation systems with cross progression across all modes. Players have also been promised a series of free, post-launch content across Multiplayer and Zombies, as well as a robust schedule of in-game community events.

“Today’s launch starts the next great Black Ops experience across story, multiplayer and zombies in a direct sequel to one of the most iconic titles in Call of Duty,” said Byron Beede, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Call of Duty, Activision.  “This is just the beginning.  Our players can look forward to the biggest series of post-launch free content, community events and ongoing support ever in Black Ops plus tight integration across the ecosystem with Warzone.  It’s a great time to play Call of Duty.”

The release of a new Black Ops title adds to the momentum across Call of Duty following the recent releases of Warzone and Modern Warfare, along with Call of Duty: Mobile, pushing the franchise to more than 100 million monthly active users.

Call of Duty: Warzone is the free-to-play title that will now integrate with both Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare. Progression will be synchronised across all three titles, and weapon progression from Black Ops Cold War or Modern Warfare both will be shared with Warzone. From today, Black Ops Cold War Operators will be available for play in Warzone, and from December 10 at the launch of Season One, Black Ops Cold War weapons will be added too.

The Battle Pass system continues, and will start in Season One in December with brand new content for Black Ops Cold War. Warzone players can progress through the battle pass system by playing any of the three Call of Duty games.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now worldwide on PlayStation 5 (Australia, Japan, New Zealand, North America, Singapore and South Korea, and November 19 for the rest of the world), PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.

The first Call of Duty game of a new generation always feels like a big deal. With new consoles approaching, the Black Ops Cold War launch trailer is now live. Offering an incredible looking single player, as well as multiplayer and zombies modes, Cold War is looking like a great entry in the successful series.

“1981. The Cold War is at its peak. World powers grapple for control and a hidden threat looms. In Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, players will engage in deniable operations, fighting the battles that never happened to stop a conspiracy decades in the making.

A mind-bending single-player Campaign awaits, with Black Ops protagonists Alex Mason, Frank Woods, and Jason Hudson teaming up with an all-new crew to track down a mysterious enemy known only as Perseus.

In the next generation of Black Ops Multiplayer, travel the globe from the deserts of Angola to the frigid Black Sea in a fully-connected, cross-play experience including 6v6, 12v12, and 40-player Fireteam battles.

And an all-new Zombies co-op experience awaits you and your squad in the debut of the Dark Aether story, “Die Maschine.” As you join forces with a CIA-backed international response team known as Requiem, the secrets of a horrifying WWII-era experiment will threaten the balance of the global order.”

I heard great things about last year’s Modern Warfare, and this new entry looks like something special too. Whether you want to play on Xbox One, Series X or PS4/5, it won’t be long until we can all ty it ourselves on November 13th.

The post Solos is coming to Warzone appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

If you’ve been playing Warzone and think three is two too many for a team then this news will interest you. Solos is making its way to Warzone. No more carrying the team but on the other no one to blame if the play goes awry.

In Solos you’ll drop into Verdansk alone with typical Battle Royale rules. Just you, a pistol and a few bullets which has been described as a typical CoD free-for-all except on a massive scale.

You can loot, complete contracts and attempt to survive against the other 149 players. All the while the circle is getting smaller and closing you in. You can still jump into the Gulag for some 1v1 but if you lose, you’re done. As with all BR games, last standing wins.

If you’re feeling a bit nervous about taking on the Warzone on your own, Activision has your back. They’ve put together 5 tips to help you through it:

  1. Going Solo? Intel is Your Best Teammate. Along with paying attention to the Tac Map and Compass, be especially thorough about finding, and equipping, reconnaissance tools such as the Recon Drone, Heartbeat Monitor, and UAV.
  2. Same Gulag. Same Player Count. No Buybacks. You only have one life to live in Solos. Make it count, both in the Gulag and out in Verdansk.
  3. Consider Picking Up Contracts. This especially goes for Recon Contracts, as in Solos, the station capture time is halved compared to other modes. Complete Contracts and get Cash to further build up your loadout at Buy Stations.
  4. … and Stay Down. Self-Revive Kits are in Solos. If it’s getting late into a game and you’re wary of an enemy after knocking them to zero health, double check that they are out for good before moving on.
  5. Learn from Your Solos. While you may have less of a chance at winning Solos, take the lessons you learn into your next game with the squad. Who knows? A few Solos matches could be the difference between losing your next Battle Royale trios game and a hard-fought victory.

If you have your eye on the number one spot then best get some practice in.

With the success of PUBG and Fortnite on mobile, it should come as no surprise that Activision has brought Call of Duty to the App Store and Google Play store. The only surprise is that it’s taken this long, really.

In collaboration with Tencent Games and developed by their TiMi Studios, Call of Duty: Mobile brings the blockbuster franchise to mobile as a free-to-play FPS. It includes weapons, maps and iconic characters from all across the franchise, including the Modern Warfare and Black Ops series, in an all-in-one multiplayer experience with traditional head-to-head modes and an “all-new Battle Royale experience including classic locations from Call of Duty featuring land, sea and air vehicles.”

“Call of Duty: Mobile represents a landmark moment for us to bring one of the most successful entertainment franchises in history to the world’s largest platform,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “This is a triple-A, free to play experience that we’re delivering to a whole new audience of fans.”

PS4 players can dive into the newest Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 season: ‘Operation Dark Divide’. Those on other platforms will have to wait just a little bit longer I’m afraid.

The new content, which has been inspired by heroes and villians, two new multiplayer maps, a new Blackout mode and hero-themed personalisation items and gear.

In addition, Treyarch are concluding the Aether storyline, which has been over 10 years in the making, with ‘Tag Der Toten’.

“For our final operation of the Black Ops Season, the team at Treyarch had a blast creating the ultimate battle between good and evil, imagined through alternate universe versions of our Specialist characters as heroes and villains,” said Dan Bunting, Co-Studio Head, Treyarch. “In addition to the heroic experiences of the operation, we can’t wait to share the epic final chapter of the Zombies Aether story – the end of an adventure more than ten years in the making.”

Mark Gordon, Co-Studio Head, Treyarch continued, “Having introduced Zombies as an easter egg in Call of Duty®: World at War, this final chapter for the Aether storyline marks an emotional moment for us as developers. We’ve poured all of that energy and emotion into Tag Der Toten, and we can’t wait for players to experience it for themselves.”

As well as the above, the ‘Operation Dark Divide’ update will also include:

  • New Blackout Updates – Blackout is getting a new comoc book aesthetic. You can also double jump in the new limited-time mode, Heavy Metal Heroes. New equipment like flare guns and a new tank vehicle have also been added o the battlefield.
  • New Zombies Features Operation Dark Divide introduces a new Perk and two new Elixirs as part of the Aether storyline:
    • Secret Shopper Elixer: Players will be able to go on an ammo shopping spree and buy any ammo for any gun they’re holding from any wall buy.
    • Power Vacuum Elixer: The drop rate for all power ups is boosted significantly for a few minutes after activating.
    • Blaze Phase Perk: Players can become a charging fireball that knocks enemies back or burns them to a crisp.
  • New Black Market Gear – The Black Market has been restocked with a variety of new outfits fit for both heroes and villains, personalisation items, weapon camos and gestures. This includes new weapons like the VMP SMG, AN-94 Assault Rifle and the Echohawk Dual Bore Assault Rifle. Also available are the MkII and the Mastercraft variants of the VKM 750, the Predator S6 Stingray Mastercraft, and two super outfits for Nomad (“Lupine”) and Crash (“Rigor Mortis”).

Activision, in collaboration with Tencent, have announced that Call of Duty: Mobile will launch on October 1 in countries that support Google Play and the App Store. Unfortunately Mainland China and Vietnam aren’t included.

Call of Duty: Mobile will have fan favourite maps, modes weapons and characters from across the Call of Duty series including the Modern Warfare and Black Ops series. CoD: Mobile is being developed by Tencent’s Timi Studios and is free to play on Android and iOS.

“We are delivering the definitive, first-person action experience on mobile with signature Call of Duty gameplay in the palms of your hands,” said Chris Plummer, VP, Mobile at Activision. “We are bringing together some of the best the franchise has to offer, including Modern Warfare maps like Crash and CrossfireBlack Ops maps like Nuketown and Hijacked, and many more, into one epic title. We’ve tested the game extensively in select territories and the feedback we’ve received has helped us refine the experience for October 1st.”

CoD: Mobile will launch with multiplayer and battle royal modes with more modes, content, time limited events and playlists to be added regularly.

Multiplayer will have classic modes like Team Deathmatch, Search and Destroy and Free-for-All and include some recognisable maps like Nuketown, Crash and Highjacked. As you rank up you can earn and unlock Call of Duty characters like John “Soap” McTavish and Simon “Ghost” Riley from the Modern Warfare series and Alex Mason from Black Ops. CoD: Mobile will also include weapons, score streaks and additional gear, for equipping and customizing loadouts.

The battle royale mode has been specifically built and tailored for CoD: Mobile and will have up to 100 players facing off against each other. You can do this solo, as part of a duo or as a team of 4. You will also be fighting across land, sea and air with vehicles including an ATV, helicopter, and tactical raft. You’ll also find weapons from throughout the CoD series scattered about the map.

If CoD: Mobile sounds like your kind of thing then you can sign up and pre-register at www.callofduty.com/mobile.

Last night, the world got its first taste of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer. Streamed live, the event teased the game’s new 2v2 Gunfight mode, which pits two teams of two against one another on small, custom-designed maps.

In this mode, everyone gets the same loadout, so it’s all about the skill of each player on a level playing field. Every two rounds, the loadout will change, and with each round only lasting 40 seconds it’s probably going to be the most frantic Call of Duty game mode to date. After 40 seconds, if no team has won, a flag will spawn at random as part of “Overtime.” You’ll have 10 seconds to capture the flag, only then by holding it for 3 seconds. During Overtime, either capturing the flag or killing the other team will win the round. The first team to win 6 rounds is the overall winner.

Three maps were shown last night:

  • King: the interior of a warehouse.
  • Pine: the exterior of a dense forest.
  • Stack: a desert container yard.

Activision says that Gunfight can be compared to a fighting game, with its fast-paced action and quick turnaround times. How this game mode will work for those of us not very good at Call of Duty (my reflexes are those of an old man, when it comes to these games), remains to be seen.

What else remains to be seen is the remainder of the Modern Warfare multiplayer, which will be fully unveiled on August 1st via Twitch. Activision and Infinity Ward will also be releasing “intel drops” throughout July, in the run up to the full reveal.

And finally, it has been revealed that pre-orders of Modern Warfare will unlock the Classic Captain Price character in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases on October 25th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Tomorrow the final of KFC’s first ever eSports tournament and sixteen players will fight it out over a £50,000 prize pool and a KFC Black Card.

For those that don’t know (like me until about 5 minutes ago) a KFC Black Card entitles the user to unlimited KFC chicken, which is surely worth the price of the tournament itself? But the winner will also walk away £15,000 richer as well. There were sixteen qualifying rounds over five weeks leading up to this, and now the sixteen finalists have teamed up with a bunch of content creators and have been training together ready to kick ass in the name of chicken.

You’ll be able to watch the final from 3pm uk time tomorrow via the streams of the content creators, details for which you can find here: http://www.kfcroyale.com/kfc/leagues/final/1257-grand-final

Not a huge amount of news this week, but the new Alien game is most certainly not what we hoped for, and there’s also time to talk about Call of Duty as it may well have a single-player component next time out.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 was a nice surprise considering the furore around the lack of a campaign, but a new IW job listing suggests it could come back.

A report over at Dexerto has a screenshot from said job listing which asks candidates to have ‘a broad understanding of multiplayer and single player game design’. It also states that it’s for ‘an unannounced next gen title’, take that with a pinch of salt though, as many people still refer to this current generation as ‘next gen’, although considering Sony are skipping E3 this year, as well as cancelling their own PSX event last year, seems to suggest that a next generation could be round the corner, it’s not impossible.

The idea of this coming on the next generation of consoles though seems unlikely because CoD is a yearly thing with this year being Infinity Ward’s turn, and I highly doubt a new generation will start this year. Unless this job listing is laying the ground work for a future title beyond this year.

Also highlighted in Dexerto’s report is the following which shows that the duties of the role will include high quality 3rd person character animation. Could the new game also have a thrid person mode, just to switch things up a bit?

It’s also highly possible that this could wind up being a completely new IP, it’ll be interesting to watch this unfold though.

Thanks to Dexerto.

Activision’s support page got updated with the installation FAQ for Black Ops 4 ahead of its release later this week.

If you’re buying it on disc on PS4 or Xbox One, get ready for a massive patch. The day one patch (required for play thanks to the game being online only) is around 50GB. You can start playing Blackout mode when 16-20GB is downloaded as detailed on the page. This is much larger than the day one patch WWII had. For digital versions, the file size day one is 55GB.

While some have speculated that day one patches combat early releases, that isn’t the case here because you cannot play the game without any sized day one patch. Activision could do a 1 MB day one update and have that released when they want (like Fortnite’s scheduled updates on all platforms ensuring everyone plays when Epic Games chooses) instead of destroying the chance for fans with slow internet or data caps to play this day one.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases on October 12 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Thanks, Gadgets360.

“With Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the Call of Duty World League is poised to have its most exciting and biggest season yet. Beginning in Las Vegas and continuing throughout 2019, CWL fans can expect the best players from around the world to battle even harder to be crowned Call of Duty World League Champion,” said Executive Vice President and General Manager of Call of Duty, Rob Kostich. “This season brings a ton of new storylines, including the move to five vs. five in CWL. In August 2019, the CWL Championship will round out the season with the best players in the world competing for the title of CWL Champion, plus a large slice of the prizing.

Amateurs will have their own fight, competing through Challengers, a dedicated amateur circuit played in CWL LAN events throughout 2019. The result of these competitions will see the best teams competing for a place in the inaugural Challengers playoffs.

The post Blackout is a good attempt at the Battle Royale phenomenon, but lacks innovation appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Last week I wrote some thoughts on the recent Battlefield V beta wherein I said that the Battlefield franchise seems to be to be in an odd place at the moment. Frankly, I should have kept my powder dry on that statement for this week’s Beta of another huge FPS franchise – Blackout, Call of Duty’s take on Battle Royale. So, here is my take – Call of Duty is in a weird place at the moment.

Over the course of the past few days I have spent some time with Blackout on PS4 and let me just say that it is a fun an exciting mode. If you have played any other take on the Battle Royale genre of shooters, then you will be more than familiar with the set up. Players of up to 80 (now raised to 88) are dropped off into a huge sprawling map with resources, weapons and vehicles spread out over its vastness, and your job is to be the last man or woman standing. You can team up in a squad of four, work in a pair or attempt it all solo. Over time the map becomes smaller and smaller (in this case due to an unidentified toxic gas), forcing those players still left alive into an ever decreasing circle until the last one standing wins the game.

Blackout works extremely well, movement is fluid and so far I haven’t experienced any issues that would make me question the stability of the game’s engine. This is by far the biggest map of any Call of Duty I have played and is certainly the largest population of players in any one game, and it runs very well. Also new to Call of Duty’s multiplayer is the addition of vehicles, which are straightforward and easy to control, and provide players with a much quicker way of getting around the sizeable map, something I was slightly sceptical of when I first entered the cockpit of a helicopter.

The map itself boasts a number of areas that players who are familiar with Call of Duty Black Ops’ extensive catalogue of past multiplayer games will recognise; a burned out version of Nuketown on it’s own island, Turbine, Firing Range, Raid, as well as others I have yet to visit. Weapon pick-ups, along with their attachments will be familiar to long term Call of Duty players as well, with silencers, ELO sights, quick load clips etc.. Also littered about the map are consumable perks, these one-use items take a few seconds to equip and have a time limited use on them so you will require a certain amount of tactical experience to understand when best to use them (if you even get chance at all), so far I have come across only a few of these: Brawler which I am assuming allows you to do more melee damage; Iron Lung which allows you to hold your breath for longer, best utilised for long distance shooting to reduce the weapon sway; and Dead Silence which should be more than familiar to anyone who has played Call of Duty over the years. It all gives a sense of familiarity and instantly feels recognisable that you are playing a Call of Duty game, albeit in an entirely different way to that you are used to.

Blackout is a very impressive beta and I suspect it will be an extremely popular mode when Black Ops four finally releases, I am just struggling a little to really understand where Call of Duty is heading at the moment. There was a time when Call of Duty felt like it was an innovator in the multiplayer FPS space. Fast TTK, specific and instantly recognisable map structure, perks and extensive weapon customisation drip-fed to you over an addictive loop of kill, die, repeat. The past few instalments, however, have started to feel like Call of Duty is now chasing the crowd.

We have had new ways of movement, first seen in the 2014 release of Titanfall, Specialists reminiscent of Hero Shooters such as Overwatch and Siege, even Destiny, and now we have Blackout, a mode that apes PUBG right down to the colour-ways used in the map design. This isn’t a bad thing necessarily, because whilst none of the recent changes to Call of Duty feel truly unique to that franchise any more, at least when they are implemented they are done so with technical proficiency. It just feels a little odd for, what has been for a long, long time, one of the biggest games in the FPS genre.

Blackout is good, it may even be great. It runs better than the aforementioned PUBG does on the Xbox console, and the shooting feels just as tight and weighty as you’d expect from developers Treyarch, it just doesn’t feel particularly innovative. Call of Duty is in a weird place right now.

It has been confirmed by Treyarch’s co-studio head, Dan Bunting that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode will be available to support up to 80 players when the beta drops next Monday. In an interview with Gameinformer he was keen to point out that this may not be the final total that is used in the main game, as work continues to improve on the experience.

However 80 at the time of the beta launch was felt to be a good level in order for the beta to still provide a solid experience for gamers. It will then use feedback from gamers to improve the experience both for launch and on an ongoing basis thereafter.

Timings of the beta on various platforms can be accessed from the Call of Duty twitter page below, starting exclusively for PS4 owners on 10th September:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches worldwide on PS4, Xbox One and PC on 12th October.

Thanks, Eurogamer

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for over a decade, you’ll probably know that Call of Duty is one of the biggest things on the planet. You’ll probably also know that Activision now tends to offer limited multiplayer betas as pre-order incentives for each new game in the series, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is no exception.

Well, that beta is now live on PS4, for those with codes.

This multiplayer beta will last from Friday 3rd August, 6pm BST, until Monday 6th August, 6pm BST.

For those of you on Xbox One and PC, the second beta will take place the following weekend. This means that everyone with codes on all three formats can play from Friday 10th August, 6pm BST, until Monday 13th August, 6pm BST. The PC version will also have a completely open beta between August 11th-13th.

“The Call of Duty®: Black Ops 4 Private Multiplayer BETA features six maps, several game modes including the all-new Control mode, and the opportunity to play as ten different Specialists. The BETA content represents just a portion of the multiplayer content that will be available at launch on 12th October. In Black Ops 4, Specialists each have their own unique weapons, equipment and playstyles. Players can be powerful alone, or devastating as a team working together. The BETA also features the return of the iconic Pick 10 system, along with a series of innovations in weapon handling, combat flow and health regeneration. Players will have the opportunity to strategize with their team through tactical teamplay while discovering unique and powerful ways to combine Specialist skills and dominate their opponents.”

On top of this beta, there will be another during September to showcase the new Blackout mode. In case you missed it, this mode is Call of Duty’s first foray into the ever-growing Battle Royale genre.

Dan Bunting, co-studio head at Treyarch, had this to say about the Black Ops 4 beta:

“The team at the studio is dedicated to delivering the deepest and most rewarding multiplayer we’ve ever made, and we want community feedback to make the game’s launch the best it can be – we can’t wait for fans to jump in and let us know what they think.”

Are you going to be playing the beta? Let us know your thoughts.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will release on October 12th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Third Call of Duty: WWII DLC Pack United Front Announced https://www.godisageek.com/2018/06/call-duty-wwii-dlc-pack-united-front-announced/ Tue, 26 Jun 2018 17:53:54 +0000 http://www.godisageek.com/?p=208876 New maps and Zombies.

Just as we’re in the middle of a heatwave here in the UK, Activision is turning up the heat even more for Call of Duty: World War II fans; announcing that the third DLC is out today on PS4.

Titled United Front, this new DLC adds three new multiplayer maps:

Market Garden

The Market Garden in Call of Duty: WWII is set against the backdrop of Operation Market Garden, one of the largest airborne operations in the European Theatre. This is where players will fight off the Axis advances to try and maintain control of an Allied mansion base.

Monte Cassino

Players can be part of the Italian campaign in Monte Cassino. Nestled below a mountaintop monastery, this war-torn village offers rich verticality with rooftop vantage points and sneaky flank paths along the cliffs.

Stalingrad

Stalingrad, based on the largest confrontation in World War II history, features two main bases located on opposite sides of a war-torn city. Snipers can focus on securing key perches to control the map’s center, while run-and-gunners can sneak through the underground sewers to flank behind enemy lines.

On top of those maps, the above trailer has no doubt clued you into the addition of a new Nazi Zombies chapter, The Tortured Path:

The Allied forces are crumbling under the relentless advance of the Final Reich. General Rideau decides to take one last, dangerous gambit: to personally lead a small, unmarked caravan across the 2,000 miles of smouldering, infested land that stand between Berlin and the Allied-controlled port of Malaga. From there, he and his crew face a treacherous voyage across icy southern waters and U-boat blockades. The mission will be to transport the remaining pieces of Emperor Barbarossa’s legendary sword to the edge of the world. Uncover the lost forges of ancient Thule. Players can experience the all-new Nazi Zombies gameplay, which transports players across three unique and challenging locations, only in the United Front DLC Pack.

Finally, the United Front DLC adds a new War Mode mission for you to sink your teeth into:

Operation Supercharge

Named after the Second Battle of El Alamein, Field Marshal Montgomery and the Allied Forces pushed the Germans and Italians to retreat from their last significant defensive position in southern Tunisia. In this all new mission, the Allies airdrop into Tunisia and push into a Nazi-occupied village to capture key supplies, then cripple the enemy by detonating a key transport bridge. They then make the final knock-out blow by capturing entrenched Axis fortifications.

Call of Duty: United Front is out now on PlayStation 4 priced £11.59, or is included as part of the Season Pass.

Activision and Treyarch will reveal gameplay for what is likely going to be one of the best selling games of the year. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will release this October and the gameplay reveal is this evening. In addition to obviously seeing some gameplay, they will reveal the platforms and edition as well. There have been rumours of a Nintendo Switch version and the lack of a single player campaign. A Switch port is unlikely but we will only know at the event. Here’s what to expect and where to tune in:

Platforms
PS4, Xbox One, and PC alongside the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are basically a given but a Switch version is still a small possibility. The PC version is also rumoured to follow Destiny 2’s footsteps and ditch Steam for Battle.net.

Gameplay modes
There are rumours of no single player and the addition of a Battle Royale mode. It will definitely be something if the single player is completely axed for this release.

Where to watch the reveal
You can watch the livestream or keep up with the flow of news around Black Ops 4 at the following places:
Official Website
Twitch
Youtube

Event time
The event begins at 6 PM today.

Call of Duty Endowment Opens Nominations For Seal of Distinction Award https://www.godisageek.com/2018/05/call-duty-endowment-opens-nominations-seal-distinction-award/ Mon, 14 May 2018 22:00:38 +0000 http://www.godisageek.com/?p=206926 Helping veterans.

Today, the Call of Duty Endowment has opened nominations for its sixth annual Seal of Distinction award. This recognises both US and UK non-profits demonstrating “the highest levels of effectiveness, efficiency and integrity in placing veterans into high-quality jobs.”

Award winners receive a $30,000 unrestricted grant, plus the opportunity to apply for future funding. Past beneficiaries have been: Goodwill Southern California, NextOp and Walking With the Wounded. Applications are being accepted through June 1st.

“In its sixth year of operation, the program has awarded $27.6 million in grants. With an ambitious goal of placing 50,000 veterans into high-quality jobs by 2019, the program has placed more than 46,000 veterans into full-time jobs with an average 2017 starting salary of $58,000. As a result, the Endowment has helped veterans capture more than $2.3 billion in first year salaries and demonstrated the value of veterans in the civilian workplace to companies across the U.S and the U.K.”

The Call of Duty Endowment was founded by Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, with the noble cause of helping veterans return to work, finding high-quality careers. It’s a great cause and one that deserves support.

The Call of Duty Endowment has come to the UK after being US only.

Initially US only, there are two UK charities that have received a grant and potential funding via CODE. Forces Employment Charity and Walking With The Wounded have been given the Distinction Award. This is the standard of excellence in the Veteran’s employment sector. The winners get a 30k dollar unrestricted grant with a chance to get even more support. Dan Goldenberg, Executive Director of the COD Endowment commented:

“Meaningful employment is the single most important way to ensure that service members successfully transition back to civilian life. The Seal of Distinction recognises RFEA – The Forces Employment Charity and Walking With The Wounded as go-to organisations for veterans seeking high-quality jobs, and models for veteran-serving organisations to emulate.”

The charities are the RFEA which was founded in 1885 and has operations across the UK. Walking With The Wounded is newer and began in 2010 to provide veterans a way to get back into society while still being independent. Both these charities join a group of organizations that have been recognized by the Endownment for serving veterans well as they look for employment.

Call of Duty: World War II is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Endowmend funding partially comes from the COD Endownment (CODE) Bravery Pack which is available digitally on all platforms. It has in game items and all proceeds to Activision from the UK go to the Endowment programmes.

If there was a game deserving of a Christmas themed event it would be Call of Duty: WWII.

I jest of course, nothing about War screams Christmas (unless we’re talking about a particular Sainsbury’s Christmas advert, but that was World War I). What the event boils down to is a snow covered Winter Carentan map, the vanilla version of which is apparently a fan-favourite (who knew?).

The event also marks the return of what they call the ‘Gun Game’, the first time it’s appeared in this version of Call of Duty. In this players will get non-stop access to double XP playlists, a good way to level up your weapon proficiency. Also, new seasonal cosmetic items will be available in the new winterised Headquarters hub thanks to Captain Butcher who is visiting for the holiday season. New weapon variants will also be available to buy, or for free if you complete special orders distributed from Captain Howard.

The mode goes live from tomorrow, across all formats. Calvin reviewed  CoD: WWII and gave it a 9/10, any of you guys picking it up for Christmas?

Activision announces massive opening for Call of Duty: WWII.

It looks like Call of Duty is back to being the sales behemoth it was after a lull last year. Call of Duty: WWII takes in more than $500 million in opening weekend sales over three days. On PS4, it set a record for full game digital sales. It also sold twice as many units at launch compared to Infinite Warfare. WWII sees the highest total connected users on current gen and pc platforms for the franchise. Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision, commented on the milestone:

“We challenged our players to get their squads back together and they answered the call with the highest number of players we’ve ever seen on current gen consoles and PC. Call of Duty: WWII returns the franchise to its roots and the results are incredible, selling twice as many units in its opening weekend as last year and setting the day one record for full-game downloads on PlayStation 4. Our $500 million opening weekend was not only bigger than Thor: Ragnarok’s, it was bigger than the opening weekends of both Thor and Wonder Woman combined. And we’re committed to supporting the community with continuous improvements and new content.”

Call of Duty: WWII is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
