The remaster of the 2010 Nintendo Wii title Sonic Colours is coming to Steam today (February 7th) in the form of Sonic Colours: Ultimate. The Ultimate edition of Sonic Colours was released in September 2021 for consoles, as Sega starting dipping its toes back into Sonic games, before landing on last year’s Sonic Frontiers.

As part of the launch celebrations, Sega is discounting other Sonic games on Steam from today until 6pm (UK time) on February 13th. There will be titles available at discount rates of anywhere between 30% and 75% off, while Sonic Colours: Ultimate is launching at 30% off, meaning the standard edition will cost £34.99, and the digital deluxe edition will cost £39.99. That deluxe edition includes the game, a cosmetic pack, and a music pack, both of which are also available separately for £3.29 and £3.99 respectively.

Also in the sale is Sonic Origins (£16.49) and Sonic Generations (£3.74), while Sonic Frontiers is also 30% off and can be grabbed for £34.99, down from £49.99, while Team Sonic Racing is under a tenner too, at £8.74.

Sonic Colours: Ultimate brings a fresh hue to the 2010 high-speed adventure with stunning upscaled visuals, additional features, a new game mode and enhanced gameplay.

Developer by Blind Squirrel Entertainment, Sean reviewed the game back then, and said: “There are a few extra bits – costumes based on the 2020 Sonic movie, some new music and voice tracks, and a time trial where you get to challenge Metal Sonic over six special stages. Sadly, it has very little to make it an essential purchase, unless of course you are a huge fan of the original and want a sugary nostalgia rush. But do that bearing in mind you can pick up a Wii and a copy of the game for pretty much what you would shell out here”.

Sonic Colours is out now for PC and Consoles.

French indie developers Supercube has today revealed its debut game, The Pioneers: Surviving Desolation, coming to Steam Early Access on January 20. The survival space simulation title will allow players to use survival and base-building mechanics to create an “atmospheric space sim experience.”

The Pioneers: Surviving Desolation puts players in command of the three-surviving crew of Io-1, forcing them to overcome the realities of surviving in space amidst alien environments filled with low gravity, volcanoes, magnetic storms, and various other dangers. Keep your crew alive while exploring, crafting, and manage resources to do it.

The base-building will allow players to upgrade using various services to improve things like healthcare and engineering. Key features of The Pioneers: Surviving Desolation are detailed below:

 • Explore – Io may be dangerous, but it is also home to beautiful, desolate landscapes. Explore the land and collect important scientific data to accomplish your mission. Board a rover or a flying drone and venture out to gather precious resources in the various biomes of Io.
 • Build – Produce materials, build modules and engineering systems, craft wearable equipment, and make food. Utilize the game’s advanced health system to monitor everyone carefully to keep them alive.
 • Survive – Volcanos, seismic activity, sulphur winds, and magnetic storms will constantly pressure your crew. Anticipate and adapt. Your crew’s life depends on it.
 • Manage – Start with three characters chosen randomly from a pool of 15. Adapt to their strengths and weaknesses and use everything they have to survive.
 • Simulate – Multiple winning conditions and endings. Play again and again, take advantage of upgrades, learn the best strategies for survival, and master all of Io’s unforgiving elements.

The Pioneers: Surviving Desolation is coming to Steam Early Access on January 20th, 2023. Players can wishlist the game right now on Steam.

Outlanders is jumping from Apple Arcade to Steam in 2023 https://www.godisageek.com/2022/10/outlanders-is-jumping-from-apple-arcade-to-steam-in-2023/ Thu, 13 Oct 2022 13:00:35 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=268640 QoL updates and a refreshed UI are coming with the PC version.

The post Outlanders is jumping from Apple Arcade to Steam in 2023 appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Already a hit on Apple Arcade, Pomelo Games has announced its settlement builder Outlanders is coming to Steam next year. It will have an update UI and plenty of quality of life features which should ensure PC players don’t feel like they’re playing a game designed for mobile.

According to the developer, what sets Outlanders apart from other games in the city-building genre is “the focus is on macro-management, not micro-management”. Pomelo Games says “There are no pesky raiders trying to tear down your walls or rival towns to defend against either. So whether players are tackling missions in the Campaign Mode or freestyling in the Sandbox, the only fight here is to keep the Outlanders happy and help them achieve their individual goals”.

The main features of the game are:

 • A relaxing town-builder that places the focus on macro, not micro, management
 • Opt to complete missions in Campaign Mode or go it alone in the sandbox
 • No wars, raids or combat. Outlanders is a truly peaceful experience
 • Keep the Outlanders happy and help them achieve their wildest dreams!
 • Play at your own pace and relax alongside a carefully-crafted soundtrack

While there are no raids, wars or combat in Outlanders, the game still provides a challenge for those who want it. The main campaign mode presents a string of increasingly complex mission-based levels, each with a specific set of completion criteria. Introducing a new town leader and population each time, the campaign mode offers more focused gameplay and gives both newcomers and veterans of the town-building genre the ability to get to grips with everything Outlanders has to offer.

More confident builders can dive into the sandbox mode. In this no-limits mode, players can create themed towns, achieve their own goals and manage their own growing population in where the only boundaries are the imagination! No matter where they play, the balancing act of maintaining building supplies, food sources and protecting the nature around them is key to success.

Outlanders is set to launch on Steam in early 2023 and is currently available via Apple Arcade for iOS devices.

The Steam app gets a long overdue update and visual overhaul https://www.godisageek.com/2022/10/the-steam-app-gets-a-long-overdue-update-and-visual-overhaul/ Thu, 13 Oct 2022 08:51:41 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=268723 Valve does it again.

The post The Steam app gets a long overdue update and visual overhaul appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

The Steam app has finally been given a major update by Valve, and it’s night and day in terms of visual quality.

While Valve has often led the way with things like the Valve Index for VR, or even the recently released Steam Deck, the app has felt like a browser window inside an app shell for years now, but this new update really does bring a lot new aside the visual update, though it’s still not possible to redeem game codes (you have to use a mobile web link to do that) within the app.

One of the biggest features is the QR code login, which means once activated on your mobile device, you can just use your phone to scan a QR code on a PC (or even Steam Deck via a future update) and log in super-quick. Having tested that on a browser, it’s excellent and works flawlessly.

Features of the app

 • Two-factor authentication to ensure you’re the only one with access to your account
 • QR code sign in – Scan a QR code to sign into Steam instead of entering a password or…
 • Sign in confirmation – Confirm your regular Steam sign ins with simple “approve” or “deny”
 • Authorized Devices – Manage access to the devices your account has signed in
 • Easy access to the Store, Community, News, etc from wherever you are
 • Your Library with access to your game content, discussions, guides, support, and more
 • Remote download of games and updates on your PC, managed from your phone
 • Customizable Steam notifications: wishlist, sales, comments, trades, discussions, friend requests, and more
 • Trade and Market confirmations – to ensure items don’t leave your account without your approval
 • An improved Store browsing experience for mobile screens
 • Support for using multiple Steam accounts in the app
 • Customizable tabs

One of the nice features is that remote downloading, but the improved store is just a far better experience overall. You can update your existing app, or grab it from the iOS Store or Google Play marketplace.

Infernax is a brutal, old-school adventure: hands-on preview https://www.godisageek.com/2022/01/infernax-is-a-brutal-old-school-adventure-hands-on-preview/ Tue, 11 Jan 2022 15:00:37 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=259044 Pray 'n' slay

The post Infernax is a brutal, old-school adventure: hands-on preview appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed my short time with Infernax, an old school 2D hack ‘n’ slash from Berzerk Studio. It manages to be taxing but not needlessly punishing, although you can choose that yourself the first time you die.

See, outwardly, Infernax looks like it’s going to be another hardcore roguelike ready to ram its pixelated needles of hatred through your eyes. And indeed, you can opt for that path if you’re the sort of person who enjoys slamming their fingertips in drawers.

Infernax: hardcore or casual?

The Hardcore respawn option removes your collected currency and sends you back to the last shrine you prayed at. The Casual option starts you closer to your last position and allows you to keep your coins and XP. Honestly, I still died, and still felt the challenge. Just not the rage.

Infernax

It reminded me of when games were just hard, not forcibly punishing just because it works when FromSoft do it. The ghouls and zombies and demons who come at you in Infernax can still be a handful, but learning their attacks and how to deal with them is where the fun lies.

You play a Duke returning from the Crusades to find that evil has infested your homeland. Taking up your sword and shield, you set out to liberate the towns and settlements under your care from the darkness. It’s a pretty simple set-up, but one that does occasionally stick its tongue in its cheek.

When you’re dead, you’re dead

For example, your death animations are pretty brutal. Usually shown in black silhouette on a blood-red backdrop, the beasts that get the better of you rarely stop at just one swing. When you’re dead in Infernax, you know you’re dead. Luckily, though, this is a game, and so death is all part of the experience. You need to earn XP to upgrade your innate abilities (Power, Health, and Magic), and gather coin to buy new armour and weapons.

Infernax

There’s a visual change when you upgrade your armour, which is nice as pixel art games don’t always do that. The short early access demo I played doesn’t showcase an awful lot, unfortunately. However, I did get to play around with a healing spell, which takes up two bars of your 4 magic bars. This can be increased, though what kind of spells you’ll be slinging around remains to be seen.

Infernax: a Metroidvania at heart

Combat is a simple case of moving forward and attacking, or ducking and attacking. If you stand still, you’ll block most incoming attacks with your shield, though larger enemies can damage you through that. While this is a Metroidvania at heart, there are also side quests you can undertake. As an example, we took a job to clear out a violent skeleton that was haunting the grave of one villager’s father. The fight was tough, but not insurmountable, and we were handsomely rewarded for our efforts.

The boss fights in the demo are fairly straightforward. Usually they require a bit of quick dodging and jumping, followed by spamming attack as quickly as possible when an opening presents itself. There’s nothing particularly nuanced about them, no multiple phases or surprises so far.

Infernax

Early on I happened upon a villager about to succumb to the evil. I was offered the choice to slay him or pray for him. I opted for the latter, thinking I might be able to save him, but he turned into a huge boss instead. While the immediate result was obvious, it remains to be seen whether such choices will have far-reaching consequences.

Still, this is a very early version of what the finished game will be and it was enough to get my attention. The combat and exploration is fun, there’s scope for moral or narrative tangents, and the humour is likeable. I’m looking forward to getting hold of the final game and seeing just how deep these systems go.

Infernax is coming to PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on February 14, 2022.

If you’re looking for a good cause to support while you’re gaming this week, then you should check out the War Child UK Sporting Champions fundraiser. Featuring a bunch of (slightly loosely) sports based games, there are some great deals available.

“War Child UK is holding another great Sporting Champions fundraiser to help support children and young people whose lives have been affected by war. The Sporting Champions campaign provides the opportunity for gamers to make an impact by purchasing sports themed video games via a Steam sale – proceeds from which will help fund the charity’s work in protecting, educating and standing up for the rights of children caught up in conflict. Sporting Champions takes place 14 July.”

If you haven’t come across War Child UK before, they are a wonderful charity that support children affected by conflict. If you fancy playing something new for a good cause, and if you need a recommendation I’d say check out Drive Buy and Worms Crazy Golf from the list available.

“War Child UK is the only specialist charity for children affected by conflict. For more than two decades we’ve been driven by a single goal – for no child’s life to be torn apart by war. We aim to reach children as early as possible when conflict breaks out and stay to support them through their recovery – keeping them safe, helping them learn and cope with their experiences, and equipping them with skills for the future.

We understand children’s needs, respect their rights, and put them at the centre of the solution and campaign for changes to policies and practices to support children in conflict, working with children and young people themselves to demand their rights.”

Tate Multimedia has announced that its motorbike platformer Steel Rats is available for free on Xbox and PC until April 4, 2021. Steel Rats is a dieselpunk title set in an alternative 1940’s American coastal city. You must save it from the deadly invasion of alien Junkbots.

From April 2, 2021 Steel Rats is available to play for free on Xbox One, and Steam. Find it on the Microsoft Store here or on Steam here.

See the Steel Rats trailer below:

Gary Bailey reviewed Steel Rats on PS4 and gave it a 7/10. He had this to say about the game:

Steel Rats is certainly an interesting prospect. With some decent platform gameplay mixed with inertia-driven vehicle movement, and it’s all played out to a stunning soundtrack. From the Blade Runner-esque menu music, to the hefty grunt of the bike engines, this is a game best played with headphones – or a nice speaker setup, if you have forgiving (or hard-of-hearing) neighbours. It’s an innovative game that tries something new, which does work the majority of the time. At worst, it’s a little awkward and frustrating, but at its best Steel Rats is a satisfying adventure that will keep you entertained for hours.

When you first arrive in Valheim, it feels as though you’ve got no idea what you’re doing, but Iron Gate Studio introduces many of the survival aspects quickly enough to not leave you feeling lost for long. The developers have already revealed an Early Access roadmap which features new biomes, new enemies, and improvements to combat, ships, and more. What started off as a game being developed by one man has become the biggest selling game of 2021 so far.

“I don’t think I have really had time to contemplate it. I know that players like the game a lot, but at the same time I think that I can make something even better in the future. I’m looking forward to adding more content to the game, especially working on the remaining biomes,” said Richard Svensson, CEO of Iron Gate Studio. “Our current roadmap only reaches the next biome and we hope to have it done by the end of the year, but it might very well take longer depending on how smooth the development will be. I really don’t want to stress the development, that never ends well.”

“I was describing Valheim to a friend over a year ago as a game that made me feel how I felt when I fell in love in games for the first time. Up until three weeks ago I thought this was a unique connection I alone had with Valheim,” said Albert Säfström, CEO, Coffee Stain Publishing. “Seeing the incredible reception from players in these past weeks has made me realise that Valheim is something truly special, not only for me, but for more players than I could have imagined.”

You can buy Valheim in Early Access via Steam for £15.49.

Rustler is a clunky and crazy ride through Medieval times | Early Access preview https://www.godisageek.com/2021/02/rustler-is-a-clunky-and-crazy-ride-through-medieval-times-early-access-preview/ Tue, 23 Feb 2021 13:50:07 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=247179 Horsing around

The post Rustler is a clunky and crazy ride through Medieval times | Early Access preview appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

From the moment I booted up Rustler (Grand Theft Horse), I was intrigued by just how stupid and amusing it was. An FMV backed by an original hip-hop track introduced me to the world I would be a part of, and from there I was all in on seeing just how good Rustler could be. Whilst the setting isn’t original, or even is the clear homage to Rockstar Games’ early entries in the GTA series, there was still something that kept me playing. Whilst it is in Early Access on Steam and there’re going to be some teething issues, it felt as though some of the main elements upon the game’s release are still going to be an issue.

The controls are a pain in the ass, whether on foot or on horseback. Fighting feels cumbersome and lacks accuracy, whilst the tank controls are baffling given you don’t move like that when you’re on your feet. Everything about Rustler feels as though it’s been ripped straight from Grand Theft Auto. Whilst it’s clear the inspiration comes from the top-down crime fests of the PS One era, you’d think some things would have improved since then.

Evading the police (which are essentially soldiers on horses with sirens attached) is more difficult. I found the only way to do so was by riding through the ‘Pimp-a-Horse’ stables and not by trying to dodge them in the streets in the hopes they would lose my scent. It was difficult to do so, and when one of the earliest missions is to steal a horse right from under the guards’ noses, you can imagine my frustrations at how the whole system seemed to implode on itself. Once I stole the horse, a couple of guards descended on me, and I found it difficult to try and fight them off with my sword.

Rustler (Grand Theft Horse) Gameplay

I ended up trying to just steal the horse without engaging in combat, but once I jumped on the horse and tried to race away, it took much longer than I’d care to admit. Another glaring issue is the checkpointing system. I finally finished the mission, only to be sent right back to the beginning of said mission after dying in a completely different one. If I’m to endure clunky controls, I’d have hoped that my progression would be rewarded with the option to save more frequently.

Despite my issues with the controls, Rustler is a lovely looking game. The grimy dwellings of the town feel like a top-down version of the classic BBC kids show, Maid Marion and Her Merry Men (a welcoming reference to those over 35 years old, I hope). Whilst it does look nice, there are other features feel as though unnecessarily vulgar. Buildings are covered in obscene graffiti, and there’s a lot of dick and fart humour that’ll either appeal to your childish side or make you roll your eyes. The protagonist is a drunken lout, and his conversations with others sound as though he’s gibbering after ten pints of Stella. There’re some stylistic choices that you’ll like, but there will be many that you won’t get on board with. For me, it was the latter.

Rustler won’t appeal to everyone, and although I wasn’t hugely impressed with the hours I spent with it, I would like to play more. If Jutsu Games can refine the controls, I’d happily play more of it. Not only does the gameplay need sorting, so does the checkpointing. As long as these issues can be fixed during the Early Access period, I can see it appealing to a larger group of people. It would be wise for Rustler to focus less on trying to be a GTA homage, and more on being its own game.

The post Valheim feels like a “grown-up” survival game appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

One of the best things about Valheim is that it it doesn’t hold your hand, but doesn’t leave you floundering in the dark, either. Although it does leave you stranded in the woods, quite literally, with nothing but your bare hands and some talking ravens for company.

The biggest difference between Valheim and other survival games I’ve played is that it’s not a slog. Remember your first hour in Ark, back in the day? Punching rocks and trees with your fists and trying to make sense of what was going on? Well, maybe partly because of time spent in other games, by the end of my first hour in Valheim I already had a crude dwelling, a cooking station, weaponry and clothing.

And you need to progress fairly quickly, because Valheim pits you not just against the elements and the creatures lurking in the procedurally-generated forest, but against huge mythological beasts that stalk the islands. Periodically, they will hurl the animals and monsters against you, and you’ll need to defend yourself, which creates a loop of desperate fighting and grateful looting as you gather up resources from your slain foes to help improve your gear or habitat.

Valheim

Like other survival games though, Valheim is an uphill battle – it’s just not one that seems constantly stacked against you. There’s something relaxing and bizarrely satisfying about cooking meat you killed on a fire you made in a hut you built, then going for a wander in the early morning to gather up stone and wood and hunt your next lunch.

The build menu needs some work though. Even using mouse and keyboard, I struggled with the precision and placement of certain tiles, and it’s simply not fully optimised for controller yet. The buttons are all over the place and re-assigning them is not as straightforward as it should be. It took me several attempts to get the walls of my hut up and the basic tutorial left me confounded as to how to even place certain components of the building. I got there in the end, though.

Small points of interest litter the starting areas, from standing stones and burned out old dwellings that suggest someone else was here before and either moved on or got stomped by something nasty. Your own central area is equipped with towering monoliths on which to display trophies and offer sacrifices to the gods and spirits of the world, in order to boost your chances of survival.

Valheim

Despite the low-resolution and low-maintenance graphics, there’s a certain charm to a lot of Valheim, but a little more detail and polish on the visuals would go a long way. It’s not exactly “ugly”, but it’s certainly not a pretty or overly colourful game, and it can be difficult to spot wildlife or items of interest against the washed-out terrain. That said, it doesn’t take long to get used to it, or to the janky combat and movement animations.

On the surface, Valheim looks more or less the same as any other survival game of the last five or so years, but the way it pits you immediately against an unbeatable foe and demands that you get stronger or eventually die a weakling gives even the early game some much-needed impetus. It also rewards every stone you overturn, every tree you cut down, and every tiny advancement you make. Once you have a crafting table and work station you’ll be developing new items and tools in quick succession, and the bolder you grow, the further you’ll travel.

Perhaps the most appealing aspect to me is that you can disable PvP completely and suffer no adverse consequences. It’s there if you want it, but you aren’t constantly forced into it with griefers as you are in Ark and Rust. Instead, you have a button you can toggle in the menu that either allows you to fight and be fought, or blocks it. This has already led to the creation of PvP arenas, spaces designed by players using the in-game tools, where they can go to specifically and exclusively partake in PvP. It also means that if you want to be left alone to do your own thing, or just want to play alongside others to build a cooperative community, you can.

Valheim

Having hit 2 million downloads on Steam in early access, Valheim is almost certainly going to stick around and get bigger and better. If Iron Gate AB stick to their current ethos of delivering faster-paced survival with the true freedom of opt-in PvP and community spirit, this could one day be the biggest survival game available. And considering the size of some of the current dominators, that’s no mean feat.

Valheim, the new open world survival exploration game from Coffee Stain Publishing, the team behind Deep Rock Galactic and Goat Simulator, and Iron Gate Studio, is coming to Steam Early Access on February 2. The co-op adventure sees players explore a vast procedurally generated world inspired by Norse mythology and viking culture.

Players will be tasked with “taking back the realm from the ancient enemies of Odin, building mead halls and castles, crafting weapons and armour, and sailing the seas in search of new horizons.” You’ll be invited to explore lush forests, snow-topped mountains, and mysterious meadows, presented in striking lo-fi graphics.

There are tons of weapons, with combat that offers dodge and block mechanics, base and ship building, intuitive item crafting, all on dedicated servers. Perhaps the coolest thing about Valheim is the option to play with up to nine friends.

“Valheim is really tough. You will die, a lot. Your friends will die, a lot. But we hope we’ve managed to strike that balance between being needlessly brutal, and offering a rewarding and challenging experience,” said Richard Svensson, CEO, Iron Gate Studio. “The world we’ve created is huge and varied, and there’s room for so much more. We’re happy to welcome new players to our community and work together during Early Access.”

“Whilst in beta, Valheim has already started to build a loyal and engaged community which is important for us as a publisher,” said Albert Säfström, CEO, Coffee Stain Publishing. “Exploring the world of Valheim feels like being outside, rather than being in a virtual world. When many of us are stuck inside, meeting people virtually, this is such a breath of fresh air, and exactly what we need right now.”

Valheim will launch on Steam Early Access for PC and Linux on February 2nd, but you can add it to your wishlist now.

Seacorp Technologies has today announced that the physics-based racer Kinetic Edge will be releasing February 5 on Steam for PC. The game sees you control a variety of shapes and objects to complete multiple game modes and challenges in single-player and multiplayer.

Kinetic Edge is a compendium of different games but, in truth, all have the same core: It’s like crazy golf meets Tron,” says founder Richard Seabrook. “The game finds that brilliant sweet spot between being a perfect package of fun for those wanting to play with their friends, but also serving as an addictive set of challenges for single players as well.”

Kinetic Edge will have many features including:

 • Kinetic Race – Race with friends to get the best time or against others online.
 • Kinetic Arena – Knockout other players to make them lose points and stay in the green zone for maximum points gain.
 • Kinetic Survival – Increasingly difficult challenges knocking out players, last to remain wins.
 • Kinetic Golf – A physics crazy golf game you can play with friends.
 • Kinetic Maze – A procedurally generated level that constantly changes. Currently, there are three types of maze varying in size; 10×10 20×20 and 50×50. Maze’s are colour coded and have a distance meter to help out but you will have to navigate it to find the exit. Be sure not to follow the wrong friend because they can lead you to a dead-end!
 • Kinetic Gauntlet Single-Player & Multi-Player – Can you complete the gauntlet? Seven minutes, one life, and no checkpoints. The Gauntlet is a super hard level that will test your abilities to the max within Kinetic Edge. Gauntlet also comes with Gauntlet training mode with multiple checkpoints and a slower pace for you to practice before the real deal.

There will be more announcements over the next month regarding new modes and features, but for now you can check out the brand new trailer here:

The Relic Subclass brings a revamp to the Relics system, and is the last major Early Access update prior to the official launch that is expected later this year. The new update adds another dimension to character building by introducing a new and improved Relics system including a vast Relic skill tree, along with five powerful Relics, each with their own reworked Relic Activation skills.

In addition, the update also includes additional skill slots bringing the total to nine, all with controller support. This has been one of the most requested features from the Early Access community for Torchlight III.

“When we first launched Torchlight III into Steam Early Access, we received great constructive feedback pertaining to skills, more specifically Relic system skills” said Max Schaefer, CEO of Echtra Games and co-founder of the Torchlight series “To make the most accessible and exciting Torchlight adventure yet for all ARPG fans, we’ve been working closely with the community to learn exactly how they’d like their adventure to be expanded on. The Relic Subclass update is a prime example of just that — as it delivers incredible base gameplay improvements that make hacking and slashing goblins even more fun than ever before.”

The new Relics systems adds a number of options for character-building to fit player’s individual playstyles. After selecting a class, players can choose their own unique Relic that has a powerful subset of both active and passive skills. There are five Relics to choose from, which have their own elemental associations and strengths. Once a Relic has been chosen it remains a permanent part of a character’s build.

You can find out more about the Relic Subclass update via the official developer blog on the Steam page.

Torchlight III is expected to launch later this year and is the successor to Torchlight I and Torchlight II. It will launch on PC and consoles.

There’s exciting news for fans of platformers with an evil difficulty level, with OkunoKA Madness announced and releasing this September. The masocore amongst you may remember the original OkunoKA, and now it’s back with new levels and more challenge than ever on PS4, Switch, Xbox One and Steam.

“Ignition Publishing and Italian developer Caracal Games are proud to announce OkunoKA Madness, an evolution of the original masocore platformer OkunoKA, complete with new levels, bosses, features and challenges!

With a distinct hand-drawn visual style, OkunoKA Madness evolves the original game’s blend of challenging platforming speedrunning and once again sees you play as KA, a diminutive blue creature who sets out on a journey to save the world of souls from evil, in as stylish and fast a fashion as possible.

Built from the ground up for speedrunners, OkunoKA Madness lets you play the way you want, as fast as you want. Offering three different speedrunning modes: across all worlds, single levels, or custom level selection, you’ll have complete freedom to challenge your reflexes and beat the clock. With fully customisable global and local leaderboards, challenge your friends to beat your best times across more than 100 levels, or even the world!”

After playing the entirity of Celeste at the start of the year, I’m in desperate need of more hard as nails platforming. I’m all in to die again and again on September 8th.

Fans of horrific demons and tactical gameplay have something to look forward to next month, as Othercide releases July 28th on PC and console. Focus Home Interactive and Lightbulb Crew dropped this jaw dropping release date trailer today, which is a must watch.

“Descend into Humanity’s last hope. The Daughters, echoes of the greatest warrior to ever live, are all who stand before Suffering and death. Lead your army to battle with all the skill you can muster. Your prowess in combat will decide their fate, shape their abilities and personality. Make the toughest decision and sacrifice one to heal another – survivors will get stronger, ready to fight the next battle.”

Combat is an intricate dance of spectacular actions and counters: plan ahead of time and set up impressive chains of abilities to outsmart the enemy using the Dynamic Timeline System. Fight in epic boss battles against the sources of Suffering – dread creatures pulled from the worst of Humanity’s crimes against itself.”

There have been a lot of great strategy games in recent months (Desperados III and Gears Tactics have surpassed all expectations) but none are quite as breathtakingly gorgeous as Othercide looks. Horror and tactical RPG gameplay don’t often mix, abd I can’t wait to try the game for myself this July.

If draining the world of all of its natural resources has always been a dream of yours, factory builder Satisfactory is coming to Steam on June 8th. Packed with building, bouncing and befriending aliens, Satisfactory looks like it will satisfy many gaming itches.

“- Developed by the same team behind Goat Simulator and Sanctum, Satisfactory was first revealed in 2018 and went into Early Access exclusively on the Epic Games Store last year

– The game is set on a beautiful alien planet and encourages players to construct multi-storey factories to harvest the world’s natural resources for megacorporation, FICSIT Inc

– Satisfactory combines construction, automation, exploration and a dash of combat. Players must optimise their factories, streamlining production for the greedy corporation all while encountering hostile alien lifeforms or making new friends with little lizard doggos”

After publishing the superb Huntdown this month, I’m interested to see more of Coffee Stain Studios own game next week. The industrial setting is definitely intriguing, and building a Nuclear Power Station and living my best Mr Burns fantasies is all I’ve ever wanted.

Indie developer Nimble Giant Entertainment has announced their time paradox multiplayer shooter, Quantum League, is heading to Steam Early Access. PC players will be able to give it a go from May 26.

Quantum League is described as a time-paradox shooter. Players battle online in a time loop and team up with their past and future selves in 1v1 and 2v2 matches. This means that as well trying to take out your opponent you need to remember where you were and where you want to be. Time travel can be confusing but the recruitment trailer, which can be found below, should clear things up.

“With Quantum League, we’re aiming to bring real innovation in the online shooter genre. The Beta has given us some great community feedback and now we’re ready for the game to enter Early Access.” Said Balthazar Auger, Lead Game Designer at Nimble Giant. Andrés Chilkowski, the studio’s Chief Creative officer added: “Delivering on such a unique concept as a Multiplayer FPS with real time travel Mechanics was a huge undertaking for our studio and we could not be more proud of what our team has achieved. What started as an experimental project is now a solid multiplayer shooter, offering great amounts of player expression and strategic depth. Early access is just a new beginning, we can’t wait to continue discovering the amazing possibilities behind these mechanics alongside our players”.

The post 2K announce XCOM: Chimera Squad, coming to PC April 24 appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Today, 2K and Firaxis have announced that a brand new standalone XCOM game, XCOM: Chimera Squad, is coming to PC on April 24, 2020. What’s even better, the game will be available for £8.50 upon release, up until 10am PDT on May 7, 2020, but check Steam for more details. From May 1, it will be sold at its RRP of £16.99, however, the limited-time reduction will still be available until the date mentioned..

The official synopsis for the game reads:

Set five years after the events of XCOM 2, humans, hybrids and aliens are now working together to forge a civilisation of cooperation and co-existence. However, not all of Earth’s inhabitants support the interspecies alliance. City 31, a model of peace in a post-invasion world, is opposed by mysterious groups whose agendas threaten to shatter this delicate interspecies alliance. Chimera Squad, an elite force of human, hybrid and alien agents, must work together to destroy the underground threats driving the city toward chaos.

“We’re inspired by our passionate community and excited by the opportunity to create a dynamic, innovative, and unique XCOM experience for both fans of our games and new players in XCOM: Chimera Squad,” said Steve Martin, President at Firaxis Games.

“With XCOM: Chimera Squad, we felt there were exciting gameplay opportunities yet to be discovered within the XCOM universe,” said Mark Nauta, Lead Designer at Firaxis Games. “Gameplay like Breach Mode, interleaved turn order, and the introduction of agents as fully fleshed-out characters will revolutionize how the game plays while still retaining the combat experience that makes the XCOM series so loved by gaming communities around the world.”

“We know fans have been eager to dive back into the world of XCOM,” said Melissa Bell, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Marketing at 2K. “XCOM: Chimera Squad offers tremendous value and we’re intentionally lowering the barriers of entry for new fans to the franchise with a game XCOM veterans will really enjoy.”

XCOM: Chimera Squad has plenty of cool features, and it looks like it could be a fantastic follow-up to the hugely successful XCOM 2. There’ll be unique Alien and Human agents, the new Breach Mode, Specialised and Complimentary Classes, and more. The new features are detailed more below:

• Unique Alien and Human Agents: Each of the 11 agents have their own distinct personality and tactical abilities, including species-specific attacks like the Viper’s tongue pull;
• Specialised and Complementary Classes: Execute devastating combos by teaming the right agents and utilising cooperative actions. The difference between mission success and failure can depend wholly on team composition;
• Re-Envisioned Tactical Combat: Missions are structured as a series of discrete, explosive encounters, keeping the action intense and unpredictable;
• Breach Mode: Players will shape the battlefield to their advantage with a new combat phase that injects squads right into action. They will strategically assign agents to different entry points and coordinate their assault plans with a range of Breach-specific skills;
• Interleaved Turns: An automatic initiative system will slot individual agents and enemies into an alternating turn order, creating new strategic possibilities based on what unit is queued to act next – and what unit is at the greatest risk when they do so;
• Suspenseful Strategy Layer: Outside of combat, players will manage the operations of a high-tech HQ, where they must prioritise competing tasks, investigations and agent assignments in the face of a ticking clock: the constantly rising unrest in the city’s various districts, driving City 31 closer and closer to total anarchy.

If you’re looking to keep up to date with all things XCOM, you can visit the official site, head over to their Facebook page, subscribe to their YouTube channel, or follow them on Twitter and use the hashtag #XCOM.

Finally, if you’re now incredibly hyped for the release, why not watch the official reveal trailer below:

Headup, and dev Silent Dreams, has announced that Dead Age 2 will be released on June 3 this year. It’ll be heading to Early Access for PC on Steam and GOG.

Dead Age blends survival, management, role play and elements of roguelike gameplay and turn based combat. So plenty going on. There will also be a new story of human survival after the world has been wrecked by a zombie onslaught. The combat situations, however, can result in permanent death or the chance to gather resources. This along with various decision making will get you to one of six unique endings as you try to survive against the walking dead.

Dead Age 2 does come with some new features compared to its predecessor. Including the new story it also has a free to explore open world map, new vehicles, advanced combat system and a new upgradable 3D base.

If you fancy having a look at things you can find an announcement trailer just below this.

If you enjoy your platforming randomly generated then you’re in luck, as Roguelike platformer Fury Unleashed is launching on console May 8th. It will also be leaving Steam early access the same day.

“Fury Unleashed combines design elements of modern roguelites (like Dead Cells and Rogue Legacy) with aesthetics and gameplay of classic platformer shooters (like Metal Slug and Contra). All that is built around the concept of playing through the pages of a comic book and telling the story of its author.”

There’s also a demo available on all formats right now, so if you need convincing it may be worth a download. I absolutely love a good Roguelike Platformer mashup, so as a Spelunky mega fan I’ll certainly be giving this a try.

If surviving an apocalyptic situation doesn’t hit too close to home right now, then on March 26th the Nomadic MMO Last Oasis comes to early access.

“Last Oasis is set on a post-apocalyptic Earth thousands of years in the future, after a cataclysmic event has halted the planet’s rotation and plunged it into two extreme environments. Now, only one habitable strip of land remains between razor sharp ice and arid desert wasteland, ever moving, as the planet rotates around the sun. To stay alive, the remnants of humanity have built a large waking city, Flotilla, from which they must send unwilling nomads into the passing oases to gather necessary resources to keep the city moving. Not many return alive.”

Open world survival games need to be something special to grab gamers’ attention nowadays, hopefully Last Oasis has a unique enough setting to do just that.

Six months after its initial exclusive release on the Epic Games Store, Borderlands 3 on PC has finally made its way to Steam.

It’s coming in at a low price for early adopters, too. The standard edition is down to £24.99 (will normally be £49.99), with the Digital Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions coming in at £32.49 (normally £64.99) and £42.49 (normally £84.99) respectively. These introductory prices will only last until March 20th.

Additionally, from now until April 1st 2020, the Gold Weapons Skin Pack can be grabbed for free on Steam.

Finally, new Steam players will be able to play alongside their Epic Games Launcher friends via never-before-seen cross-play functionality. All thanks to SHiFT matchmaking, players will be able to add each other to friends lists, join co-op parties and generally play together online. Future plans also involve the ability to send weapons between PC formats.

Borderlands 3 is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC – now via both the Epic Games Store and Steam.

It’s been a busy time for Borderlands 3 at PAX East, as two big announcements were made today. Firstly, it’ll be releasing on Steam March 13, 2020, and will include PC crossplay with the Epic Games Launcher. Secondly, the second campaign add-on, ‘Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock’, is launching March 26, 2020 across all platforms.

The announcements were made during the Gearbox Main Theater Show at PAX East earlier today, along with information regarding content coming to Borderlands 3 over the coming months. Thanks to some new SHiFT matchmaking functionality, crossplay between Steam and Epic Games launcher will be possible, with various features being adding the following weeks after its launch. As for the new campaign, the story follows Sir Alistair Hammerlock and Wainwright Jakobs and their engagement, and what better way to celebrate than on the icey planet of Xylourgos? The party is being held on Cursehaven, an eerie town located beneath the carcass of a dead Vault Monster.

A group of weird occultists who worship the carcass really want to break up proceedings, leaving you to fight against them and the evil they worship. Hammerlock and Wainwright’s wedding planner Gaige – a fugitive vault hunter – returns to help you in your assault. There’s dangerous enemies and bosses including alien beasts and hideously mutated occultists, interesting backstories of the cursed townfolk, new gear, weapns, and cosmetics, and more. Guns, Love, and Tentacles is included in the Borderlands 3 Season Pass and Super Deluxe Edition, and you can watch the trailer here:

Along with the two big announcements, concept art from the third campaign add-on was released, and you can see it here, and it’ll include dinosaurs and outlaws! All the free updates coming in the spring were outlined in a new content roadmap, starting with Mayhem Mode 2.0 in April, and the Revenge of the Cartels seasonal event.

In May, the second Takedown arrives to Borderlands 3. Similar to Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite – which released last November – the Guardian Takedown will offer some of the most challenging content in the game. This intense standalone mission will be themed after the mysterious Eridians and will feature new bosses and new gear and cosmetics as well. The difficulty will scale to the size of the player party by default. However, if you want to experience the Takedown in its true form, you can select “True Takedown Mode,” which tunes the difficulty for a party of four fully leveled-up Vault Hunters regardless of party size.

There will be more info released soon, including what will be coming towards the later parts of 2020. You can catch the full PAX East panel on Bordelands’ Twitch Channel, which includes a chat with Studio Head Randy Pitchford, as well as Eli Roth, the newly-appointed director of the upcoming Borderlands movie, currently in development with Lionsgate and Arad Productions.

Pearl Abyss, the developers behind MMO Black Desert have announced that its new arena fighter Shadow Arena will be available to play through a beta test from 27 February until 8 March.

Shadow Arena is Pearl Abyss’ take on the popular Battle Royale genre. It pits 40 players against one another in a ruthless competition to be the last person standing on the battlefield.

There will be nine playable characters in the beta, with each having their own fighting style. To be the final player left standing you will need to hunt monsters and collect loot to upgrade your gear and gain buffs.

Originally a game within Black Desert, Shadow Arena has evolved to be its own stand-alone game. It does draw from Black Desert, but will have its own style, drawing from MOBA, Battle Royale and MMO genres to create an arena fighter.

Shadow Arena will have two gameplay modes: solo and team. Solo will be more focused on individual skill, while team is expected to encourage more strategic gameplay.

It will feature multi-language support including: English, German, Spanish, French, Russian, Polish, Turkish, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Indonesian, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

Launch is expected in the first half of 2020 for PC, with console release later on.

You can sign up for the beta here.

ZA/UM has announced today its role-playing game, Disco Elysium has been updated to include a Hardcore Mode. Additionally, it is also now available to play on Steam with widescreen support. But what can fans or newcomers expect from the Disco Elysium Hardcore Mode? Check out the official list below to see what’s included:

You will fail more – The difficulty of every Check goes up, bringing down your chances of success. Solving this case without being a Total Disaster Cop is even harder than normal.

You’re going to be poorer – You’ll have even less money, meaning there’s less for you to pick up. Better get used to picking up every scrap you can find…

Prices have gone up – Pharmaceutical prices have gone up, which means failing costs you even more and they don’t heal you as much.

You’ll need to turn to the hard stuff – Booze and cigarettes are going to help you a lot, sweet ciggys clearing your head and extra drink to build courage will become more of a necessity on this playthrough.

Most treasured possessions – The few possessions you do have become more important, make sure to treasure what you have!

You’ll have to think more carefully – The Thought Cabinet debuffs are more painful when you’re already liable to fail. One the flip side, the bonuses thoughts offer might push you down paths you wouldn’t otherwise take.

You’ll level up faster – Failing builds character. You’ll gain extra token amounts of XP every time you finish a task and you’ll level faster and higher, if only marginally.

If that has piqued your interest, then check out the trailer below to see the game in action:

If you needed even more reason to try Disco Elysium, there’s now 20% off the main game as part of the Steam Lunar New Year sale. You can also get 20% off the DLC, which includes the game Soundtrack and Artbook too.

Disco Elysium is out now on PC.

White Smoke Games has today announced their brand new game Super Chicken Catchers will be making its way onto Steam on February 18, 2020. The game focuses around the sport of Cluckball – a 2v2 futuristic sport involving chickens, aliens, and flying pigs.

Players must work together as rider and mount, acting in unison if they want to defeat their opponent. It’s a vibrant, fast-paced game that looks a lot like the N64 games of old, bringing the art of competition to the forefront.

“Since the very beginning of this adventure, we wanted to create a different kind of sports game focused on cooperation and communication in an off-beat universe,” said Florent Leger, CEO at White Smoke Games. “After a lot of blood, sweat, and pixels, we are proud of what we achieved and hope that the community will enjoy playing it like our early chicken catchers did!”
