In our Pikmin 4 purple Pikmin guide we will teach you how to farm the mighty Purple Pikmin, which you’ll need in order to 100% the game.

As you progress through the story mode of Pikmin 4, you will naturally come across every type you need, from Red to the more secret ones later on, but the type that’s essential for 100% completion, is the mighty Purple lads and lasses. There are a few ways you can get lots and lots of them, but our Pikmin 4 purple Pikmin guide will net you ten new purples every few minutes, so read on to find out how. We’ve even included a handy video guide for you if you fancy, so subscribe to our YouTube Channel to never miss another video.

Pikmin 4 purple Pikmin guide: how many do I really need?

Chances are if you’re even searching for a Pikmin 4 purple Pikmin guide, then you know why you need at least 90, if not 100 of the little friends, and that’s to get the largest and heaviest treasure from the final location. Yes, to get the gold bar you’ll need 1000 strength, and the purple Pikmin have 100 each, so you can do the sums here, and work out that without Oatchie, you’d need 100 of them, or 90 and a maxed-out Oatchie who can add 100 to the strength meter.

Where to farm them?

Pikmin 4 purple Pikmin guide | How to farm purple Pikmin

You’ll need to be a little way into the game, but not that far, and have unlocked “Hero’s Hideaway” as a destination. Here, the easiest starting location is 2. Feasting Centre. From there head to Plunder Palace, which is a dungeon with 5 sublevels, and you need to ride a lift up after climbing up a few little objects.

Pikmin 4 purple Pikmin guide | How to farm purple Pikmin

Take any ten Pikmin you fancy, it doesn’t matter, but know they will be converting to purples, so don’t bring any critters you will miss. Hit start and button through any menus or animations, then immediately head under the toys past a giant breadbug, and up the ramp, bending left towards the first Pikmin flower.

Pikmin 4 purple Pikmin guide | How to farm purple Pikmin

Throw your first five Pikmin in, collect up your new five purples, and head to the lift. If you’re quick enough, on some cycles this can all be done without waiting for the lift at all.

Pikmin 4 purple Pikmin guide

Once up the lift, ignore any enemies and run diagonally across the table to the next purple flower. Hop down and throw five more in, and collect up your new purples.

Lastly, with your ten new friends in tow, jump off the chair and sprint with Oatchie to the exit. Skip all the scenes, and that’s it, you’ve got ten more purple Pikmin.

Next steps

All you have to do now is turn around, jump back in and repeat the steps above. It should take less than two minutes to get ten new purple friends, meaning you can get up to or over 100 in no time at all.

If you’re still struggling, check out our full video walkthrough, below.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is getting even bigger this month, as Nintendo is releasing wave 5 of the booster pack on July 12th. The fifth wave will add eight new (old) courses, and three more characters.

Coming to the pack, character wise, is Kamek (from Mario Kart Tour), Petey Piranha (Mario Kart Double Dash!!), and Wiggler (Mario Kart 7). It’s safe to say Petey Piranha is a fan favourite, as it even got an Amiibo a few years back.

Check out the newly released wave 5 booster pack trailer, and the official word on the new courses, below:

Take on the Cherry Cup and get ready for a star-studded sprint around Los Angeles Laps (Mario Kart Tour), sandy surprises through Sunset Wilds (Mario Kart: Super Circuit), watery wonders in Koopa Cape (Mario Kart Wii) and the cool runnings of Vancouver Velocity (Mario Kart Tour). And in the Feather Cup, enjoy two classic courses in Daisy Cruiser (Mario Kart: Double-Dash!!) and Moonview Highway (Mario Kart Wii), a historical tour with Athens Dash (Mario Kart Tour) and the brand-new course, Squeaky Clean Sprint. Each course can be played locally or online.

With wave 5, this brings the courses available in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe up to 88, and Nintendo says there are 8 more to come before the end of the year. The Booster Pack is actually free if you have Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, though it can also be purchased separately.

I scored MK8 Deluxe a full 10/10 back when it came out for Switch in April 2017, saying it “is a beautiful game that just works for all ages and abilities, this time it even includes smart steering to aid newer players. When we came time to pick our Game of the Year for 2014, I said I had to read my original review to remind myself why I hadn’t given it full marks. I wrote that “the battle mode is truly lazy”, and thus felt it wasn’t quite deserving of that ten out of ten. Now, three years on, Nintendo has listened, and acted accordingly. I’m a man of my word, folks”.

Nintendo has confirmed that version 1.2.0 of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been released, adding general updates and fixes. Technically released yesterday (on July 4th), you can manually update your copy of Tears of the Kingdom by hitting the “+” button on the home menu game icon and selecting “software update” then “via the internet”.

The list of general updates is a bit peculiar, as Nintendo says that “By starting the game from within certain articles released on a specific Switch News channel (accessed via the HOME Menu) players can receive a number of in-game items”, though adds that “Depending on the state of gameplay progression or the location in which the data is reopened, there may be cases in which the items cannot be received”.

Basically, this means that in the Switch News channel there will be certain stories you can select that will get you some in-game items. Don’t get too excited as this was also made available in Breathe of the Wild and wasn’t too dissimilar to using an Amiibo, whereby you’d get some food and basic items to make use of.

Here’s the list of additional fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where players could not progress beyond a certain point in the main quests “A Mystery in the Depths” and “Secret of the Ring Ruins”, the side adventures “Hateno Village Research Lab” and “Lurelin Village Restoration Project”, the shrine quest “Dyeing to Find It”, and the side quests “Village Attacked by Pirates”, “The Incomplete Stable”, and “Seeking the Pirate Hideout”. Downloading the update will allow players to proceed past that point
  • Fixed an issue preventing fairies from appearing under certain conditions when they originally should have appeared
  • Fixed an issue preventing the meals provided by Kiana of Lurelin Village from changing under certain conditions
  • Several issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is out now for Nintendo Switch.

The post The Medium Cloud Version is out on Nintendo Switch today appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Bloober Team has announced that The Medium Cloud Version arrives on Nintendo Switch today, at 6am PDT / 2pm BST, meaning Switch gamers can get in on a game that was said to only be viable via the latest technology.

Originally and Xbox Series S|X and PC exclusive, The Medium eventually hit PS5 and had new console-specific features, and now with the cloud version, it’s available on pretty much all modern consoles. For those not aware of the cloud versions on Switch, this is a streaming version of the game, meaning you’ll need a good internet connection to play it.

The Medium Cloud Version is launching with a 15% discount from today until July 6th, at an initial price of $49.99.

Piotr Babieno, Bloober Team CEO, said that “We have recently witnessed the rise of cloud gaming, and it is exciting to see remarkable games being released as Nintendo Cloud Versions. It’s an honour to be joining them with The Medium. We are delighted that players will now have the opportunity to enjoy the game on the Switch, anytime and anywhere”.

The Medium is an innovative and terrifying horror experience. The critically acclaimed title was developed and published by the Polish horror studio, Bloober Team. First launched in 2021, it’s a third-person psychological horror game that features dual-reality gameplay that allows players to navigate between real and alternative worlds to solve puzzles.

The game is set in the late ‘90s following Marianne, a psychic investigating the abandoned Hotel Niwa in search of answers about her past. She explores the physical world and the spirit world simultaneously, which lets players use the interactions between them to solve dual-reality puzzles, unlock new paths, and awaken memories of past events. The spirit world is a dark mirror reflection of our reality, and it has been modeled and designed under the inspiration of Polish dystopian surrealist, Zdzisław Beksiński’s paintings. The incredible visuals were enhanced by the original soundtrack co-composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski and Akira Yamaoka.

Chris White really enjoyed it on both Xbox and PS5, saying it “is without a doubt Bloober Team’s biggest game to date, and it is easily one of their best. The story is captivating as are its characters, and the uneasy journey you take through it feels much like if Stranger Things was set in the Alan Wake universe. It’s a gorgeous game complimented by a vivid soundtrack, and the gameplay only stumbles on a few occasions. The puzzles are inventive, harking back to a time when the only horrors you could play were ones involving zombies and foggy towns. It’s a great reason to jump on Xbox Game Pass, and a strong start to the new year of gaming”.

The Medium is available now on Xbox Series S|X, PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch via Cloud.

The post Playing Pikmin 4 just left me wanting to explore more of it | Hands-on preview appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

It is strange to think that Pikmin 4  is the first new title for the series in an entire decade. It is actually even more odd that I can remember reviewing the first Pikmin title back in the mists of time – something that made me feel my age quite significantly when sampling the giddy delights of the forthcoming sequel. But I was also heartened by the fact that Nintendo has absolutely gone to town to make sure that this is perhaps the ultimate version of the game to date. It is like the company acknowledged the slow sales of Pikmin 3 (despite the deluxe Switch edition), and decided to create something huge, loveable, and easy to pick up, with a learning curve that dials down some of the plate spinning anxiety while also being much more accessible to newcomers.

I was let loose in the opening section of the game, which is also going to represent pretty much what Nintendo will serve up in the forthcoming, highly generous playable demo. Unlike previous games, Olimar is not the main protagonist this go-around. In fact, on the finished game, you get to design your very own elfish avatar, and step into the guise of Rescue Corps newest recruit. Captain Olimar himself, then, has ended up crashing on a mysterious Earth-like world. In a failed effort to recover the series mainstay, the Corps have ended up crashing their rescue craft. Pikmin 4 tells the story of how, along with your ultra-cute bipedal dog-like pal and a bunch of willing anthropomorphic beansprouts, you are tasked with finding the Captain and retrieving your fellow rescue comrades.

Pikmin 4 screenshot

Straight away you sense the warm Nintendo magic, helped nicely by the familiar cute sound effects and the typically lush Honey I Shrunk The Kids-like visuals. The camera angle is slightly nearer the deck here, which works rather nicely and brings things closer to a third-person feel. You are drip-fed the various mechanics of the strategic puzzling, resource gathering gameplay at a rate that is pitched just about right to appeal to all levels of experience. This time your aiming reticule doesn’t just act as a means of flinging the titular alien plants, you can also switch to control Rescue Pup Oatchi – who has plenty of puzzle-cracking abilities to make your missions easier.

Like with the titular Pikmin, you can instruct him to attack enemies and retrieve resources, but he also has a chargeable dash that can smash through certain breakable obstacles, and you can ride on his back and use his leaping ability to scale new heights around the mysterious world. He can also track things by following a scent, and detect treasures using his expert olfactory skills.

Oatchi is adorable, fun to use, and adds so much to the game, including the ability to eventually level up his stats and abilities and teach him new tricks. He is easy to become attached to and I felt a genuine sense of peril when I inadvertently allowed my pupper to be both set ablaze and frozen all during the same gameplay session. There are also new varieties of Pikmin entering the fray to fall in love with/feel guilty about when they die. Ice Pikmin have a variety of uses including being able to solidify blocks of jelly for Oatchi to smash, and turning water hazards into a traversable lake of ice.

Pikmin 4 screenshot

There is a ticking time limit as day turns into night, which lends a nice structure to the main gameplay loop, and there are promised new-to-series night time shenanigans with the introduction of another hitherto unseen version of Pikmin – the Glow variety – who look pleasingly luminescent and serve to distract the more aggressive night-time enemies that you may encounter. As well as the overground, there are subterranean dungeon areas where the passage of time is slowed down to 1/6 of its normal speed for your exploratory pleasure.

The word “Dondori” is used frequently in Pikmin 4. It is a term pertaining to carrying out a variety of tasks with the utmost efficiency and economy, for the best overall results. It sums up the organisational skills needed to pull off being an ace Pikmin player, and is also used to name the excellent looking split screen battle mode which we didn’t get to play but saw in the tantalising trailer and presentation.

The time I spent with the game did not even touch the sides of what is eventually promised for Pikmin 4. The trailer reveals a plethora of diverse areas, enemies, treasures, and puzzles, which I left the preview aching to explore more of. It is a game that any newcomer could enjoy whether or not they have played the preceding games, and looks like a sure fire Switch hit when it drops in July. In the meantime, all three prior Olimar adventures are available on the eShop now, so there has never been a better time to practice herding some adorable space veggies around.

Pikmin 4 is coming to Nintendo Switch on July 21st.

House Flipper has just got even bigger, with Garden and Pets DLC packs for Nintendo Switch, costing $13.49 each, currently at 10% off.

Both packs have previously hit via the PC release of the game from the original developers Empyrean, and Frozen Way, but the Nintendo Switch versions have been ported by Ultimate Games S.A.

COO of Ultimate Games S.A., Rafał Jelonek, explained the DLC packs, saying: “House Flipper is one of the most popular simulators in recent years. Several million people have purchased it so far. In June 2020, we published the base game on Nintendo Switch, and now we’re publishing the two new DLCs. What’s important, the Garden and Pets DLCs are big expansions with brand-new mechanics and jobs, a whole bunch of new items, and other highlights”.

We’ve got trailers and official descriptions of both packs for you, below.

House Flipper: Garden DLC

In the Garden DLC, the player takes on the role of a gardener who transforms neglected gardens into charming venues. The gameplay involves cleaning and preparing plots of land to then create gardens based on a specific concept. Moreover, the developers introduced brand new mechanics that enhance the experiences found in the base game.

A total of nearly 20 new jobs and several new and uniquely styled homes await players in the expansion. To top it off, the Garden DLC offers over 600 unique items, including more than 250 different plant species.

House Flipper: Pets DLC

The main focus of the Pets DLC is on cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, parrots, and other pets. The goal is to make homes and their surroundings a nice place to live for both people and their pets.

The DLC includes a dozen new story jobs and brand new buildings, such as houses with huge terraces or ranch house-style attics. The Pets DLC offers over 700 new items as well, including furniture and accessories created with pets in mind.

House Flipper is out now for Switch and PC, the DLC is also available now.

Annapurna Interactive has announced that first-person puzzler Maquette is coming to Nintendo Switch on May 25th. Having originally launched in March 2021 for PC (Steam), PS4, and PlayStation 5, it stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Seth Gabel as “a couple guiding players through the life cycle of a loving relationship”.

To celebrate the announcement, there’s a new trailer along with the official description of the game, below:

Maquette takes place in a recursive world where players simultaneously experience the life cycle of a loving relationship through Kenzie and Michael. Players must navigate memories by exploring worlds-within-worlds and use creative thinking in order to solve each MC Escher-esque puzzle. Each chapter in this modern-day love story features unique interactive puzzles as the player journeys through worlds filled with stunning environments, eye-opening moments and an adventure of love, loss, and acceptance.

Chris White reviewed Maquette back in March of 2021, where he said “The stunning world Graceful Decay has built in Maquette is perpetually gorgeous and dream-like throughout its short time, never failing to blind you with its beauty. It’s a puzzler that pushes you to think outside the box, but no matter what difficulties you might encounter when trying to solve Maquette’s labyrinthine maze, you’re always taken aback by how stunning the colours and the surreal architecture blend to create such a succinct paradise. It’s ideas are executed relatively well throughout, and although there are limits to its interactivity, Maquette is a perfect example of how puzzlers are still relevant as we move into the next generation of gaming. Whilst moving objects around can at times be awkward due to them getting stuck inside the maquette, it never stopped me from enjoying what the game had to offer”, and gave it a 7.5/10 score.

Maquette is coming to Nintendo Switch on May 25th, but is out now for PC (Steam), PS4, and PS5.

Nintendo and Monolith Soft has revealed the release date along with a new trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed, the fourth and final DLC for the game.

It’ll be coming on April 26th, and is set before the events of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but will feature a cast that uses both new and familiar characters which Monolith Soft says will be “an original story scenario that connects all three instalments in the Xenoblade Chronicles series”. It will also include new mechanics for the battle systems, like “Unity Combo”, which is where two heroes can attack at the same time.

Check out the trailer, below:

On top of that, Nintendo also announced that the Pyra and Mythra amiibo double pack will be hitting stores on Friday, July 21st. Nintendo explained what the amiibo will do in the game, as follows:

By scanning the Pyra amiibo in Xenoblade Chronices 3, players can change the appearance of the sword for Noah’s Swordfighter class to match Pyra’s Aegis Sword. When scanning the Mythra amiibo in Xenoblade Chronices 3, the sword for Noah’s Swordfighter class will match Mythra’s Aegis Sword. The Aegis sword weapon skins can be used by all players meeting a certain requirement in the game. A software update for this will be released in future. Finally, Noah and Mio amiibo have been announced.

I loved the third game, and said that “despite any negatives I may have, is a complete triumph. It’s rich and engaging, deep yet accessible. It even tutorialises some of the facets of the series better than the titles that have come before it. A mammoth “tips” menu lets you refresh your memory should you get lost, but really getting lost is part of the experience. Remarkably, there’s still room to grow for the series, but really thanks to the combat tweaks and quality of life improvements, it’s tough to see how any RPG will better Monolith Software’s latest part of its opus this year”.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is out now for Nintendo Switch.

The official website for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has revealed a tidbit about the game we didn’t yet know: how it starts! So just to be totally clear, if you want to go into Tears of the Kingdom not knowing anything about the opening, and have missed out on the trailers Nintendo has released lately, then probably don’t read on further than this. Okay? Right…

So on the official site, it starts off by saying: “Set out for adventure in a transformed and expanded Hyrule. Find new ways to explore, create, and discover on an epic journey fuelled by your imagination”. And we knew that, but it’s interesting to see the words “transformed” and “expanded”, which makes it sound somehow even bigger than Breath of the Wild.

Scroll down, however, and you get the explanation of how the adventure starts (via Reddit), and what you’ll be doing right away. Here we go, last warning for spoilers:

Link begins his journey on one of the many mysterious floating islands that have suddenly appeared in the skies high above Hyrule. It’s there our hero will have to gain new abilities before returning to the surface world to begin his epic adventure.

The site goes on to explain that “The sky isn’t the only thing that’s changed in Hyrule. Familiar locations have been dramatically transformed, with new towns, dank caves, and mysterious gaping chasms springing up across the world—all waiting to be explored”, then once again reveals the new mechanics, and abilities, such as Ultrahand, Fuse, Ascend, and Recall. Presumably at least some of these will be learned in the sky, similar to how Breath of the Wild made you do a few Shrines before it let you out into the world.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is coming to Nintendo Switch on May 12th, 2023.

Nintendo has live streamed the final trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and it’s the last one before the release date.

The third and final trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is just shy of four minutes long, and shows a whole heap of gameplay, voice acting, and mechanical aspects that were previously shown in the Tears of the Kingdom Direct showcase. You can watch it below, but be warned that if you avoided the Direct for fear of spoilers, this third trailer does give away a lot of the newer mechanical aspects of the game.

In this sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ll decide your own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and on the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. Discover new destinations, dangers, sights and puzzles that will require your wits and resourcefulness to overcome. Can you harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom?

This all follows the announcement of the new Switch OLED hardware linked to the game, and it really is a superb trailer. I reviewed Breath of the Wild for launch way back in 2017, where I gave it top marks and said “I do not say this lightly: Breath of the Wild is an absolute masterpiece, and may well be the best The Legend of Zelda game ever made. Having grown up playing those first games as a child on a system I remember fondly, it feels extra special to be playing a new Zelda on a new console; that I can’t deny, and there are flaws (it’s not perfect), but otherwise, this is everything I wanted it to be and more. I won’t forget Breath of the Wild for a long time, because it’s a memorable, beautiful, stunner of a game.”.

It’s hard to know how this could top it, but we have less than a month to wait now, to find out,.

The post Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp is a faithful remake so far | Hands-on preview appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp has made me feel pretty old. While I’ve only played a portion of the first campaign so far, it felt like walking into your favourite pub full of confidence, only to find out it’s changed hands, been refurbished, and the landlord had been replaced by someone who doesn’t recognise your long-running tab, wants you to pay up immediately, and is going to set the bouncers on you while throwing your custom beer tankard with your name on it into a skip, laughing in your face. That is to say, then, I don’t quite remember Advance Wars being this hard.

The thing is, while Advance Wars has been away, there have been a lot of tactics games that have filled the void. Fire Emblem is probably the one most people will have gravitated towards, and where that series has offered multiple ways to beat the opponent commander (so to speak), Advance Wars often feels as though there’s a set way to win based on understanding each individual battle, the units you have to make use of, and victory conditions.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp is a faithful remake so far | Hands-on preview

Unit placement is key, and everything here has a reason and use-case, with every turn feeling vitally important. From movement to target range (and understand that the AI isn’t bad, even on casual difficulty, and will often ensure it never leaves a tank, for example, within artillery range), and fuel to territory control, you might be forgiven for looking at the art style and thinking this is a game aimed at a younger audience, but that’s just not the case, so far.

The AI will wipe the floor with you on regular difficulty, and when you’re learning, there’s a chance that might make you feel a bit hard done by. For example, once you get to choose a commanding officer (CO) to use, you’ll do so based on the mission type, and what their CO Power is. These powers are built up over time (and damage done/success on the battlefield), and can change the tide of battle. But again, within the first few hours, you’re going to feel like the enemy CO almost always has a better power than all of yours.

Take Andy, the first of your COs. His power will repair your units by 2 (they have 10, total) and enhance their attacking capabilities for that turn. He feels the most balanced to begin with, as there are few trade-offs for picking him. The rest have passive changes which make them harder to get to grips with. Max can do more damage with units up close. “Great”, you might think, but he loses mobility for that. Sami can capture buildings more quickly, only she can’t; not really. To capture a building you must knock its power down from 20, and while everyone else can do 10 per turn, she does 15, which still requires two turns like everyone else. To make the most of Sami you need to ensure your infantry is healthy and not damaged, and that’s not always easy.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp is a faithful remake so far | Hands-on preview

On the other hand, Blue Moon’s Olaf can change Summer to Winter, messing up your plans, and Grit can extend his range, while Green Earth’s Eagle can use his CO Power to take a second turn with all units (albeit at a reduced damage output). Now look, before hardcore fans start to shout at me, yes I know it’s supposed to be hard, but for newcomers, of which I’d wager there might be quite a few, the difficulty is going to be a surprise.

And it might sound like that’s gotten me down a bit, but that’s not the case at all: it’s all just part of the process. What it means is that this is a faithful “re-boot”, and that, whether you like the art style or not (I do, but most people seem against it), you aren’t getting a dumbed down version of these classic games. Fans might plough through the early stages, but I’d wager unless people have been replaying the games more recently, they will have to scratch their heads a bit and get the thinking caps on.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp is a faithful remake so far | Hands-on preview

That said, there are already difficulty spikes that go both ways. It’s tricky to know if, at this stage, it’s just that I’m happier playing certain mission types or not. I seem to struggle with warfare when there’s no bases available to create new units, but when it comes to air and sea support, I tend to dominate no matter the CO I pick. The yellow section of the map, for example, absolutely annihilated me over and over with the first mission, but when I beat it (easily eventually) I wasn’t too sure what tactic I’d changed in order to do so. Then, the following missions I beat the first time, multiple times on the trot. It certainly seems like because I could build units I had an easier time, but time with the rest of the first game’s campaign will tell as to whether this is the case or not.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp, so far, seems to scratch an itch I didn’t know I had. Failure isn’t met with frustration, instead it’s greeted with a smile, and a hurried restarting of a battle with a want to do better. I may still be relatively early on in the campaign, but despite having played these games over twenty years ago, they feel fresh again. The cartoon-aesthetic feels right for the characters (mostly), and some of the music absolutely slaps. If you go in expecting to be a master because of the tactics-titles you’ve played recently, you’re going to get your ass handed back to you. Like when it first released, it seems Advance Wars is a game I have needed to retrain my brain for, learning the deep mechanics, and understanding the complexity of the amount of options on the table, and I can’t wait to dig deeper to see more of what it has to offer.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp is coming to Nintendo Switch on April 21st, 2023.

A new Nintendo Switch OLED model is coming ahead of the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and peripherals, too.

The new model will come with the usual 7-inch screen, wider stand, dock with a wired LAN point, and 64GB of internal storage (boo!), so it’s basically the original OLED but with Tears of the Kingdom-themed art on it. It doesn’t look quite as gorgeous as the Animal Crossing-themed one, which has set the bar high, but it’s pretty nice, right?

The console will release on April 28th, ahead of the game’s May 12th release date, but there’s also some accessories coming, too. It’s also worth noting the new OLED does not coming with a copy of the game itself.

Tears of the Kingdom themed pro controller

The pro controller (above) will also be released on April 28th, as will the Nintendo Switch carrying case, seen below.

Interestingly, along with all this information, we also got the official word on the description of the game, below:

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players decide their own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. The journey is theirs to create in this sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, an epic adventure across the land and skies of Hyrule. In a world fuelled by imagination, players need to harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom.

The newly released Nintendo Direct on the game showed off new powers, enemies, locations, and more. There’s a new power called “Fuse” which lets you craft weapons by combining other items. Nintendo said that experimenting with “Fuse” is recommended. It’s not the same world as in Breath of the Wild, and Aonuma said that “if we talk about all the changes today, we’d run out of time”. There are now “sky islands”, and the producer explained exactly how you get up there. Something falls from the sky with a glowing green-blue tinge to it. Link finds the item, and uses one of Link’s new abilities to “rewind” time and get up to the new sky island. The power is called “recall”.

As promised Nintendo has aired its The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Direct showcase, and the video is below to prep you for the oncoming May release date.

There’s also a new power called “Fuse” which lets you craft weapons by combining other items. New enemies are shown, and… well, just watch the video, why don’t you? You know you want to! Nintendo said that experimenting with “Fuse” is recommended. Even this brief glimpse of the game shows that a lot of feedback has been listened to, from the previous game.

Eiji Aonuma, of course, was producer on a plethora of The Legend of Zelda titles, including Skyward Sword HD, Link’s Awakening, and of course Breath of the Wild

It feels like more than five years since Breath of the Wild came out, somehow. I gave the game a top marks 10/10 back in March 2017, saying “Breath of the Wild is an absolute masterpiece, and may well be the best The Legend of Zelda game ever made. Metroid Prime Remastered was shadow dropped at the February 8th, 2023 Nintendo Direct. Imagine that? So we grabbed it, captured some gameplay and decided “No, let’s not talk over this”, and just let the game speak for itself.

With multiple control methods (and invertible look, thankfully) Metroid Prime Remastered looks like it’s going to capture a whole new audience, and please fans of the original 2002 classic. I was a little worried at first, as I couldn’t find the option to invert controls for the look stick, and it wouldn’t be unheard of for a remaster to do that, but it is in there.

If you want, you can use a hybrid method, or use motion controls, while the original GameCube controls are also an option. Visually, as you can see from the video above, it looks pretty good for a “remaster”. I’m early days into the game but the Metroid Prime Remastered fire effects looked particularly impressive based on the opening, alone.

While it wasn’t the Metroid Prime 4 news that fans would have perhaps preferred, this finally puts to bed the fact that Metroid Prime Remastered did exist and was ready to go all along. Prime 4 might be a bit further off, however, as the development was restarted as Nintendo announced Retro Studios was developing it back in January 2019. Given the length of development for triple-A games these days, it’s not really a shock that it hasn’t been shown again since.

The latest game in the Metroid series is Metroid Dread, which we scored 9/10 saying “Metroid Dread is nearly the perfect return for Samus, and only some difficulty spikes rain on the parade. This is a tight, responsive 2D Metroid experience that constantly impresses and surprises in equal measure and is the perfect way to launch the new Switch model”.

Metroid Prime Remastered is out now, priced £34.99 for Nintendo Switch.

Session: Skate Sim coming to Nintendo Switch in March https://www.godisageek.com/2023/02/session-skate-sim-coming-to-nintendo-switch-in-march/ Wed, 08 Feb 2023 13:15:38 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=273472 Boarding on the go

The post Session: Skate Sim coming to Nintendo Switch in March appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Crea-ture and NACON have today announced that Session: Skate Sim will be arriving on Nintendo Switch on March 9 in North America, along with additional content across all platforms. Elsewhere, the Switch version will arrive March 16, and on top of that, players on all platforms will be getting a new pro skater, a new map, new missions, and new equippable items.

Players can now pre-order Session: Skate Sim on Nintendo Switch and will receive the ‘Brandalised pack’ which features exclusive deck and clothing designs. The developers have put in work to adapt the controls for the platform, putting focus on the triggers for turning in an effort to “provide the optimal skateboarding experience.” The early stages of the game have already been improved through patches, allowing an easier introduction into learning the complexities of its skateboarding, all of which will be available when the Switch version launches.

We had the following to say about Session: Skate Sim when it launched in September of last year:

“Locations in New York, Philadelphia, and San Francisco make up up the environments of Session: Skate Sim. It’s cool being free to go wherever you want, wondering if you could pull off a trick or grind over or on an obstacle. You might prefer a more linear experience, but that’s not what this game is about. At it’s heart is freedom. Freedom to skate and to learn; to express yourself on a board, and find joy in the nuances of the controls while delving into the culture of boarding in the mid 90s. You can earn money through missions to buy new clothing, skateboard parts and designs, and even ramps and lips to place wherever you want.

The replay function allows you to recreate the familiar skate videos of the 90s, fisheye camera and all. I didn’t spend a ton of time with this as I was truly terrible for a long time, but if you want to keep a record of some of your prouder moments, it’s a great way to do so. Session: Skate Sim is a remarkable game in how realistic it recreates the skateboarding lifestyle and the skating itself. The controls are difficult to learn, and many will fall off in the early stages, but if you’re persistent, it’s well worth sticking with. Although there’s little hand-holding, practice and determination really does provide tons of satisfaction.”

The post Life is Strange 2 coming to Nintendo Switch appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Square Enix has today announced that Life is Strange 2 is coming to Nintendo Switch on February 2, and is now available to pre-order via the Nintendo eShop.

If you never played it when it originally released, the synopsis reads as follows:

Life is Strange 2 is a narrative-adventure in which your decisions influence both the game’s story and characters. You play as sixteen-year-old Sean Diaz, a normal kid growing up in the suburbs of Seattle. After your younger brother Daniel’s telekinetic powers are unleashed by a traumatic incident, you are forced to abandon your home and flee from the police. As a big brother, you are solely responsible for not only Daniel’s safety, shelter, and wellbeing – but also how he grows to harness his power as you travel across the USA in an attempt to cross the border into Mexico.

It’s been some time since Life is Strange 2 released in episodic fashion back in 2018 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but in our review of the first episode, we said, “I think most of us thought that season two of Life is Strange would focus on Max again, but instead we get the Diaz brothers and I couldn’t be happier. Max’s story had been told and now we’re moving on to pastures new. This is a story about an older brother’s love for his younger sibling despite all that sibling rivalry bullshit, and how life can be hard for hard working people of immigrant descent in a harsh society. One episode in and I don’t miss Max and Chloe at all. Following Sean and Daniel’s story is already gripping, happy and saddening, and we’re only just getting started. No, there’s isn’t too much in the way of game here, but it’s only the beginning and I’m really looking forward to where the Diaz boy’s journey takes us. That is, if my heart can take it.”

Fire Emblem Engage | How to level past 20 https://www.godisageek.com/2023/01/fire-emblem-engage-how-to-level-past-20/ Fri, 20 Jan 2023 00:01:52 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=272262 An old idea, but now it's confusing.

The post Fire Emblem Engage | How to level past 20 appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Fire Emblem Engage level 20 is one of the strangest things about the latest (and greatest) title from Intelligent Systems. Whereas most Fire Emblem titles will have three phases of classes to progress through, Engage bucks the trend simply having basic and advanced classes.

This means that getting your character to the maximum stats is a bit strange and complicated. There’s a stage of the game where you will almost certainly max out a character and be confused. Fire Emblem Engage level 20 isn’t the end, though, it’s the beginning: it just is quite poor at telling you that.

Fire Emblem Engage level 20: what do I do?

Fire Emblem Engage level 20: what do I do?

When you hit level 20 for the second time at your chosen class, you’d be forgiven for being confused. It happened to us well before the end-game even approached. The thing is, the only way of knowing what to do is hidden in an item description. You may have seen the “second seals” and not used them, but they are the secret to breaking out of Fire Emblem Engage level 20. They are also available infinitely from the shop on The Somniel.

What these do is, essentially, reset your level to 1. So once you hit level 20 in your chosen advanced class, you could (of course) change to another and gain proficiency, while lowering your stats to “start over”. However, if you love your hero just as they are, but don’t want to waste a slot on your team because you’re gaining 0 XP as you’re at max, take a trip to the menus.

Fire Emblem Engage level 20

Here, you can go to “Change Class” and select the class you already are. Once done, you can use a second seal to go back to level 1, while retaining your stats and can then level all the way up to 20 again, before repeating this process. This way you can get your weaker character up to a decent health stat, and make your stronger ones absolute tanks.

It’s a shame to lose the “Beginner > Intermediate > Advanced” routine from the other games, but we think it’s due to the range of classes on offer, and the fact Emblems make heroes able to use skills they otherwise wouldn’t.

Thanks to the titular Engage mechanic, Intelligent Systems’ new game is deeper than ever, but these are the Fire Emblem Engage best skills you can add to your characters.

In case you didn’t know, when you hit bond level five with any emblem hero / ring, you will unlock the ability to inherit skills from that emblem hero. What this means is that rather than having to keep the ring equipped, you can unlock them to add to three of your character’s skill slots, and then give the ring to someone else.

Fire Emblem Engage best skills: how do I do this?

You’ll need SP, and lots of them. Go to the ring hall and you can use the inherit skill option. If this hasn’t appeared for you yet, you just need to play more of the story chapters to unlock it.

Fire Emblem Engage | Best skills to inherit

Here you can unlock skills per character, and per engage emblem. They range from 100 to 1000, and even 2000 SP, which will take a long time to unlock, so don’t feel the need to rush towards any particular goal. They also stack, so if you unlock a +5 speed, you don’t need the +2 and +1 unlocks as well. Save up for the expensive ones!

What skills are best to inherit?

Fire Emblem Engage best skills are difficult to work out on your own, especially without the knowledge of what’s coming later. So here’s the ones we think you should be targeting, and which emblem ring they’re a part of. You can equip these whenever you need to, but the variety means you have something for every type of battle.

One of the things people are often worried about these days is downloading large files, so the Fire Emblem Engage download size is definitely something you’ll want to know.

Engage is the sixteenth entry into the main series, and in some ways it’s one of the largest games in the franchise too. With a massive cast of characters, gorgeous visuals, and a tremendous amount of voice work, it’s fair to say people may be concerned that it might be a bit of a monster download.

Fire Emblem Engage download size

Fire Emblem Engage

So just how big is the Fire Emblem Engage download size? Well, you’re going to need 16GB of storage free to grab this one, making it one of the larger Nintendo Switch games out there at the moment.

That said, for a Fire Emblem game in the modern era, the Fire Emblem Engage download size isn’t that big, with Fire Emblem: Three Houses clocking in at 12GB as well for the digital version. The spinoff musou title Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is 13GB as well, so while the 16GB of Engage is the biggest to date, it’s not that much bigger than expected.

How does this compare to other Switch games?

Regardless, what you’re getting here is half the size of a Mortal Kombat 11 or NBA 2K21, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, or even LA Noire, so it’s not too bad. Just make sure you know how fast your internet speed is so you can grab the 16GB and not miss a second of playtime.

So while it’s not as tiny as some of the Mario games Nintendo produces, it’s not nearly as big as some of the third party titles, either.

Fire Emblem Engage | 6 important tips to remember

We loved Fire Emblem Engage, and said “Fire Emblem Engage is a masterpiece of tactical gameplay design. Varied enemies, classes, combat systems, and more make it feel like the best the genre has to offer. An interesting story runs through everything, and there’s even multiplayer options to keep you coming back, should you somehow tire of the exquisite combat. With options to play how you want, at whatever speed you desire, and a gorgeous, vibrantly colourful aesthetic, Intelligent Systems is once again showing it is top of the class and, frankly, I really don’t know where they go next: it’s just that good.” in our review.

Fire Emblem Engage engage pairings | Best Emblems to pair with characters https://www.godisageek.com/2023/01/fire-emblem-engage-engage-pairings-best-emblems-to-pair-with-characters/ Fri, 20 Jan 2023 00:01:34 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=272273 So many people.

The post Fire Emblem Engage engage pairings | Best Emblems to pair with characters appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

With such a massive list of characters, Fire Emblem Engage emblem pairings can prove difficult to work out, so we’ve made this list to help you. Instead of trying every emblem and ring with every hero on offer (it’s a huge cast of characters, after all), we decided to spend hours testing things out.

In our Fire Emblem Engage emblem pairings guide, we’ll try to give you the best idea of who to use, and even an alternative suggestion, just in case you don’t quite like the pairing yourself.

It’s worth noting that some of the better pairings do unlock later in the game, so unless you want some things spoiled, we’d recommend you proceed with caution. Even some playable characters might be spoilers, so again: consider this fair warning. We’d recommend being at chapter 11-12 at least before diving too deeply into this guide.

Fire Emblem Engage emblem pairings: Marth

Fire Emblem Engage | How big is the download size

As you start out, Marth is paired with Alear, and to be honest, this is a great shout by the game. Marth is very quick and pairs his skills nicely with the Divine Dragon. Any strength based character will do well with Marth, but we’d really recommend using him with Alear permanently, and instead, getting Alear’s bond levels up with others to inherit skills.

Celica

With her Warp Ragnarok ability, you want to pair Celica with a character that is both strong and mobile, which is why we think that Ivy is the best choice. She has strong spells from the moment you can use her, can be custom built into a tanking healer-cum-damage dealing mage, and she can use Warp Ragnarok to get far away and deal major damage, and survive 2-3 attacks, often coming out on top. Add to that the fact she can cast twice for half damage with another Celica skill, and it’s a done deal.

Sigurd

While you will likely start out having Alfred as your main “Sigurd” bearer, you will simply unlock better characters as you progress through the story. Ultimately we’d recommend pairing Sigurd with Chloe or Amber, at least for a while. We eventually actually paired Sigurd with Veyle to buff her physical aspects and make her more viable, and since she has unique spells, you’ll want her on the field.

Fire Emblem Engage emblem pairings: Leif

Fire Emblem Engage emblem pairings

We recommend pairing Leif with Framme, simply because she will end up a battle mage for you, and often that means you’ll position here near opponents you have a clear advantage over. This means “Arms Shield” will help you, while Adaptable and Quadruple hit just make her a more rounded hero overall.

Roy

Goldmary is a cracking choice for Roy thanks to the fact his “Advance” skill lets you close the gap on enemies you can’t quite reach. Blazing Lion, on the other hand, as a skill, lets you attack foes who are a short distance away, making Goldmary more adept in more combat encounters.

Lyn

Fire Emblem Engage emblem pairings - Lyn

There are two schools of thought with Lyn: one is to keep the bow-strong character with the likes of Alcryst, and to begin with, this is a great shout. However, you could also pair Lyn with a flying hero like Ivy or Chloe because it gives them a great defence against other fliers, or lets them use her special ability to get rid of bow wielders when in gangs. We’d suggest getting a feel for Lyn, but we ended up using her with Chloe the most.

Eirika

One of the trickier Emblems to manage, Merrin is a great pick for her. As a hero who is malleable and can do a lot of things, including damage, fast movement, and poison, the fact you can switch between Lunar Brace and Solar Brace makes Merrin that bit more valuable and gives more variety to battles. While Merrin can be weak, being clever with Eirika means you can be healing after attacking as well.

Ike

When it comes to Ike, Diamont is your boy. He has great starting stats, and Diamont’s ability helps him tank through multiple enemies at once. We barely changed Diamont and Ike’s pairing at all, so strong is that bond both in game, and theoretically. That said, he can make Kagetsu a fearsome warrior as well, so if you’re final stages and looking to boost another character, switch Ike over to Kagetsu.

Fire Emblem Engage emblem pairings: Micaiah

Fire Emblem Engage emblem pairings

Whichever character you’ve chosen as your main healer is best with Micaiah, though we’d recommend a flyer. Hortensia worked best for us, combined with other healing spells that means she’s mobile, and as long as you have a secondary healer, using the sacrifice skill will instantly recover everyone’s health and make these two a great pairing.

Lucina

A great pairing for Lucina is Diamant, he’s already a great support character, but adding Lucina just makes him basically a berseker who gets involved in everything as a backup fighter. Bonded Shield means you can protect allies from first attacks, and all-for-one is a superb ability to get everyone hitting the same enemy and finishing them off.

Corrin

While you get him fairly late in comparison to some characters, Pandreo is a superb pairing for Corrin. He has a type bonus for his Dragon Vein special effect, can heal when you’re waiting, prevents damage, and general makes him a super powerful mage. Until you get Pandreo, pair Corrin with a magic user for the same reasons.

Fire Emblem Engage emblem pairings: Byleth

Fire Emblem Engage emblem pairings

Byleth is a good emblem ring to have for any supporting character. While Seadall is where he’ll start, offering the chance to give heroes extra moves after they’ve taken a turn, we actually found a fully maxed our Alcryst was also a great character to have paired with Byleth. Alear isn’t a bad shout either, and since you won’t always be able to use Marth, Byleth is a good choice for Alear while that’s the case.

How long to beat Fire Emblem Engage https://www.godisageek.com/2023/01/how-long-to-beat-fire-emblem-engage/ Fri, 20 Jan 2023 00:01:12 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=272267 Put aside the time.

The post How long to beat Fire Emblem Engage appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

As one of the biggest games of the start of 2023, people will want to know how long it takes to beat Fire Emblem Engage. There’s plenty of time to spend with the game, and it’s the tentpole Nintendo Switch exclusive for a while, but some of the Fire Emblem series have been absolute monsters when it comes to length.

For example, Fire Emblem: Three Houses had three campaigns, technically. You could play through the massive story and then replay choosing a different house, and that’d give you a different angle on the tale told. But Fire Emblem Engage handles things differently, and is more akin to the previous titles, where you can pick a male or female protagonist (Alear) and the only thing that changes is the voice acting.

Fire Emblem Engage: how long to beat

If you are playing on regular difficulty and on “casual” mode, which means you won’t lose characters who die on the battlefield, you can expect to spend around 40 hours in the world of Engage across 26 main chapters, and multiple optional battles.

Fire Emblem Engage preview

There are, however, many variables that can change things very quickly. For example, each of the emblems has a paralogue mission which allows you to gain “Max Bond” with them, and this is a whole mission, so you could (in theory) ignore all of these and rush through, but there are other factors which can increase or decrease your time to above or below 40 hours.

What are the factors that determine how long it takes me?

The biggest variant in terms of how long to beat Fire Emblem Engage is your patience. If you are skipping animations and engage moments from the start, you will speed through the game much quicker. However, if you wait until later on, and you’ve seen all the characters you can get in your party, you will be nearer 40 hours.

Fire Emblem Engage is shaping up to be the best one yet | Hands-on preview

Also, you can engage (heh) in as much of the side content, relationship building, or bonding as you want. So you shouldn’t feel too left out, though we’d (of course) recommend that how long to beat Fire Emblem Engage takes as long as you feel comfortable with. If you wanted, you could easily add another 10-20 hours onto our completion time.

The post Fire Emblem Engage | 6 important tips to remember appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Whether you’re a newcomer to the series, or just need some help, we’ve put together some Fire Emblem Engage tips to make sure you’re not losing heroes left right and centre.

As one of the biggest entries in the series, Fire Emblem Engage has a lot to take in. There are new mechanics on top of the old weapon triangle system, then there’s things like bonding, animals, wyvern riding, and just so much to do, so we thought we’d put together some Fire Emblem Engage tips that are worth keeping in your mind’s eye when playing. Basically, there’s so much to do, you might forget certain things, and with our list, you will always be maximising your time, and your characters.

Go to the arena everyday for free XP

Once you unlock The Somnial early on, you will also unlock activities you can take part in at what is your home hub. One of the biggest and best Fire Emblem Engage tips we can give you is to always go to the arena. This is an area where, each day, you can train three times for free, and also do some engage training.

Fire Emblem Engage: the arena

Essentially, this lets you pick a character to train, who will do a mock battle with another hero, and whether they win or lose, they’ll gain some form of XP. Yes, that’s right, free XP. Need to get a character just over the edge to level up? Arena! Need to slowly level a character without risking them in battle? Arena, every day! Lastly, the arena lets you spend Bond Fragments (currency gained all the time) to immediately advance a bond with an Emblem. So if you want to unlock some inherited skills and move a ring to someone else? You guessed it: ARENA!

Take time learning the bond system and how to inherit skills

The bond system and skill inheritance systems are complex at first. It can feel like a foreign language is being spoken, but basically, you’ll need to take time to learn how this all works and get mix/maxing. Every Emblem Ring will unlock “skill inheritance” at bond level 5, so engage with them all the time and use them in every single battle.

Fire Emblem Engage - Inherit Skills

Once you’ve done this, you can continue to unlock more skills by using them more (or training in the arena), or you can spend Bond Fragments in the Ring Hall to permanently add skills to their loadout, and thus move the ring onto someone else to do the same. This way you can build characters and their stats out to your desire.

Fire Emblem Engage tips: Don’t rush to the advanced classes

As in all Fire Emblem titles, a character will start out a certain class, and you’ll eventually use some form of “Seal” to change them to your preferred style. However, every single class (bar one, but it’s a spoiler so we won’t mention that here) can only get to level 20. Once you hit level 20, all you’re doing is gaining Fragments and Bond levels, but you won’t upgrade your stats.

Fire Emblem Engage

With that in mind, unless you are seriously struggling with a particular character’s class, get to level 20, then use the advanced seal to unlock the next one. There’s just no need to rush to an advanced class unless you particularly want a new flier, or something.

Never forget the weapon triangle

Never forget the weapon triangle, or alternatively, “don’t put a flying hero in range of an archer”. Fans will know this, but the thing about Fire Emblem Engage is that it has all the information you need per battle on the screen at once. It doesn’t really matter what level you are, if you stick your flying character near an enemy archer, they will decimate, and likely one-shot kill you.

Fire Emblem Engage

The weapon triangle is: Sword breaks Axe, Axe breaks Lance, Lance breaks Sword. However, the melee class (Fists) also breaks all the ranged classes as well. If you ever forget it during a battle, make sure nobody is selected and hit start, and it’ll appear in the bottom right of the screen. We’d recommend having a balanced party so you can take on all enemies.

Fire Emblem Engage tips: use the time crystal

Whether you’re playing on hardcore (permadeath) or casual, the time crystal is a useful tool. It’s far too easy to misplace a beloved character and have them vanish forever. But what’s worse is even on casual mode when you lose a character from a fight in the first turn through careless placement. In this situation, don’t be too proud, just rewind and have a do-over: that’s what it’s there for.

Explore every area after a battle

Fire Emblem Engage visuals

After each battle you get a moment of peace to talk to your friends and check out the battlefield. There are always resources to find here, so make sure you use the RT (right trigger) to expand the map and look for the shining gold beacons. These will range from ingredients to resources like iron and silver, which are vital to upgrading weapons. You don’t have to speak to everyone to get their bond fragments, either, and once you’ve found the gold resources, you can leave (via an exit or the menu) and you’ll just get any fragments you missed for free.

As with most Nintendo first-party titles, in Fire Emblem Engage Amiibo give you bonusses and items depending on which ones you use, but it’s also not entirely clear what works and doesn’t, or how you even unlock the opportunity to use Fire Emblem Engage Amiibo. With our handy guide, we’ll talk you through where to go, and what to use, and what rewards you can get.

Fire Emblem Engage Amiibo: where to use them?

You’ll need to be a few chapters into the game to be able to use Amiibo at all, and have unlocked The Somniel, a kind of home-base for Alear and his companions. Going towards the fishing area, continue past here and find the “Amiibo Gazebo”, which is a terrific name for the place to use your Nintendo figurines.

Fire Emblem Engage Amiibo | What they do and how to use them

Once you get here, you can access the ability to tap an Amiibo to your controller, and it’ll unlock your rewards. Just as a little helper, the icon on the map looks a bit like a chess piece!

What rewards are available?

If you use a Fire Emblem-based Amiibo, you’ll unlock a “Fashion ticket” and a “Music ticket”. You can do five per day, but you can’t use the same Amiibo over and over.

Fire Emblem Engage Amiibo | What they do and how to use them

If you choose to use any other Amiibo, such as a Street Fighter or Kirby one, you’ll unlock random items like tomatoes, or speed tonics, luck tonics, etc. So even if you don’t have any Fire Emblem Amiibo it’s still worth popping by to get some freebies. Considering you spent money on the Amiibo in the first place, why not?

What are the costume and music tickets?

Fire Emblem Engage Amiibo | What they do and how to use them

Once you’ve used a Fire Emblem Amiibo, you’ll gain these items and then from the Amiibo Gazebo you can select “outfits” or “songs” and use your tickets to unlock things. These will allow you to customise Alear or another hero to wear clothes in the style of one of the Emblem characters that are part of Fire Emblem Engage. Music wise there are theme songs, and all sorts to unlock as well.

If you are still confused, we’ve put together a short video that shows the whole process in action, below.

Not only is Remnant: From The Ashes a well-received Soulslike with a sequel announced, but it’s also now been announced by THQ Nordic that it’s coming to Nintendo Switch in both digital and physical forms.

The game allows for co-op, and you can check out the Switch announcement trailer below, which shows footage captured from the console itself. It isn’t clear if Gunfire Games and THQ Nordic will be including the DLC (such as Subject 2923 or Swamps of Corsus) yet, but have reached out to the publisher to check, and will update our story if we hear back.

Humanity is struggling to survive, but they possess the technology to open portals to other realms and alternate realities. Are you brave enough to travel through these portals to uncover the mystery and take back what’s yours?

Explore dynamically-generated worlds that change each time you play through them. Each of the game’s four unique worlds is filled with monstrous denizens and environments that will provide fresh challenges with each playthrough. Adapt and explore – or die trying. The hostile environments will greet you with tough-as-nails enemies and epic bosses. Slay the monsters, earn experience, grab the loot and upgrade materials to prepare and approach each encounter in dozens of unique ways.

We don’t have an exact release date yet, but Remnant: From the Ashes is coming “soon” to Nintendo Switch, and is out now for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

We reviewed the game way back in 2019, scoring it a 9/10 and saying that it “has enormous depth, and a story that can still be followed without delving into the lore. It’s a game with a great core loop that will keep you coming back for more, which is especially important in a game that requires multiple playthroughs to see everything it has to offer. If indeed you ever do see it all. Most importantly, Remnant: From the Ashes is just a damn good action RPG”.

The post Fire Emblem Engage is shaping up to be the best one yet | Hands-on preview appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Booting up Fire Emblem Engage for the first time, I was a little apprehensive. After thoroughly enjoying Three Houses and indeed, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, the lines between the two genres felt like they could be about to blur. But within minutes my fears slid away, because Engage is a Fire Emblem game through and through, and in many ways, feels a bit like a greatest hits.

The “Engage” subtitle plays more of a role than the usual Fire Emblem title that underpins the story (Awakening, Three Houses, etc). Here, it’s both deep rooted within the story, but also the newest and most interesting mechanic. The story of Engage is played out by a new cast of characters, but the “greatest hits” aspect comes in the form of using “Emblem Rings” to summon in Emblem characters from the past. Alear, the male or female (your choice) protagonist of Engage can summon these Engage characters, and once that’s done, they can share the ring with a fellow party member who can bond, and engage with them as well.

Fire Emblem Engage preview

The only one I’ll mention for now is the first of these Emblem Rings, which summons Marth to your side. The idea here is that Marth enhances your capabilities with passive and active buffs, but also special moves relating to his character. You can probably already imagine the depth this sort of thing offers, and the heroes from past games that aren’t just sword-based that could change battles in your favour. Initially once “engaged” you can stay that way for three turns, so there is no urgency to use the special move, but it is a tactical decision, though you can replenish your Engage meter by landing on specially designated slots on the maps, and thus re-engage for another go around.

But that’s really just the start of things. As you make use of your engaged hero, you grow with a bond level. Each level will add a new buff, whether it’s +2 strength, or a passive ability, and after level 5 you can inherit these skills. This means that, should you choose to, you can go and use some of the in-game currency to add Marth’s bond skills to Alear, while moving the actual ring to another Engage character, and start building up their bond, and thus, their skills as well. It’s complex to explain but easy in practice, and adds yet another layer to the tactical combat on offer throughout what I’ve played so far. What it means in practice is that there is seemingly an endless wealth of stats to play around with based on how you mix and match your party, but also your Emblem Rings.

Fire Emblem Engage battle

Of course there’s a whole “RPG” element akin to Three Houses present here, but I’m pleased to say that from what I’ve played so far, it’s quite streamlined. In fact, that’s something that can be said of the entirety of my time with Fire Emblem Engage so far. Whereas pretenders to the throne have copied the tactics-based gameplay before, with all the animations of battle, and tried to improve it, often they include x2 speed up options, and more. Engage doesn’t need to (so far) because everything is snappy and fast.

For instance, when you action an attack, the camera zooms from the top down perspective directly into the action, and back out again when complete. But if you do want to speed it up, tap the B button and the animation will be skipped and you’re back to the tactics screen. Likewise, hit “Start” on the enemy turn and it can skip the entire turn, getting you back to the action. I wouldn’t recommend this aside skirmishes or optional battles, but it’s always a good option to have. Of course, if you want to, it’s an option to automatically skip these animations entirely, and make it just that top down tactics game, but I suspect people won’t do that, because the game looks so good.

Fire Emblem Engage visuals

Elsewhere, all the information you need is on the same screen now. In a battle you can see your stats, and nothing is buried beneath reams of menus. Accessibility seems at the forefront for Intelligent Systems with Engage, and once again this is why it feels like a combination of everything good the series has done beforehand, at least so far. The combat is so tight and it’s as glorious as ever. Getting a crit still amounts to one of the best feelings in a game I’ve ever had, but everything feels honed to perfection. There are few games that channel that tactical feeling of playing Chess without, you know, actually playing Chess, but Fire Emblem is one such experience, and there’s no doubt in my mind that if Fire Emblem Engage can stick the landing and continue in this vein, it’ll likely be the best the series has to offer yet.

Before I head back to playing it, I do want to offer up something that truly took me by surprise: this game is gorgeous. From the character designs and animations, cut-scenes, to the colourful battle arenas: it’s not what you expect from Fire Emblem in some ways. There’s a sheen to the vibrant art design that feels like it’s on a higher plane than usual, and after playing a game like Pokemon Scarlet, Engage almost feels next-gen, thanks to the vibrancy of the aesthetic, and the amount of fully voiced dialogue. With a soundtrack that’s been stuck in my head too, really all that’s left to say is I can’t wait to play more, and this feels like it could be the perfect game to hide away from 2023’s dark winter months with, and dare I say it, this could perhaps be the best Fire Emblem title ever.

For those who thought it was a miracle that Bayonetta 3 finally came out: surprise, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is coming in March 2023.

A new take on the Bayonetta series starring Cereza, a young apprentice witch before she would come to be called Bayonetta. Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon launches for Nintendo Switch on 17th March 2023.

It’s worth noting that while Bayonetta 3 was produced by Yuji Nakao, Cereza and the Lost Demon is instead has Koji Tanaka as producer, though Hideki Kamiya is still the supervising director.

In Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, players take on the role of Cereza, a young apprentice witch, and start a fateful journey into a forbidden forest to gain the power to save her mother. In addition to sporting a striking and distinct storybook-inspired art style of its own, this new title also features gameplay never before seen in the Bayonetta series. Controlling both Cereza and her infernal demon partner, Cheshire, players will focus on exploration, combat and puzzle solving to help Cereza go deeper into the forest.

Players who want a sneak peek of the game won’t have to wait long at all. In fact, a brief playable teaser for Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon can be accessed within Bayonetta 3. Players who purchased the Old Picture Book at Rodin’s shop, The Gates of Hell, using in-game currency and unlocked it with three keys will be able to access it.

After what seemed like a lifetime of waiting, Bayonetta 3 did come out in late October, where I gave it a 9/10 and said: “As action games go, let’s pull no punches: Bayonetta 3 is an exceptional time, and up there with the very best there is. Compelling from start to finish, there’s very little reason I can think of to say anything other than it was well worth the wait. Yes, it could look better, and sure, it could be a bit less sexy, but really there’s just nothing else out there like it, and it deserves to sell gangbusters, and be celebrated because ultimately, Bayonetta 3 itself feels like a celebration of the medium. Bloody hell, what a ride, but maybe don’t make us wait another eight years for the next one, please”.

Seems like I got my wish, because Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is out on Nintendo Switch, on March 17th, 2023.

Just in time for Christmas, My Nintendo Store UK has a great free game promotion on with purchases of the OLED Nintendo Switch model.

The promotion is for UK shoppers only, and will run from around 7am on Friday 9th December 2022 until 31st December 2022. The deal is for a Nintendo Switch OLED Model (£309.99) in either the white or neon blue/neon red JoyCon configuration, and if you do so, you’ll get Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit (the Mario or Luigi set) free (would usually be £99.99) or The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Swords HD (physical copy, usually £49.99) as part of the deal, for free.

My Nintendo Store UK is giving away a free game with Switch OLED purchases

We’ve reviewed both potentially free titles, but in case you didn’t realise, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is the one that comes with tracks and a real-life Mario Kart you can remote control around the room. Back in October 2020, I said this about it: “…it’s the best use of augmented reality I’ve seen: it properly works, and I love it. I’m so glad Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit exists, because I needed the smiles it gave me, and if I don’t play it again, I’ll still think fondly of the time I spent with it, and sometimes making memories is the most worthwhile thing of all.”

As per the video review above, Skyward Sword HD converted me from someone who didn’t like the game, to a big fan. Giving it a 9.5/10 score, I said “There’s just so much to love about it. The ten year old visuals look striking even next to modern games, and it now runs like a dream. The soundtrack is one of the best in the series, offering some exceptional melodies to accompany your journey. The controls feel great, offering two vastly different ways to play, neither less valid than the other. There’s great boss fights and fun new items. Skyward Sword HD has made a fool of me, and really, I am just so happy I gave it another chance. This is the best version of a truly landmark game, and you need to play it“.

This deal runs from from around 7am on Friday 9th December 2022 until 31st December 2022, or “while stocks last”.

Nintendo has announced the Nintendo Switch Sports golf mode is coming on November 29th as a free update, after around six months of waiting.

Nintendo Switch Sports golf mode has been eagerly awaited, and even had an update trailer back in September

The golf update will include 21 holes from the Wii Sports series, and support up to 8 players in the online mode. Survival golf will focus on elimination based on the number of strokes, and while the last news on the subject did say “Update available Holiday 2022”, many felt it’d be a bit sooner, but at least now we know: it’s coming on Tuesday, November 29th, 2022.

I really enjoyed Nintendo Switch Sports back in April, giving it 8.5/10 in my review, saying “The only other issue I have with Nintendo Switch Sports is that there’s no offline progression at all. If you don’t go online to play with or against people from around the world, you won’t unlock new clothes and accessories for your character. Really, this is a missed opportunity. There are more than enough modes within the sports to implement a challenge system of some sort, but it’s another reminder that this is a game aimed at online play.

Really, as long as you’re planning to play Nintendo Switch Sports online or with friends, you’re going to have a great time. I can’t stress enough how wonderful it was to have my now teenage children in the same room for hours on end playing something together. Yes, it’s on the lighter side as a package, and yes, there could be more sports ready to play right at launch, but I’m entirely confident that what’s here right now is a fantastic, fun time, and that if you enjoyed the Sports games that Nintendo has put out before, you’ll enjoy this too”.

Nintendo Switch Sports is out now.

Legendaries are a mainstay of any game in the Pokemon series, but the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet legendary Pokemon are particularly tricky, and time consuming to get. With our handy guide, however, we’ll talk you through the steps you need to take in order to find them, unlock them, and eventually catch the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Legendaries, so your team can be ready to take on all-comers when it comes to the online multiplayer.

First things first, it’s work saying that there will be spoilers in our Pokemon Scarlet and Violet legendaries guide, so if you’ve just started the game or don’t like to know about some of the bigger, deeper secrets of the ninth generation of Pokemon games, turn away now. For everyone else, let’s get started.

First steps: preparation

While we don’t think it’s essential to finish the main story of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it’s probably best to at least get to the end of the main three story paths. At the very least you’ll need to have finished The Path of Legends, because this will unlock all of the traversal for your legendary Pokemon mount, making getting around the large open world much easier, and quicker.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

To unlock the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet legendaries you will have to do a lot of exploration and running around. So get facing off against those massive Pokemon, defeat them, and get started with your legendary hunts. Finishing Victory Road and Starfall Street will also help because you’ll end up a higher level, able to brush off any Pokemon battles and, ultimately, make the fights against the legendaries themselves,  much easier.

Scarlet and Violet Legendary Pokemon: where to start?

It may not seem obvious, but the first place you’ll need to go is back to school. You’re told very early on in your adventure that you can take classes, and at some point you’ll even get a little “ping” message to tell you “new classes are available”. These are vital to the end-game of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. They not only give you major information about the legendary Pokemon for the game, but will give you presents and rewards that you won’t want to miss.

School: take lessons from Raifort

School: take lessons from Raifort

Each teacher at school has a purpose, but the one we want is Raifort. Take their history classes over and over, until there are no more left to experience. Then, look around the school for them and have a chat. Here, they will reveal the shrines and their locations throughout Paldea. Each of these shrines houses one of the four legendary Pokemon, but crucially, they will reveal how to actually unlock access.

While it’s potentially possible to skip this and get lucky, Raifort marks your map with the four shrines as well, and given that there’s no way to manually make a waypoint on your map for a random spot, this is a far easier way to make sure they are always visible.

How to access the shrines

This is the part you’re not going to like, we fear. Each shrine has eight (8) stakes hidden throughout the relevant region. For every two you find, you will break one of the chains. Four chains = eight stakes. These are often hidden in the mountains or off the beaten path, and we also had luck finding them near ruins.

How to access the shrines

You can see what the stakes look like in the image above. They change colour depending on the type of shrine you’re trying to unlock, and which region you’re searching in. They are visible from a decent distance, but it’s easy to confuse them with the glowing like from a Terastalized cave, or sometimes even an item or TM on the floor. Sadly you will have to search for them by scaling mountains, exploring nooks and crannies, but it’s well worth it!

Catch ’em all!

Once you’ve found all the stakes and unlocked the shrine, you can battle the Pokemon hiding inside of it. Defeat and capture them in the usual way, and you can add a brand new, ultra rare Pokemon that you can genuinely say you have earned the right to use in battle.

Bayonetta 3 might actually outdo its predecessor | Hands-on preview https://www.godisageek.com/2022/10/bayonetta-3-might-actually-outdo-its-predecessor-hands-on-preview/ Thu, 13 Oct 2022 13:00:21 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=268630 But this one goes to eleven!

The post Bayonetta 3 might actually outdo its predecessor | Hands-on preview appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Whether you’ve been keeping up on all things Bayonetta 3 or not over the last few years, there’s one thing I can confirm after playing it myself: it’s a real game that’s really coming out this month, and it’s exactly as over-the-top as you’d want it to be. Having played Bayonetta 2 multiple times, I was worried it might do a Saints Row on us. When you’ve flown so close to the sun with wings of wax, how much further can you truly push the envelope? Thankfully I don’t make the games, Platinum does, and it turns out the developer was holding back on us all along. It’s a bold statement perhaps, but even in the limited amount I can reveal here, outdoes the “crazy” that Bayo 2 brought, and then some.

It may have been nearly ten years, but Bayonetta 2 was ludicrous in its set pieces. Skyscrapers would fall around you as you slalomed around constant destruction, demonic enemies, and pulled off combos that made you look like you’re good at games. Bayonetta as a series just nails the feel of third-person action adventure titles like this, and thankfully Bayonetta 3 also feels like it’s here for Platinum to remind everyone who carries the crown. In fact, while much of what I’ve just said about the second game could be repeated for the third, there’s one crucial difference: you’re now able to summon Demon Slaves and control them at the same time. Yes, it’s ridiculous, and yes, it is a bit like Astral Chain.

Bayonetta 3 might actually outdo its predecessor | Hands-on preview

After my first session with Bayonetta 3, my head was spinning. There is so much to take in from a control perspective, but the ability to wield Gomorrah or Madama Butterfly (and there’s more I could mention, but I don’t want to spoil it this far from release), and have them part of your combos, with their own unique movesets and combos themselves… well it’s almost maddening how brilliant it is.

Take Gomorrah, for example. Controlling the gigantic beast means you can attack with the same face buttons you’d use for Cereza herself, but its special means it can bite an enemy. All of this is achieved by holding the left trigger, and you then control Gomorrah like you’re Bayonetta, as she dances around behind it. These Demon Slaves have their own health bar, and a magic meter you deplete as you summon, and they can timeout due to being beaten back, or if you run out of magic. Even a quick hit of the right trigger allows you to remove them from the battlefield and get back to kicking the life out of the new enemies in Bayonetta 3 as the titular Umbran Witch.

Bayonetta 3

It’s hard to put into words how magic this is in person. There’s no loading, no frames dropped: you just summon these Demon Slaves at will and suddenly you’ve a friend that’s bigger than the already gigantic enemies you’re facing. Demon Masquerade means you can use the likes of Madama Butterfly to basically morph into the demon and move quicker, get higher, etc. I’ve seen things to suggest there might even be some like MetroidVania elements involving the demons, but until I’m sure, I don’t want to say too much there.

Each weapon has a demon bound to it, so when you switch between then (Left Bumper) the Masquerade form can change, as well. Otherwise, you can select which demon you’re summoning with the D-Pad. It’s remarkable to see this all happening in front of you at a smooth 60fps, But there’s so much more to talk about, and not enough time to do it. The story seems intriguing, the combat is meticulous and satisfying, the mechanics laid over the top seem to enrich the experience, and every set piece seems to be more bonkers than the last one.

Bayonetta 3 switch screenshot

One thing I will say is that there really is a lot to learn. Aside the combat you might be familiar with, the addition of the Demon Slaves means you’re now remembering additional movesets you normally wouldn’t. Add on to that there being other playable characters like Viola, who might be a fast moving, agile character, too, but one that feels different to Bayonetta, and you sometimes feel like you’re at a rave with all the lights specifically being shone into your face. That said, nothing so far has seemed insurmountable, and I’d rather a game like this treat me with respect than have to babysit me the whole time.

It’s just that, when you play as Viola, she almost feels more like “old” Bayonetta (despite being a youngster, it seems), as she controls a little more simply. Without the direct control over Demon Slaves, it feels a little more manageable, and I was quickly racking up Platinum and even a few Pure Platinum medals with Viola. Time really will tell if it settles into a rhythm, however.

If Bayonetta 3 can keep up the pace for the rest of the game without over-egging the pudding, and if it can keep introducing new things for me to play with, without becoming overly complicated, it’s going to be a very difficult game to displace from the top echelons of people’s game of the year lists. It may have been a long time coming, it may have even felt like, at times, it wasn’t ever going to come at all. But it’s nearly here, and once again: it’s real, and it’s astonishing, and that’s before we even talk about all the little nods to things fans will lap up.

Bayonetta 3 is out exclusively for Nintendo Switch on October 28th.

Yes, you read that right, folks. GoldenEye 007 will be coming to Nintendo Switch Online and Xbox Game Pass soon, with a host of improvements for the Xbox version. First announced during Nintendo Direct, fans old enough to remember the seminal first-person shooter collectively cried into their screens as the announcement was made (probably).

Although the Nintendo Switch version, coming through the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online service, won’t have certain improvements, players will be able to play online exclusively on Switch. As for the version coming to Xbox Game Pass, it’ll be a complete 4K remaster with a smoother framerate and achievements. More details were revealed in an official Xbox post, where it said “the original experience has been updated with improved control options (including dual analogue stick support), native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD (where supported), a consistent refresh rate and a full complement of achievements to unlock.”

It’s also worth noting that for players who own a digital copy of Rare Replay, the 30-game compilation of classics from the legendary developer, they’ll be able to download GoldenEye 007 free of charge. More details are said to be shared soon, but knowing players are going to get to play one of the pioneering titles of the FPS once more, is enough to make you shed a tear.

It Takes Two is coming to Nintendo Switch https://www.godisageek.com/2022/09/it-takes-two-is-coming-to-nintendo-switch/ Tue, 13 Sep 2022 18:07:03 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=267341 Hello, elephant, we meet again

The post It Takes Two is coming to Nintendo Switch appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

During today’s Nintendo Direct, it was announced It that Takes Two, the hugely successful platformer from Hazelight, will be arriving on Nintendo Switch November 4 this year. The delightful two-player game released to critical acclaim, winning multiple game of the year awards back in 2021, including ‘Nicest Surprise’ and ‘Game of the Year’ in our own end of year deliberations.

It Takes Two sees you play with a friend in the roles of two parents on the brink of divorce, who get turned into tiny dolls by their daughter. It’s a heartfelt and moving tale that features some incredible level design and mechanics, pushing the boundaries of the genre and providing plenty of laughs along the way.

It’s cool to see it come to the Switch, as Fares told us in an interview last year about his and the team at Hazelight’s love for the console when we talked about the studio taking a different path from A Way Out. “Look, I’m a big Nintendo fan, and many of the team are action platformer fans. For us it felt natural to go this way. It was hard work, but from a design perspective it was a dream come true. One thing that is very important is not just the fact you keep the experience variated, but that it connects with the story.”

We gave It Takes Two a resounding 10, saying, “It Takes Two is without a doubt one of the best platformers I’ve played in the last decade. The level design is incredible, and the amount of ideas in terms of its co-operative elements make every second of it so much fun to play. It’s a fairly long game, and the fact that it never gets dull makes it great value for money, especially with the ‘Friend Pass’ option. As soon as it finished, I wanted to play through it again, and with both May and Cody having different abilities, it provides another reason to dive back in for a second time. There’s so much I wanted to talk about, but those moments deserve to be experienced for yourselves. Please, if you play any game this year, play It Takes Two. You won’t regret it.”

Pre-orders are available now before the game releases on November 4, 2022.

A sequel to the hugely popular Octopath Traveler has been announced, coming to PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on February 24, 2023. Octopath Traveler II will take place in the fictional world of Solistia, “a land comprising an eastern and western continent divided by the sea.” Large shipping vessels navigate busy sea routes, with the power of steam providing new technologies to the bustling city. The signature visuals return, with HD-2D graphics, retro pixel art, and 3DCG, looking even better than in its predecessor.

Octopath Traveler II will feature eight new travelers hailing from different regions, all with their own origins, motivations, and unique skills, with players exploring the land, uncovering their stories, and using unique talents to aid them along their journey. They’ll all have a set of Path Actions to battle townspeople, obtain items, take others along on their travels, and more. Returning features like the freedom to develop jobs and skills, and the Break and Boost system, will all return for the sequel. New mechanics are also set to feature.

It’s been four years since the original released, but we gave it a solid 8.5, saying, “Octopath Traveler has brought to mind some of my fondest memories of games like Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy X, Bravely Default, and even a bit of what I played of Romancing SaGa 2. I don’t mention those names lightly and while this is a fantastic JRPG in its own right, it continues to resonate more and more with me as I see how some aspects of my favourite games have been sprinkled in to this game that feels like a love letter to the 16-bit JRPG era but built for the modern era. Octopath Traveler is not only an essential RPG but it is a fantastic reason to buy a Switch if you’ve been craving a meaty JRPG with one of the best soundtracks in gaming and a superb battle system.

As the final announcement on a Nintendo Direct, it doesn’t come much bigger: we have the full name and release date for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

In case you didn’t realise it, that game name is brand new, and is what we’ve been referring to as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Until now that is, as the official name, which Nintendo itself said it didn’t want to reveal too early as it’s a bit of a spoiler, is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

In a very brief (90 second) trailer, the name was revealed along with the release date: 12th of May, 2023.

Lots of artwork was shown, before seeing Link flying with a winged creature of some sort, climbing as usual, and doing some magic stuff with rocks. It’s easily the most anticipated game for most people in 2023, already, we’d bet. The original game was a masterpiece, as seen in our 10/10 scoring review, where I said: “I do not say this lightly: Breath of the Wild is an absolute masterpiece, and may well be the best The Legend of Zelda game ever made. Having grown up playing those first games as a child on a system I remember fondly, it feels extra special to be playing a new Zelda on a new console; that I can’t deny, and there are flaws (it’s not perfect), but otherwise, this is everything I wanted it to be and more. I won’t forget Breath of the Wild for a long time, because it’s a memorable, beautiful, stunner of a game”.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is coming to Nintendo Switch on May 12th, 2023.

Nintendo loves a tease and it seems Pikmin 4 is the latest to get that treatment, as we now know it’s coming… next year.

Introduced by Shigeru Miyamoto, he spent a great deal of the presentation talking about Pikmin Bloom, the mobile game by Niantic that’s basically Pokemon Go, but Pikmin. Then, he announced Pikmin 4 would be coming in 2023. There was a specific comment about “not showing gameplay yet”, but Miyamoto-san did explain that the Switch controls make the game much easier to play.

Pikmin 3 was re-released in 2020 for Switch, and Chris Hyde scored it a 9/10, saying: “Pikmin 3 Deluxe wants everyone to come and experience what it has to offer. It doesn’t matter if you’re a single-player enthusiast or someone looking to sit down with a friend or family member. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a simple story experience or are a completionist. It doesn’t matter if you’re a speedrunner or a casual player. What matters is you enjoy yourself and Pikmin 3 Deluxe knows that. It has difficulty settings, and bags of content allowing you to tailor your experience and enjoy spending time in it’s lovely, charming, beautiful world. Pikmin 3 Deluxe has something for everyone, and that something is a whopping great smile.”.

Pikmin 4 is coming to Nintendo Switch in 2023.

A brand new title, Fire Emblem: Engage has been announced by Nintendo, and it looks to be heading back to the turn based goodness.

There’s a clear influence of Three Houses present, as Fire Emblem: Engage looks like it has had a major visual upgrade over the previous titles, but also the 3D exploration phases look set to return. Even the UI looks new, almost closer to a standard JRPG than anything.

The new Fire Emblem is coming to Switch on January 20th, 2023 and there will be a collectors edition with some items that unlock in game.

The previous Fire Emblem title, Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a game we loved, awarding an 8.5/10 to, saying: “Three Houses is excellent, no question. I wouldn’t spend 50 hours in a game if it wasn’t compelling, which is in part thanks to the story that I wanted to see the resolution of. In truth, it’s difficult to know if I wanted to see “what happens next” or whether something would change up the formula. Fire Emblem has switched things up, borrowing heavily from Persona along the way. It does just enough to stick the landing thanks to a story that’s worth seeing through, and combat that is as brilliant as ever, but it wouldn’t have gone amiss to give a few extra exploration areas.”

The post A Nintendo Direct is coming tomorrow afternoon appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

A brand new Nintendo Direct has been announced for 3pm on September 13th, UK time “featuring roughly 40 minutes of information mostly focused on Nintendo Switch games launching this winter”.

This means we’ll likely see more of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Bayonetta 3 (both of which are out in October) and could well mean some surprise announcements, given the fact Nintendo likes to release a game a month, and has nothing outside of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet for the rest of November and December. Perhaps we’ll get a new date for Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp — who knows?

Last time this happened at a Nintendo Direct, we got the announcement of Paper Mario: The Origami King, but there have been rumours circulating for a while now around The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and even a Metroid Prime remake, which would be one hell of a reveal, given the huge games we still have coming this year for all platforms.

Who knows, given that it “mostly” features games launching this Winter, maybe there will be an update on Breath of the Wild 2, though, well, we wouldn’t hold our breath (of the wild — sorry). With Splatoon 3 just out as well, there may even be details of future updates for that, but that’s again, pure speculation.

Regardless, via the embedded player above you can come back tomorrow at 3pm UK time (7am PT, 10am ET, 4pm CEST) and watch is, so bookmark this page temporarily until then, or subscribe to the Nintendo YouTube accounts to get watching on your phones.

As with some previous Nintendo Directs and showcases, the UK channel won’t be broadcasting it live, and instead will appear on the channel later. The official UK account tweeted: “As a mark of respect during this period of national mourning, we will not livestream tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct. It will be published as a video-on-demand on our YouTube channel at 16:00 (UK time) tomorrow”.

The post Splatoon 3 breaks sales records within the first three days appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

Nintendo has announced 3.45million units of Splatoon 3 have sold within three days, which is a new record for that period.

Announced via the Nintendo of Japan corporate site, Nintendo said “domestic sales of the Splatoon 3 game for the Nintendo Switch system have surpassed 3.45 million units”, which is a figure included both packaged and downloadable versions. The previous game sold very well too, with reports of over 13.3million copies sold worldwide.

Nintendo adds in the release that “Nintendo will continue its efforts to deliver Nintendo like entertainment including Splatoon 3, and communicate the features and values of Nintendo Switch, which customers can play anytime, anywhere, and with anyone”.

In my 9/10 scoring review, I said “Splatoon 3 may not be the most exciting release in the calendar, but it is the best the game has been. A plethora of tweaks to the formula mean it’s accessible, and there’s no nonsense to slow you down and stop you playing. A successful single player campaign is met with multiplayer fun that is unmatched by any other game for how unique and fun it is, and a massive amount of weapons means you won’t be getting bored any time soon. Splatoon 3 is a rip-roaring success, then, and is perhaps the game that fans wanted all along”.

Splatoon 3 is out now for Nintendo Switch.

Splatoon 3 absolutely has me. I say this because it’s been a while since I played an early build of a game and couldn’t stop thinking about it in such a way. Having had the chance to play three levels from the single player campaign, some co-op Salmon Run, and some versus-mode Turf War, it absolutely has me already.

But before we get too far into it, I want to just say that a lot of what makes Splatoon 3 (so far) better than the previous game, is that it seems like Nintendo has actually listened to the player base. It’s less revolution, and more evolution, which is perhaps fair for a game that’s the third in the series. There’s a hub world, there’s loads of cute characters, but you know this from watching the Direct, so how does it actually play?

Splatoon 3 hero mode

Starting with the single player Hero Mode, it’s difficult to say too much as the levels I played were without context from any cut-scenes or narrative. That said, each of the levels felt as creative as anything in the first game, albeit the early levels. There was also a distinct feeling that the Octo Expansion DLC has influenced things, as you start off each mission walking through the entrance to the level.

The big addition to Splatoon 3’s Hero Mode is Smallfry, a little Salmonid that you toss into the distance to reach things you otherwise couldn’t The first level required me to collect keys to open the exit to the level, and one was only reachable by using Smallfry to open up a paint-based rail to grind on. There’s still loads of gaps to fall into beneath you on the levels, and the enemies I saw was mostly the same as the previous games, but they’re still fun to kill, and placement of them feels like a tutorial to get used to the new weapons. For example, the bow-like “Tri-Stringer” can be charged or shot quickly. Once fired, three ink-strings fly out, and if you jump upward it’ll change from a sideways shot, to a vertical one.

The practice area

Back in the hub, when you start a multiplayer match there’s now a lobby you can test out your gear in. It was here I discovered the Splatana Wiper, a sword-like weapon. I was looking for the roller, because I’m that guy, but the Wiper feels like a halfway combo between the roller and the bucket. Time will tell how it fairs in the meta, but the match I played using it I felt I did pretty well in, getting great coverage with the ink while also getting a decent amount of eliminations.

In terms of Turf War, I don’t have too much to report back on so far. The maps we played felt like good Splatoon maps, which is to say there’s nook and crannies you need to know about to ensure maximum coverage. As usual I was left wondering how often Nintendo should remind people that getting “kills” is not how you win at Splatoon: paint the floor, and keep out of trouble. Move and paint the floor with ink, people.

Splatoon 3 turf war

One of my favourite things from Splatoon 2 is back, in the form of Salmon Run: Next Wave. It feels like forever ago I would play it regularly, but it just has such a moreish, enjoyable feel to it. Defending yourself and your team still feels excellent, and much of what made it fun has returned. You still start with a random weapon, you can still revive teammates if they are downed, special weapons are still incredibly useful.

There are new boss Salmonids and returning favourites, but the biggest addition is egg throw. Here you can use ink to throw held eggs to other teammates, or just away from danger, and if you target the basket they will be thrown in. I’m not one hundred percent sure, but it seems the further you throw, the more ink used, which at least makes sense. It remains tough but fair, and requires coordination as you get into the third wave, but it’s still tremendous fun. Oh and most importantly, you can play it whenever you want; thank God.

Salmon run next wave

Despite all of this, there’s plenty to get into when Splatoon 3 hits shelves in September. There’s loads of modes shown in the Nintendo Direct I didn’t get to see. Of course there’s also the question of how long the Hero Mode is, or if the quality can be maintained throughout. Regardless, I can’t stop thinking about Splatoon 3, because it so far feels like the culmination of a lot of learning from complaints combined with the unique, joyous entertainment it already offered. If this one can stick the landing, fans of the series might finally get everything they want and more. Fingers crossed.

Splatoon 3 is out on September 9th, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet show off competitive play in new trailer https://www.godisageek.com/2022/08/pokemon-scarlet-and-violet-show-off-competitive-play-in-new-trailer/ Mon, 22 Aug 2022 09:47:02 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=266487 Online is back.

The post Pokemon Scarlet and Violet show off competitive play in new trailer appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

With the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet looming on the horizon, The Pokemon Company has detailed some of the competitive play in a new trailer.

The last game (Arceus) had no online match options, so Pokemon Scarlet and Violet do seem to be going back to the online functionality that people really liked.

Among the new moves are the likes of “Shed Tail”, which allows a Pokemon to create a substitute, then swap places with a party Pokemon in waiting. This one is going to need to be balanced, or it could be abused, for sure. “Mirror herb” is a new item, which copies an opponent’s stat increases when consumed, while the trailer also shows off Terastallizing, which “changes types and turns the tables”, or in other words, allows you to change type from something like fire to water in the middle of a battle.

Another new item is “Loaded Dice”, which makes multistrike moves move likely to hit more times, and a move called “Tera Blast” changes type when the user has Terastallized.

Of coruse, Scarlet and Violet have a lot to live up to, thanks to this year’s Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which I reviewed, saying “It’s difficult to say this statement without overhyping Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but this is the title I’ve wanted Game Freak to make for the longest time. Fluid, responsive, open to exploration, almost feeling like a reboot of the series: Arceus is an absolute triumph in pretty much every regard. While many seem to revel in Pokemon having rough frame rates, or being “the same as before”, I can tell you that Arceus exceeds all expectations, on almost every front”.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are due out in November 18th, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

Splatoon 3 direct shows off new modes, and lots more https://www.godisageek.com/2022/08/splatoon-3-direct-shows-off-new-modes-and-lots-more/ Wed, 10 Aug 2022 13:33:27 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=266180 Clam Blitz.

The post Splatoon 3 direct shows off new modes, and lots more appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

One of Nintendo’s biggest 2022 releases still to come is Splatoon 3, and it just had a 30 minute long Nintendo Direct showcase revealing new modes and much more.

As you can imagine, the main hub has had a massive overhaul, but the new Clam Blitz mode looks great, which seems to be an American football style game where you have to throw the ball into a zone to score points. Another large single player mode is also present and continues the battle between Squidlings and Octarians (who are now sporting wild hair for some reason). Nintendo did refer to this single player portion as the “epic finale” of the saga, too, which is interesting.

In terms of customisation, you have “splashtags” which are banners, badges, and titles all rolled into one. You can also change the emotes your character performs when you win a battle. There’s an in-game catalog that you can buy these all from, and there will season gear, with a new catalog launching every few months.

Tableturf battle was also revealed, which looks like a weird Tetris-based puzzle game that lets you play opponents by laying cards (over 150 are available). You’ll get a starter deck for free, and Sheldon is involved as well.

Salmon Run is back in the form of “Next Wave”, and is still a four player co-op mode. There are new bosses and you still need to grab the golden eggs and deliever them into the nets to complete the quota for each wave. Sometimes before you finish a job, enormous “King” bosses will appear, and you get to fire golden eggs to deal “massive damage”,  but it’s all on a timer, so you have to get it done quickly. There’s also something called “Big Run” which is going to come up once every few months, so more timed content there.

In the square there’s also a “Miiverse” style mailbox that lets you do drawings to send to people, both horizontal and vertical. Food returns and is a buff again. The Shoal is the school that lets you play locally, while Photo Mode is, well, a photo mode. Recon Mode is new, and lets you pick any of the in-game stages and just walk around them and explore at your leisure, which is a great idea, and something you rarely see in shooters these days, offering a chance to get used to the game’s maps.

Splatoon 3 will also have support for the new Splatnet app, which will be available at launch. Amiibo are supported for costumes, and you can take photos with them, and of course, there are three new Amiibo due to be released this holiday: two Octolings (blue and yellow), and a Smallfry Salmon.

There’s plenty of support coming after launch, too. New weapons, new catalogs, X-Battle (gained after high rank) and League Battle are coming in a future update, as well. “Large scale paid DLC” is also coming in the future, but Nintendo didn’t say what that would entail, as of yet.

I won’t spoil the final reveal of the direct, but it was a nice one for fans. It does seem, however, that the long-winded intro may still be present when you boot the game up, while Splatfests are also set to return, but there will be three teams to pick from instead of the previous choice of two, resulting in a Tricolor Turf War where three teams will fight at the same time. There will be a pre-release Splatfest on the 27th of August where you’ll need to pick between rock, paper, or scissors. It’s only going to run for that one day, though.

Anyone who wants to dive into Splatoon 3 before it launches on 9th September can join the Splatfest World Premiere on 27th August. Starting 18th August, the free demo can be downloaded from Nintendo eShop. Players can choose Team Rock, Team Paper or Team Scissors until 27th August. Certain parts of the demo will already be playable on 25th August, before the Splatfest event itself kicks off on 27th August at 10:00 CEST.

Splatoon 3 is out for Nintendo Switch on September 9th, 2022.

Hot on the heels of Nintendo announcing the release date for Bayonetta 3, developer PlatinumGames has revealed a new mode called “Naive Angel Mode”.

The mode is designed so that “more people can fully enjoy it. By turning it on, you can play right in the living room without having to worry about what’s on screen… we think”, according to the developer’s tweeted:

.

It seems the mode will censor some of the moments where more of Bayonetta’s skin is on display, and with certain costumes that, shall we say, look a bit risque on others. Likewise, when Bayonetta wears a very revealing outfit, this Naive Angel Mode will just add a layer and cover her up. Along with the message about the mode PlatinumGames did say that “the witch is back and sexier than ever”, so if you don’t want to turn off the skin, etc, then you’ll be fine too, I guess.

After what feels like years of waiting, Nintendo randomly revealed the October 28th release date for the game, along with the limited edition, making for a very busy month as October is also going to be the month Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is released on Nintendo Switch as well.

The last Bayonetta title was released in 2014 on Wii U, but was repackaged for Switch in 2018, where I gave the game an 8.5/10 and said: “This is a strong port of a terrific game. In for a penny, in for a pound and all that, but I still think there is room for improvement with the combat, and would prefer DmC’s to Bayonetta 2, but thankfully that’s not a choice I have to make. Bayonetta 2 remains one of Platinum’s best games, and is a treat on Switch just as it was on Wii U”.

Bayonetta 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 28th.

For those of you who’ve been patiently waiting for a release date for Bayonetta 3, it’s time to get excited. Today, it was announced that the third entry into the popular hack-and-slash franchise will be coming on October 28 for Nintendo Switch. There was also a brand new trailer released to celebrate the announcement, and you’ll be able to watch it below.

Bayonetta 3 sees the ferocious Umbra Witch join forces with some familiar faces, the mysterious Viola, and other Bayonettas to stop the human-made Homunculi from destroying everything. As seen in the trailer below, players will meet a coven of Bayonettas while fighting through the streets of Tokyo, the mountains of China, and beyond. There’re also new abilities such as the Demon Masquerade, which uses over-the-top combos and demonic powers to kick the Homunculi’s ass. New playable character Viola is an in-training witch, and she’s ready to unleash hell with her sword and trusty companion, the feline demon Cheshire.

To coincide with the release, a special Trinity Masquerade Edition of Bayonetta 3 will be available, featuring a full-colour art book which will showcase all the beauties and beasts of the game, and three exclusive title sheets for each game that combines to form a panoramic artwork. There will be more details revealed in the future. It has also been revealed that the original Bayonetta will launch for Nintendo Switch as a physical release on September 30, getting players ready for the highly-anticipated third title.
