NACON has taken the opportunity to reveal the EVOL-X, a brand new licensed Xbox controller, during Bigben Week 2023.

The EVOL-X is Microsoft-certified, as you’d expect, and is designed to be “easy to use, comfortable and durable, it is ideal for players looking for a heavy-duty, high-performing controller”, according to NACON. The new controller is also available in six colours (white, black, silver, transparent with LEDs, metallic blue, metallic red) and will retail for €34.99 when it’s released in September 2023.

Here’s the feature list:

  • Four vibration motors (two in the triggers and two in the grips) so players can feel the
game’s sensations right in their hands
  • Wired USB connection with 3m detachable cable for playing at a comfortable distance from
    the screen
  • A reinforced 3.5mm jack for optimal durability
  • A non-slip surface for optimal grip and comfort during long gaming sessions
  • Larger action buttons to increase ease of use and comfort
  • Concave stick heads to fit thumbs and improve handling

New licensed Xbox controller, EVOL-X announced by NACON

NACON says that part of this new EVOL-X is building on what the company has done with the Revolution X (a premium controller released in 2021 that’s more like an Elite or DualSense Edge style controller, with back paddles, etc), and that “the EVOL-X offers everything gamers need in a controller for an affordable price”.

We’re actually having a look at some of NACON’s peripherals right now, so stay tuned for the full reviews of them, but I will say out of the gate that the RIG 800 Pro headset is already very impressive on PC, with the Dolby Atmos ability, but also thanks to how comfortable the thing is. We’ll be looking at that, the Revolution X, and one of NACON’s fightsticks, pretty soon.

If you’re wondering why it was announced during Bigben week, well that’s because NACON was founded in 2019 as part of the Bigben group, and the NACON brand is used for games as well as peripherals.

Ubisoft has announced that the long-awaited arrival of Ubisoft Plus on Xbox Series S|X and Xbox One is here, with the service launching today, bringing together a lot of the different Ubisoft services, technically via one single subscription, sort of.

First of all, let’s explain: Ubisoft Plus on Xbox means you can get the latest Ubisoft-published titles (including DLC, and classic games) to Xbox platforms, as well as a ten percent discount on anything you spend on in-game currencies. That said, this is not part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in the same way that EA’s plan is. If you do subscribe you’ll need to link your Xbox account to Ubisoft Plus Multi Access, and then you’ll get access to the premium or special editions of games when they come out.

“Partnering with Xbox to launch Ubisoft Plus Multi Access on Xbox consoles enhances our subscription offering to provide more value and choice to our players”, said Chris Early, Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development at Ubisoft. “Xbox console players can now have unbridled access to discover our worlds through Ubisoft’s extensive game library”.

“Like us, Ubisoft strives to bring more games to more people, and today we’re accelerating that effort together”, said Sarah Bond, Corporate Vice President of Creator Experience and Ecosystem at Microsoft. “By launching Ubisoft+ on Xbox, we’re presenting Xbox console players another vibrant catalogue to explore by subscription”.

The base price for Ubisoft Plus Multi Access is £12.99 a month, which will get you games like Far Cry 6 or Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and the option to play on PC, Cloud, or console. You can check out the full list of titles, which includes The Division 2, Anno 1800, Riders Republic, and more than 100 titles total on the official site, here.

Xbox announces Remix Special Edition Wireless Controller https://www.godisageek.com/2023/04/xbox-announces-remix-special-edition-wireless-controller/ Tue, 04 Apr 2023 15:30:46 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=275964 Earth Day Pad.

The post Xbox announces Remix Special Edition Wireless Controller appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Microsoft is ready to celebrate Earth Day in style, and has announced another new Xbox Wireless Controller, the Remix Special Edition. We say “another” because this is the third in as many weeks, after the Tartan inspired Xbox Controller (and fashion collection), the officially licensed Thrustmaster Forza Horizon 5 pad, and the red and blue Elite Series 2 controllers: but hey, too much choice is never a bad thing, right?

This new pad, however, includes a rechargeable battery pack, so you don’t have to worry about double-A batteries any more. It launches on April 18th, and will cost £74.99. Perhaps more importantly, and why it’s linked in with the Earth Day celebrations, Xbox says that it features “recovered plastics with one-third of it being made from regrind and reclaimed materials”.

Xbox adds that “each Remix Special Controller is made with post-consumer recycled resins (PCR) and previously moulded coloured parts from leftover Xbox One generation controllers – allowing each controller to have its own look and feel with earth-tone colours with subtle variations, markings, and texturing”.

Daniel Ruiz, Senior Marketing Manager, Xbox Accessories explained that the team “drew inspiration from natural landscapes and the physical world around us when designing the Remix Special Edition controller. The various earth-tone colours create a patchwork effect , featuring bright pops of color that create a vibrant yet serene vibe. The bright green Xbox button, D-pad, and front case colour are inspired by lichen found in the Pacific Northwest Forest. The bumpers, triggers, and side grip areas feature a topographic texture pattern, a nod to the earth’s dynamic landscape, while maintaining the tactility that our customers like”.

This isn’t the first effort towards sustainability that Microsoft and Xbox has revealed, either. The Xbox Series S|X also makes an attempt at using carbon aware game downloads and energy saving power modes, as well as an “active hours” setting to help finds ways to make everyone’s carbon footprint a small bit better. Elsewhere, Mojang is using Minecraft to help aid students learn about sustainability, as well.

]]>

Microsoft has promised to show off the “ultra-limited handcrafted tartan-covered” Xbox Controller as part of the Tartan exhibition opening on April 1st, which has also inspired a full fashion collection created by Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers.

It’s already been a very busy week Xbox Controller wise, as we’ve just had the announcement of the red and blue colours Elite Series 2s, and even an officially licensed Thrustmaster made Forza Horizon 5 Xbox Controller. And, on top of that, this isn’t even the only “wearable” gaming news today, as we’ve also had the announcement of a Death Stranding clothing line. Phew!

The controller was originally revealed nearly a year ago, via the video you can see below:

Anyway, the V&A Dundee’s Tartan Exhibition is running until January 2024, and presents a radical new look at a globally recognised design and brings together many different voices from around the world”, says Xbox. The press release explains that “more than 300 objects illustrate tartan’s universal and enduring appeal with examples of fashion, architecture, graphic and product design, photography, furniture, glass and ceramics, film, performance and art”, and of course, that includes Xbox, who’ve partnered with Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers (as mentioned above) as well as weavers, Lochcarron.

This design is an innovative example of weaving, using only single green, white and black threads to create a digital pixelated effect for the tartan sett which echoes the internationally famous shades used for the Xbox console, controllers, and logo since its inception.

Following Xbox’s first collaboration with Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers in 2022, which produced the ultra-limited handmade controller, the partnership has expanded to include the official Xbox tartan through an Xbox Tartan Edit. It features a range of fashion, lifestyle, home accessories and limited made-to-order kilts, trews and waistcoats are all available exclusively at Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers website.

Gordon Nicolson, Lead Product Developer & Tartan Designer explained: “I was honoured to be asked to design a tartan for such an iconic brand, the tartan was technically challenging as it required a very small sett so that it could be seen on the controller.”

Graeme Boyd, Xbox EMEA Social Media Marketing Manager added, ”

“We are so pleased that we can continue to celebrate Scotland’s heritage in a fun, authentic way with our official tartan. It was awesome to see the positive response last year when welaunched the tartan, so we thought it made perfect sense to continue the relationship with GNK and create more products that our audience will love. It’s been thrilling to see the fashion collection take shape and see the controller feature in the V&A Dundee’s Tartan exhibition. We can’t wait to see what fans think of the collab.”

Microsoft said that fans should keep an eye on the official UK Twitter account “for a chance to get their hands on the ultra-limited Xbox controller”.

Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate have today announced that hugely popular survival game Valheim is now available for Xbox consoles, as well as launching day one in Xbox Game Pass.

This means that after well over a year in early access for PC (it launched on 2nd February 2021), Xbox players can now get to see what all the fuss is about, though it’s worth noting the game isn’t “finished” and is still in the preview program on Xbox consoles.

The Xbox version has been ported by an external team at Fishlabs with crossplay features by Piktiv (both studios also worked on the Windows Store version), and you can check out the trailer below:

The team says that “Valheim’s arrival to Xbox consoles also introduces a new controller layout that offers an intuitive and natural gameplay experience”. Here’s the official word on the Xbox version:

While the Iron Gate team were hard at work on Valheim’s recently released Mistlands update, featuring its new magical biome, the Xbox port has been developed by an external team at Fishlabs with crossplay features by Piktiv, both of which worked on the Microsoft Store version as well.

Valheim hit PC Early Access in February 2021 to immediate and widespread critical acclaim, as it quickly rose up bestseller lists and won the Best Debut and Audience Choice awards at the Game Developers Choice Awards. Since then, the game has seen two major content updates, Hearth and Home and Mistlands, and additional minor content drops fleshing out the existing biomes in between.

We have been playing the PC version for a while, and back in February 2022, Mick said it feels like a “grown up survival game”, adding “Having hit 2 million downloads on Steam in early access, Valheim is almost certainly going to stick around and get bigger and better. If Iron Gate AB stick to their current ethos of delivering faster-paced survival with the true freedom of opt-in PvP and community spirit, this could one day be the biggest survival game available. And considering the size of some of the current dominators, that’s no mean feat”.

Valheim is out now on PC (Steam, Windows Store) and on Xbox Game Pass.

Naraka: Bladepoint and Nier crossover announced https://www.godisageek.com/2022/12/naraka-bladepoint-and-nier-crossover-announced/ Wed, 14 Dec 2022 12:00:15 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=271352 Naraka Fest 2022 delivers loads of new updates.

The post Naraka: Bladepoint and Nier crossover announced appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

At Naraka Fest 2022, 24 Entertainment has announced a whole host of content for Naraka: Bladepoint, including a Nier crossover, and much more. This is all ahead of this week’s World Championship finals that are happening in Singapore, and there really is a lot of content coming down the pike for Naraka: Bladepoint.

First up is the new weapon, the “Pole Staff”. Following the recent addition of NARAKA’s Shaolin-inspired Staff, another new weapon type is on the way. Looking to expand the game’s melee arsenal even further, 24 Entertainment plan to introduce the Pole Staff in February 2023. Heavy, yet powerful, and styled after the Chinese God of War, Guan Yu, its legendary Souljade can summon his mythic steed, Red Hare, ready for battle.

Next up, we’ve a new hero called Feria Shen. You can see her official information below:

Just as ferocious, we have our next confirmed playable hero for NARAKA: BLADEPOINT – Feria Shen. Adept in combat as a weapons master, she’s also a famed mech rider. In the heat of battle she can trigger her Ultimate to summon Trouble, a mech companion armed with a pair of devastating Swarm launchers, raining down fire on her enemies. Feria Shen will be available in-game later this month on December 22nd.

As well as all of this, 24 Entertainment has confirmed the game is also coming to Xbox One, and will launch on that system on December 22nd, also appearing in Game Pass alongside the Series S|X version that launched earlier this year. New content in the form of Showdown Chapter III is coming, which the developer says “will be arriving in January 2023, so squad up and get ready to brave the mountainous Yushan Ruins, where you’ll fight none other than Viper Ning’s own mother”.

As well as a new Tianhai Legandary Skin, the big news is a crossover between Naraka: Bladepoint and Nier Replicant and Nier Automata. The developer says it is proud to announce the “upcoming collaboration with Square Enix as Yoko Taro’s twisted universe bleeds into the popular multiplayer title. During this crossover event, expect exclusive new content inspired by characters and weapons from the world of NieR”, and plans to share more details of this collaboration with fans in future.

Naraka: Bladepoint is now for PC and Xbox Series S|X.

Angry Mob Games has revealed that 2D action RPG Trinity Fusion is coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X, and you can try it ahead of release thanks to a demo that’s available right now.

This news comes off the back of the PC closed beta, which is getting a second wave of invites today, as well. The demo is part of the Winter Game Fest, and you can see the Xbox trailer below.

Trinity Fusion is a game Mick recently previewed, and he liked it, saying: “At present, Trinity Fusion is very young. It’s lacking a lot of variety in terms of run-specific buffs, and its universe really needs context. That will all come with the full release I’m sure, but it doesn’t help in a closed beta. Perhaps most importantly though, is that it feels great to play. The characters move well, combat is relatively simple and there’s a ton of different weapons even at this stage.

It also looks gorgeous, the various stages reflecting strong, singular themes like a factory, a rocky tundra, and a cyberpunk alien city. Character design is striking and there’s a great selection of enemies, from huge alien beasts to deadly machines and robots. If nothing else, Trinity Fusion has my attention. It needs some work, but if Angry Mob stick the landing it could be a great addition to the genre”.

You can grab the demo and start it downloading via this link, but don’t wait too long as it’s only available until December 12th.

The hit PC title Vampire Survivors is coming to Xbox on November 10th, it has been announced, and it’ll even be part of Game Pass.

The Xbox port will contain all the new content and updates that were added to the PC version (Steam and Game Pass for PC) during Early Access.

“I started making Vampire Survivors to practise coding and would have not in a million years thought it would become such a hit. I can not thank the community enough for making development this fun!”, said poncle founder Luca Galante. “I’m very excited to see the game on console and for Xbox players to dive in and be the bullet hell!”.

We reviewed Vampire Survivors on PC, where Chris White said “Vampire Survivors is a basic yet addictive roguelike, with a surprising amount of depth in its mechanics. Taking on hordes of enemies does seem daunting at first, but when you’re unlocking new weapons and abilities to slay them all, it is when the game is at its best. I don’t really like to bring the cost into a review, but for just over £2, it makes it almost a crime not to try it out. It’s the perfect game to spend an hour or two on when you’re struggling to choose something, and will more than likely give you something to play when you’re in a funk”, and awarded the game an 8/10 score.

It’s worth noting, it also plays really nicely on Steam Deck as well, if you have one of those.

Anyway, on the Xbox version, the game will be available for $4,99 and also via Xbox Game Pass from 10th November. So there we have it.

Maximum Games has today announced that Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach is coming to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One this Autumn. Along with the physical release, a limited number of Collector’s Editions for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox will also be made available later this year to coincide with the PlayStation versions. It’s time to step back into the world of Freddy Fazbear once again, and hope that he doesn’t find you before the morning.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach is the next chapter in Freddy’s relentless pursuit of adults and children alike, taking place in the three-stories tall pizza parlor known as the Mega Pizza Plex. Players will once again be forced to survive a series of terrifying encounters with Freddy Fazbear and his murderous animatronic friends that’ll be roaming the floors of the pizza place during the dead of night.

Once night falls as the protocols are initiated, the animatronics come to life and will do whatever they can until everyone is dead. However, by accessing the building’s security cameras, players will be able to plan a route through all the danger, as well as using the environment to distract the enemies. No matter the strategy is, no path will be completely safe, so adapting to the danger is always something to think about.

Both funny and scary, it will introduce new characters, as well as allowing players to interact with the creepy af machines by utilising the latest animatronic technology. ]]>

After a week of 20th anniversary celebrations, Xbox has now announced Xbox cloud gaming is available on consoles.

You might be forgiven for wondering what this all means, but it’s a pretty cool idea that gives people who can’t afford the new Series S or Series X consoles a chance to play games on their current consoles via streaming.

Announced back at Gamescom 2021, this service means you could, in theory, stream a new-gen only Xbox game to your old Xbox One console. Here’s what Xbox says it means:

For Xbox One users, cloud gaming also allows you to play some next gen games on the Xbox One console you already own. This means select games that are currently only playable on Xbox Series X|S, like Recompile, The Medium, and The Riftbreaker, are now playable on your Xbox One with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and cloud gaming. We will also continue to support this capability and expand our cloud game library to include more next gen games like Microsoft Flight Simulator in early 2022.

Flight Simulator is one of the games that isn’t coming to Xbox One, so this offers a chance to play that. Likewise, The Riftbreaker and The Medium are new-gen games only, too. All three of these titles are also part of Game Pass, so it won’t cost you a penny to try them out.

All you have to do is look for the Cloud Gaming icon, and you can just start playing it right away. There’s no wait for a download, just direct access.

Did you know that the Xbox brand is coming up on 20 years old, and to celebrate that Xbox Anniversary, there’s going to be a live stream? Well, you do now.

Announced on the official Xbox Blog, it’s all going to be taking place on November 15th via Youtube, Twitch, and Facebook. The company is planning to celebrate some of the favourite moments from the last twenty years, and has been keen to tell people not to expect new game announcements at this Xbox Anniversary celebration stream.

With Halo Infinite due out in less than a month now, and Forza Horizon 5 being utterly incredibly, Xbox is getting back to doing what it does best: gaming. There was definitely a bit of a case of “the wilderness years” when Xbox was going hard after the TV and entertainment market. But now, with Game Pass being so successful, we’re starting to slowly see the fruits of the studio acquisitions and hardware power.

Here’s the details on the Xbox Anniversary Celebration

  • The celebration will air on Monday, November 15 at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. GMT
  • You can watch the broadcast on the official Xbox channel on YouTubeTwitch, or Facebook.
  • The easiest way to find your preferred language is to watch the broadcast on the official Xbox YouTube page at YouTube.com/Xbox and select the “gear” icon in the lower right corner to select your language.
  • You can also watch with American Sign Language (ASL) and Audio Descriptions (AD) in English on the official Xbox YouTube channel.

Tate Multimedia has announced that its motorbike platformer Steel Rats is available for free on Xbox and PC until April 4, 2021. Steel Rats is a dieselpunk title set in an alternative 1940’s American coastal city. You must save it from the deadly invasion of alien Junkbots.

From April 2, 2021 Steel Rats is available to play for free on Xbox One, and Steam. Find it on the Microsoft Store here or on Steam here.

See the Steel Rats trailer below:

Gary Bailey reviewed Steel Rats on PS4 and gave it a 7/10. He had this to say about the game:

Steel Rats is certainly an interesting prospect. With some decent platform gameplay mixed with inertia-driven vehicle movement, and it’s all played out to a stunning soundtrack. From the Blade Runner-esque menu music, to the hefty grunt of the bike engines, this is a game best played with headphones – or a nice speaker setup, if you have forgiving (or hard-of-hearing) neighbours. It’s an innovative game that tries something new, which does work the majority of the time. At worst, it’s a little awkward and frustrating, but at its best Steel Rats is a satisfying adventure that will keep you entertained for hours.

Steel Rats is out now on PC, Xbox One and PS4.

Today, developers Creepy Jar has announced their hyper-realistic and critically-acclaimed survival game Green Hell will be heading to Xbox One and PS4 this June. The game is set deep in the uncharted regions of the Amazon rainforest, challenging players to survive harsh environments with dangers lurking around every corner.

Green Hell arrived on PC in Steam Early Access all the way back in August 2018, with the full release dropping September 2019. Since it first arrived, over 1.5 million players have dived into the Amazon, with the developers added tons of improvements along the way, making Green Hell a robust and deep experience. A story mode, co-op challenges, and general improvements have all been included since the game launched, with Creepy Jar now hard at work to release a next-gen upgrade as well.

The key features of Green Hell include:

  • Survive the Amazon – Resource management, base building, crafting, hunting, wound inspection, sanity management, and more. Green Hell relentlessly puts players to the ultimate survival test in the remote reaches of the Amazon rainforest.

  • Story Mode – How did you end up in the Amazon? What happened to your love, Mia? How can you escape? How can you survive? Seeking answers to these questions will take you to the brink of sanity as you rediscover well-known areas and discover new areas for the first time.

  • Survive TOGETHER – Up to 4 players can tackle the rainforest together in the ultimate bid for survival! Whether it’s story mode or endless mode, you can look forward to pulling leeches from all your friends’ nether-parts and more in co-op mode!

  • And more! – Whether it’s custom modes, achievement chasing, tackling unique challenges, or building the best jungle hut south of the equator, Green Hell is a robust experience that continues to grow with each update from the Creepy Jar team.

To celebrate the announcement, a brand new trailer has been released, which you can watch below:

Double Eleven has today announced that their successful and often brutal competitive multiplayer survival game Rust is coming to PS4 and Xbox One this Spring. When the game arrives in a few months, players will be forced to survive against up to 100 other players, bears, wolves, and more. After waking up on a post-apocalyptic island, you must find shelter and clothes whilst surviving against the elements without any rules at all. This freedom will allow for moments of deception and aggression, but if you choose to work together with others, your chances of survival will be higher.

Since Rust launched all the way back in 2013 via Early Access on Steam, millions of players have taken part in the “ultimate social experiment.” UK-based Double Eleven has been working on developing the game for console, independently from Facepunch who developed the game for PC. To celebrate the announcement, a brand new trailer showing players what to expect has been revealed, and you can watch it below:

Nuketown ’84 makes its way to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War https://www.godisageek.com/2020/11/nuketown-84-makes-its-way-to-call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war/ Tue, 24 Nov 2020 16:47:26 +0000 https://www.godisageek.com/?p=244514 Because of course it is.

]]>

With the release of the excellent Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War came with it the promise of much more content down the line. This week marked the first with Nuketown ’84 – with some new weapons and double XP to celebrate.

Nuketown itself has been given a post-nuclear coat of paint with cracked buildings, DIY paths and plenty of fire. The trailer down below introduces it perfectly contrasting that psychedelic inspired art with the crumbling foundation around it. Not only this, there appear to be a few more changes made this time around with new paths for the RCXD and a clock tower counting down the map time.

The layout is ever so slightly different and is designed as a “sister site to the original nuketown” tweeted:

creative specialist Miles Leslie. This is done to fit that balance in years between the singleplayer in 1981 and the multiplayer in 1983. Making it the original Nuketwon might constrain it somewhat so this allowed them to get creative. Its been abandoned for over thirty years and the aesthetic shows that.

Moving from here, there are also 6 charms, an emblem, calling card, sticker and weapon blueprint available to current owners of the game. With the number of weapons already available in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and the time it might take you to unlock anything for the Huaer 77 shotgun, this is a welcome addition. Starting November 24th, double XP should get you there even faster.

As always, this map hides a sneaky easter egg too. Shoot the heads off all the mannequins for a nice surprise. Doing so activates a retro filter complete with a black and purple sky. You might want to keep an ear out for that addictive synthwave music too.

This is all available right now so hop in and get shooting.

]]>

If you’re feeling on the fence about getting into some Formula One racing, then you’re now in luck. There’s an F1 2020 trial available now, on both PS4 and Xbox One.

“Starting today, players on Xbox One and PlayStation® 4 can download a free trial of F1® 2020, the official videogame of the 2020 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™. Offering options to suit every style of play, the trial features My Team and the return of split-screen for competitive couch play. Plus, with the introduction of the new accessible handling, players of all levels can compete the moment they take to the starting line.

In the F1® 2020 My Team trial, players begin by creating their team, picking a Formula 2™ team mate to race alongside, and compete in the first race weekend in Australia. Split-screen racing at the Austrian Red Bull Ring and all casual handling mode options are also available. Should players decide to upgrade to the full game, progress made in the trial will be automatically carried over, alongside access to staple series inclusions such as Career, Time Trial, weekly events, classic car challenges, and online multiplayer.

“The F1® 2020 free trial offers something for every race fan with the inclusion of My Team, casual handling, and split-screen,” said Lee Mather, F1® Franchise Game Director at Codemasters. “Whether you’re an avid F1® fan who’s never played before, or you’re a returning veteran player, there’s plenty to enjoy.””

With plenty of options of how to play, racing game fans owe it to themselves to try out this trial. Our own Gary Bailey loved it earlier this year, so if you’re on the fence then trying it for yourself could be worth your time.

The post Yakuza: Like a Dragon launches everywhere but PS5 on November 10th appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

One of the most exciting games of the next generation now has a confirmed release date. Sega have announced that Yakuza: Like a Dragon launches on Xbox Series X, S, One, PC and PS4 on November 10th. The PS5 version of the game won’t be coming for some time though, with the release set for March 2nd if you want to play it on the white monolith.

“SEGA today has announced that its one-of-a kind RPG Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be launching on Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows 10 and Steam on November 10, 2020, aligning the release dates for all current-generation releases with the Xbox Series X | S launch date. As previously revealed, the Xbox Series X | S versions will offer a Smart Delivery upgrade path for Xbox One owners of the game.

SEGA is happy to announce that Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be launching on PlayStation®5 in the West on March 2, 2021, following the game’s PlayStation®4 launch on November 10, 2020. Once players purchase the digital PS4™ version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon at PlayStation®Store they are able to download the PS5™ version at no extra cost when it launches on March 2, 2021. The PS5™ version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon will also be available standalone on March 2, 2021 for $59.99, with commensurate pricing in EMEA.

An experience like no other, Yakuza: Like a Dragon brings dynamic RPG gameplay to the streets of Yokohama, Japan, with an epic adventure that combines the intense brawls, crushing drama, and over the top hilarity that the Yakuza series is known for. The game also features voice acting from a dynamic cast of actors, including George Takei, Kaiji Tang, Andrew Morgado, Greg Chun and Elizabeth Maxwell.”

After the huge purchase of Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax Media last week, this announcement is another feather in Microsoft’s cap going into the next generation. With so many big moves happening on the Xbox side, this generation is looking like it could be much more competitive than the last between the two companies.

This week in cowboy news, new Legendary Rams arrive in Red Dead Online. If you’re feeling the need to hunt a wooly foe, or fancy finding some fossils, this latest update could be worth you jumping into the Red Dead Redemption 2 multiplayer mode.

“This week brings new clothing, discounts and a Daily Challenge bonus to all, while a wide assortment of additions come to players on Xbox One, PC and Stadia.

There are three new varieties of Legendary Ram who’ve made their way to the Xbox One, PC and Stadia: the Gabbro Horn Ram, a black and white specimen seen traversing the dry terrain of Rio Bravo; the gray Chalk Horn Ram, spotted in the heights of the Grizzly Mountains, east of the Calumet Ravine; and the Rutile Horn Ram with its dark red horns, seen roaming both Rio Bravo and Cholla Springs. Visit Harriet to launch the Rutile Ram Sighting Mission and complete it to get a free Poncho of your choice.

Collectors can dig up three new Fossil Collections on Xbox One, PC and Stadia – Coastal, Oceanic and Megafauna alike – scattered and buried all across the frontier. Speak to Madam Nazar to pick up a Fossils Map, plus a Pennington Field Shovel and Metal Detector, if not already part of your repertoire. And any amateur archaeologist who collects a single Fossil this week will receive a Tarot Card, Lost Jewelry and Arrowhead”

Can you really call yourself an Outlaw if you haven’t taken down a legendary Ram and made a poncho out of its body? Red Dead Online continues to add new content constantly, and I know a lot of people who keep going back for some cowboy action. If Rams don’t get you interested in trying the open world online game, I just don’t know what will.

There’s exciting news for fans of platformers with an evil difficulty level, with OkunoKA Madness announced and releasing this September. The masocore amongst you may remember the original OkunoKA, and now it’s back with new levels and more challenge than ever on PS4, Switch, Xbox One and Steam.

“Ignition Publishing and Italian developer Caracal Games are proud to announce OkunoKA Madness, an evolution of the original masocore platformer OkunoKA, complete with new levels, bosses, features and challenges!

With a distinct hand-drawn visual style, OkunoKA Madness evolves the original game’s blend of challenging platforming speedrunning and once again sees you play as KA, a diminutive blue creature who sets out on a journey to save the world of souls from evil, in as stylish and fast a fashion as possible.

Built from the ground up for speedrunners, OkunoKA Madness lets you play the way you want, as fast as you want. Offering three different speedrunning modes: across all worlds, single levels, or custom level selection, you’ll have complete freedom to challenge your reflexes and beat the clock. With fully customisable global and local leaderboards, challenge your friends to beat your best times across more than 100 levels, or even the world!”

After playing the entirity of Celeste at the start of the year, I’m in desperate need of more hard as nails platforming. I’m all in to die again and again on September 8th.

Focus Home Interactive and Lightbulb Crew have dropped some a new video showcasing their upcoming strategy horror game. The new Othercide gameplay overview trailer shows off the game’s brutal tactical combat, and I can’t way to jump in.

“Othercide debuts on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in under two weeks on July 28th, and later this summer on Nintendo Switch. As Humanity’s last hope, lead your army of Daughters to combat in an intricate dance of spectacular actions and counters, and face fearsome bosses in epic battles. Today’s Othercide gameplay trailer shows off exclusive footage, taking a deep dive into the tactical combat and progression systems that make up this dark indie gem.

In Othercide, the unique Dynamic Timeline System is at the core of every battle. Rather than simply controlling where and what your units do, you will also manipulate when things happen. This can be used in many ways, from interrupting an enemy attack before it even occurs, to unleashing a devastating series of combos. Death will inevitably take you. Healing Daughters requires the sacrifice of another, and your forces cannot withstand the onslaught of Suffering forever. However, there is hope: each failed run opens up new game-changing abilities, options and opportunities for the next attempt.”

Othercide is looking to end an already packed July with a bang. Horror and strategy don’t often meet, so I hope Lightbulb Crew are able to pull this genre mashup off.

Football attire isn’t something we normally cover here at God is a Geek, but this new kit reveal is anything but normal. In an inspired marketing decision, the new Southampton FC kit was revealed via video game. The charming little runner game involves dodging obstacles through the club’s history, and collecting various items and kit pieces for a high score.

“In a kit launch like never seen before, Southampton FC has created a retro 8-bit pixel style game to encourage fans to play their way to the ultimate 2020/21 kit reveal.

The goal of the game, which was produced by ‘Tech Company of the Year’ UNIT9, is simple; dribble your way through history collecting as many points as possible by picking up various objects, avoiding obstacles and ‘defying the odds’ along the way. And like all the best games, those who make it to the top of the leader board are in with a chance of winning a number of different prizes including the ultimate football gaming pack featuring a PS4 or Xbox and FIFA 2020.

And that’s not all, the game bolsters a number of hidden Easter Eggs guaranteed to appeal to wider footballing fans, such as appearance from fan favourite Matt Le Tissier, Kevin Keegan and even the infamous Ali Dia, who supposedly tricked his way into playing for Southampton FC for a total of 53 mins back in 1996!”

The game really is very charming, and packed full of references that fans of The Saints will appreciate. You can play it here, and don’t forget to submit your score for the chance to win some gaming goodies. I’m seriously impressed with this unique way to show off a footie kit, and I guess now I’m Southampton til I die. Next time I’m playing Fifa, I’m taking them to the top of the league.

Fans of one of Cartoon Network‘s biggest shows are in luck later this year, as Ben 10 Power Trip is announced for October 9th. With an emphasis on co-op, you can expect a lot of alien transformation as you help Ben save the world solo or with a buddy.

“Ben and his family are enjoying their European vacation… until evil magician Hex unleashes the power of four mysterious crystals! Only Ben 10 can break the curse – so get ready to transform into powerful aliens to battle enemies, solve puzzles and freely explore an exciting 3D world. It’s hero time!

With Gwen and Grandpa Max on your side, all the humor and rivalry from the Cartoon Network show is here. And since four arms are better than two, Kevin Levin is along for the adventure in local split-screen co-op. This is one Power Trip you’ll want to take again and again.”

I can’t imagine a better way to get a youngster into video games, than playing a co-op version of their favourite show. After the recent success of the Spongebob remaster, Ben 10 is ready to provide more cartoon fun this October.

Fans of horrific demons and tactical gameplay have something to look forward to next month, as Othercide releases July 28th on PC and console. Focus Home Interactive and Lightbulb Crew dropped this jaw dropping release date trailer today, which is a must watch.

“Descend into Humanity’s last hope. The Daughters, echoes of the greatest warrior to ever live, are all who stand before Suffering and death. Lead your army to battle with all the skill you can muster. Your prowess in combat will decide their fate, shape their abilities and personality. Make the toughest decision and sacrifice one to heal another – survivors will get stronger, ready to fight the next battle.”

Combat is an intricate dance of spectacular actions and counters: plan ahead of time and set up impressive chains of abilities to outsmart the enemy using the Dynamic Timeline System. Fight in epic boss battles against the sources of Suffering – dread creatures pulled from the worst of Humanity’s crimes against itself.”

There have been a lot of great strategy games in recent months (Desperados III and Gears Tactics have surpassed all expectations) but none are quite as breathtakingly gorgeous as Othercide looks. Horror and tactical RPG gameplay don’t often mix, abd I can’t wait to try the game for myself this July.

Xbox had a great indie game showing on day two of the Guerrilla Collective. As part of this selection, it was announced that Welcome to Elk is coming to Xbox One. This surreal mini game adventure is based on real life stories, and was definitely a highlight of the show.

“Welcome to Elk is a biographical adventure set on an island like no other, where every character you encounter has a story to tell. From the weird and wonderful to the dark and desperate, all the tales told on Elk are based on true stories of life on the road less traveled.

You play as Frigg, a young carpenter traveling to Elk for an apprenticeship. She is used to an outgoing and hectic lifestyle in the city. How will she handle the isolated life on Elk with only few young people around her and no internet?

On Elk, Frigg and you will meet the weird and wonderful characters – people whom the world has either ignored or forgotten. Follow their ups and downs, their odd drinking rituals and their unique ways of tackling whatever life throws at them. Here it’s known that humour, love and death go hand in hand. Life may seem hard sometimes, but it is always followed by laughter.

We value the importance of storytellers, those who carry the tales of others and share them. That’s why, in Elk, you will also meet the living storytellers who inspired us to make this game.”

The use of mini games as storytelling is a great hook, and one that I don’t think I’ve seen outside of What Remains of Edith Finch. This alongside the striking art style, I’ll definitely be jumping in as soon as possible. We’ll all get to discover this surreal world ourself soon, when Welcome to Elk releases later this year.

Today, Xaviant has announced the much-requested return of one of the earliest battle royale survival games, The Culling: Origins, coming back to Xbox One on May 14. It’ll cost $5.99 and comes with a 1-day free trial before payment. Anyone that has already purchased or played The Culling: Origins when it was free-to-play will be able to play without any additional purchase.

“The Culling is one of the pioneers of the Battle Royale genre and even today it stands alone as a unique up-close-and-personal combat experience,” said Josh Van Veld, Xaviant’s Director of Operations. “We get messages every day from players who want The Culling to come back and for the last several months we’ve been working to make that happen.”

He continued, “our new approach focuses on sustainability – we’ve optimized our systems to keep server costs low and we’ve shifted our monetization approach to ensure that players will be able to visit the island for years to come. Initially we’re focusing on Xbox One with this effort,” Van Veld concluded, “But we’re working to bring back the PC version in the future.”

The relaunched version of The Culling: Origins will come with the following updates:

  • Players can play one free match online each day. Players can play additional matches through the following means:
  • Winning an online match grants an Online Match Token
  • Packs of Online Match Tokens can be purchased (3 tokens = $0.99, 10 tokens = $2.99, 20 tokens = $4.99)
  • Online Passes providing unlimited online play can be purchased for 7 Days ($1.99) or 30 Days ($5.99)
  • Xbox One graphical quality improved dramatically, rendering at 30% higher resolution with the addition of anti-aliasing and an improved framerate
  • A.I. behaviour has been overhauled to provide a much more compelling and challenging offline experience
  • Player stamina system has been tweaked – reducing the time it takes for stamina to fully regenerate
  • The game no longer includes premium items or charges for crates. Players can level up, earn crates, and unlock airdrops through offline play.
  • In order to keep the game alive indefinitely, a great deal of effort has been spent streamlining back-end systems to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • A side effect of this effort is that past saved games will be wiped and all previous unlocks have been reset.

You can watch the brand new trailer below:

For fans of Sega Mega Drive beat-em-ups, the time has finally come. With the last game releasing in 1994, the long awaited sequel Streets of Rage 4 is coming April 30th. It launches on Xbox GamePass for users of the service, and will also be available on PS4, Switch and PC.

“Streets of Rage 4 is the franchise’s first mainline entry in more than 25 years, reuniting Axel, Blaze, and Adam while introducing fresh fighters and combat depth, an arrestingly fluid hand-drawn art style, and an all-new scenario as well as city boroughs to crack skulls in. With an original soundtrack from Olivier Derivière incorporating worldwide talent, including massive contributions from series composers Yūzō Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima, Streets of Rage 4’s pairing of classic elements with distinctive modern direction makes this highly anticipated return the fight of a lifetime.”

The beat-em-up genre gets ignored far too often, so the return of Streets of Rage is going to make a lot of people happy. After all the characters were revealed, it was only a matter of time before we got a release date. I still have the original trilogy installed on my Xbox One, and I think I’ll be installing the 4th game later this month.

With Resident Evil 3 out now, your next dose of survival horror isn’t far behind. Daymare: 1998 from developer Invader Studios is already out on PC, but is due for release on consoles at the end of April. Perhaps best know for developing the now-cancelled Resident Evil 2 Reborn, the fan-made remake of Resident Evil 2 before the official remake happened, Invader Studios has channeled that love of the genre into its own third-person horror game.

Daymare: 1998 is currently available to pre-order digitally on Xbox One, but is also due for a physical release on PS4 in the US and Europe, complete with the Black Edition.

The Daymare: 1998 Black Edition will include:

  • Game disc
  • Character cards
  • Stickers
  • Collectible pins (at selected retailers)

However, the publisher does state that physical copies may be affected by the current pandemic, but says:

The publishers’ distribution partners Meridiem Games (EU) and GS2 Games (US) will keep on doing their best in getting the boxes to the customers as close to the planned release date as possible.

Daymare: 1998 is out now on PC, and coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 28th.

The post Hunt: Showdown | 6 tips for console players appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Hunt: Showdown is now fully out on consoles after being in Early Access on Xbox One for the past year. It is a brilliant blend of survival horror with Battle Royale mechanics, but it can still feel a little overwhelming at the start. Below you will find some quick Hunt: Showdown tips to help you get to grips with things. They’ll cover areas such as the intricacies of the combat and strategic possibilities that the environment presents to you. A large part of your early game will still be spent quivering in fear in a bush, but at least you can start a little more comfortably.

1. Choose your play style

There are two different types of play style you can choose in Hunt: Showdown, and it is advised to try both to see which you prefer. You have a choice between Hunter or Gunslinger. The Gunslinger mode is more akin to FPS controls that you may be used to. There will be a permanent crosshair for your weapon and you can fire from the hip immediately. Pressing and holding the left trigger will aim down sight and the right trigger will fire the weapon. The melee function while holding your primary or secondary weapon will default to clicking in the right stick.

In Hunter mode, you have a little more flexibility, but considerably more fiddly controls. To be able to fire from the hip you will need to press and hold the left trigger. If you want to aim down sights you will then need to click in the right stick. The melee control will also be linked to the right trigger, rather than your right stick, which does take some getting used to.

Hunt Showdown screenshot 001

2. Equip a melee item

There are a lot of weapons to unlock in Hunt: Showdown, but not all of them fire projectiles. You can equip a number of melee weapons, but you can also equip a knife or knuckle dusters in one of your equipment slots. The knife is pretty powerful as it allows you to take out the grunt enemies fairly quickly, but more importantly virtually in silence. Also, you can slow enemies down significantly by swiping at their legs – armoured enemies are particularly vulnerable to this. For immolators, you’re better off using blunt melee damage, as piercing damage will aggro them. And the last thing you want is one exploding and rushing at you.

3. Watch out for environmental alarms

As you wander around the two maps in Hunt: Showdown you will come across a number of creatures that will provide alarms or decoy opportunities for you. Crows, for example, will startle and fly up in the direction you are travelling so be careful as you are likely to give away your location and direction of travel. Also, around large buildings, you will find cages. The red cages are the ones that will have dogs or chickens in them, that will make a noise when you are nearby. You can take them out fairly swiftly by shooting the lamps that are hanging above them.

Hunt Showdown screenshot 002

4. When to use stealth

There are lots of sound traps around the maps of Hunt: Showdown. If you want to be quiet it is worth avoiding these as much as possible, but equally, you don’t want to move too slowly when you are out in the open. After all, a crouching, slow-moving target is an easy target.

When you are near a compound where you believe other players are, then you can choose when and how to use stealth. While crouched, opening doors will be quieter and you will make less noise over broken glass or whilst walking over tin roofs.

5. Clues

Clues are dotted around the maps and gathering three of one type will allow you to pinpoint the location of the boss. If a clue is still sealed, i.e. another hunter has yet to find it, it will look like cracked ice. Clues that look like a black portal to hell, tell you another Hunter has already gathered it and is one step ahead of you. Glowing red clues that make a noise mean another hunter is in very close proximity to you. But, be aware that it will only glow red if you still have to gather the clue, if you have already taken it you will not get the red warning.

Hunt Showdown screenshot 003

6. Burning bodies prevent revives

Each hunter comes equipped with the same health pool which is divided up into health chunks. Fire damage is continuous until you put it out, and any health chunks taken by fire cannot be repaired with any health item. The same happens with a downed hunter. If you want to prevent a revive of that hunter you are best off burning the body if you can. Remember though, if you burn it before looting it you won’t be able to take anything off it once it has burned out.

These are just six quick Hunt: Showdown tips to get you started. You will soon find that Hunt: Showdown presents a layered experience with tonnes of potential for different types of strategy. The best advice is just to get started and make some mistakes. For the first eleven levels of your overall or “Bloodline” level you won’t use lose your hunter if they die in a match, giving you plenty of opportunities to practice and get familiar with the mechanics. After level eleven though, if you die in match your hunter regardless of their level will remain permanently dead and any weapons and equipment they had on them will be lost. Please feel free to share your Hunt: Showdown tips in the comments.

In case you missed the announcement, there has been a load of new info released about the Xbox Series X. It contains some finer details you may have wanted to know since the consoles announcement. Enough of the small talk, let’s get into the details.

Next Gen Custom Processor

The Xbox Series X will be using their own custom designed processor, leveraging AMD’s Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architectures. Processing power will be getting a boost and will have four times that of the Xbox One. Developers will be able to make use of 12 TFLOPS of GPU performance, which comes in at double that of the Xbox One X.

Variable Rate Shading

The patented VRS for Xbox Series X will more efficiently utilise the capabilities of the console. This means that instead of the GPU concentrating on every pixel on screen, individual effects will be prioritised on specific characters and environmental objects. This aims to provide more stable frame rates and higher resolution.

DirectX Raytracing

Thanks to DirectX Raytracing, there will be more realistic environments. True to life lighting, accurate reflections and realistic acoustics in real time is what this aims to deliver.

SSD Storage

The next gen SSD will be a part of the Xbox Series X which means nearly everything should be faster. Game worlds will be larger and load instantly and things like fast travel will mean fast.

Quick Resume

The Quick Resume feature aims to let you continue multiple games from a suspended state almost immediately. In doing this you can pick up from where you left off without needing to sit though any loading screens.

Dynamic Latency Input (DLI)

The latency in the Xbox Wireless Controller has also been looked at. Using the consoles higher bandwidth means that latency between input and what happens on screen is more precise and responsive.

HDMI 2.1 Innovation

Microsoft has partnered with the HDMI forum and TV manufacturers to help with features like Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).

This means that ALLM allows the Xbox One and Xbox Series X to automatically adjust the connected display to its lowest latency mode. VRR syncs the display’s refresh rate which means no tearing of the visuals.

120 fps support

Just as it sounds. The Xbox Series X supports up to 120 fps, allowing developers to go beyond the standard 60 fps.

Four Gens of gaming

Microsoft will continue with their commitment to compatibility. This means that existing Xbox One games, including backward compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox games, will be available to play on the Xbox Series X. They will also look and play better on the Series X. Xbox Games Pass games will also be included. All games will have steadier framerates, faster loading times and improved resolution and visual fidelity.

Smart Delivery

Microsoft has also committed to using Smart Delivery on all exclusive Xbox Game Studios titles. The aim for Smart Delivery is that you’ll buy a game once and, whether you’re playing it on the Xbox One or Series X, you will be playing the right version of that game. The technology will be available to developers to use on games that release on Xbox One first, then make their way to the Series X.

Xbox Game Pass

Game Pass will still include games from past gens but will also include current gen games. First party games will continue to be included on Game Pass at launch, e.g. Halo Infinite.

Microsoft is intending on releasing more Xbox Series X info in the coming months. Presumably at the upcoming E3.

The post Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Safi’jiiva Siege Guide appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne update 12.02 brought in the second part of the Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds collaboration quest and the new siege monster, Safi’jiiva. The Safi’jiiva siege is available on both PS4 and Xbox One right now and will be available until January 5, 2020.

How to unlock the Safi’jiiva siege

To unlock the Safi’jiiva siege, you need to have completed the “Across the Lost Path” special assignment (indicated by a purple “!” in Seliana) to hunt a Stygian Zinogre. You also need to be at least Master Rank 24 or higher to be able to enter the siege. Once you’ve done the Stygian Zinogre quest, you need to do the “??? Recon” special assignment that has you just scouting and learning how Safi’jiiva behaves. Once this quest is complete, you can initiate the real siege in the gathering hub.

How to join the Safi’jiiva siege

While the quest can be done solo if you’re skilled, don’t bother because you are just wasting your time. This is very much a multiplayer quest and is balanced accordingly. The best way to join the siege is searching for an online session with the “Filter Search” feature. This lets you join sessions focussing on Safi’jiiva. Once you’re in the session, you need to get to the Gathering Hub and join a siege or initiate a siege.

Safi’jiiva weakness

Safi’jiiva is weak to dragon (and elderseal) mainly so equip dragon attack weapons if you have them and want to rely on that. Safi’jiiva can also be poisoned and can be inflicted using blast weapons. I only really recommend poison because it is more reliable than blast in my experience.

Safi’jiiva siege complete guide

There are three phases to one attempt at the siege. Your aim as a party of four is to break parts and try and slay Safi’jiiva while other groups also do the same. Each group will help the others in some way but your main aim (besides staying alive) is to make Safi’jiiva drain energy from a level and move to the next one. The siege has three phases across three areas and Safi’jiiva gets more aggressive with each phase.

The first phase is basically like a tutorial where you understand how to target Safi’jiiva and where you you should focus with your particular weapon. I’d recommend sticking to attacking its legs initially and then targetting the tail because a tail cut drop is worth loads in this siege. As you keep damaging Safi’jiiva, it will drain energy from the level and once that is exhausted, it will move to the next area which begins the second phase.

Paying attention to what the NPCs tell you is very important during phases two and three because they let you know who Safi’jiiva is targetting and when Safi’jiiva is preparing the massive supernova like attack.

In phase two, Safi’jiiva is a lot more dangerous. It starts to target specific teammates (or you) and you need to ensure that you are damaging Safi’jiiva enough while it is targetting someone else. Safi’jiiva also has a supernova like attack here which will cart you so hide behind the various rocks (crags) around the area. These are shown on the map. Safi’jiiva also has an attack that has it fire a laser at a teammate and this is where you need to use Life Powder or Dust of Life to ensure your teammate doesn’t cart. You also need to avoid Safi’jiiva’s area of effect attacks that inflict you with fireblight here. The ground has signs of the attack so be mindful of the environment.

In phase three, the final battle begins. This is similar to the location in the initial tease for the December update from Capcom. In this phase, Safi’jiiva has more aggressive attacks. It still has the supernova attack but rocks are less plentiful in this area and the third phase. When you start seeing Safi’jiiva drop slinger bombs, you will know that the siege is nearly complete. This phase is also when you need to pay attention to the clock.

Once you have survived and slayed Safi’jiiva, make sure to carve it because the material drops are needed for the Safi’jiiva armor sets.

What items to bring to the Safi’jiiva siege

Life Powder and Dust of Life are both essentials because when Safi’jiiva targets you or a teammate, someone has to use one of those to ensure no one carts.

A farcaster is useful to restock items in between phases.

In terms of mantles, go with whatever you’re most comfortable with. This isn’t an easy and quick fight so don’t stress on learning how to hunt while using mantles you aren’t familiar with or with specialised tools you haven’t used before.

Hopefully that helps you do the siege because the armor and weapons you can craft or earn are well worth your time.

While Monster Hunter World had loads of collaborations across great brands like Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, and even Horizon Zero Dawn, Capcom began Monster Hunter World: Iceborne’s collaborations with the amazing Resident Evil 2. This collaboration is live on both PS4 and Xbox One for a limited time. Alongside this, a collaboration is live with Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds which is a two part affair. The first part has gone live on PS4. Both of these events are only for those who own Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Resident Evil 2 event guide

RE: Return of the Bioweapon: This quest (available on PS4 and Xbox One until December 5) takes place in the Rotten Vale and features you (and up to three others) taking on Blackveil Vaal Hazak. You need to be Master Rank 20 or higher to be able to do the quest. This event quest has a nice helping of Resident Evil 2 with music and even items. For this quest, any effuvia resistance you have is useless so forget those decorations and skills.

Instead, you enter a zombified state which heals you when your weapon is sheathed over time. The downside is you cannot use any items or evade during this state and your movement is much slower. I’d recommend doing this quest solo just to understand how you end up feeling while playing in a zombified state so you don’t end up carting (dying) when playing with others.

The way to cure this is using a special event item called the Green Herb. You find these all over the place and they are different from the regular herbs you use in Monster Hunter World. You can combine these event items with the rare red herb to maximise your health and heal up. That covers the main mechanics of the quest.

Blackveil Vaal Hazak is not an easy fight in general. During the main story, both Mick Fraser and myself struggled with this monster. Thankfully, getting better gear and learning how to deal with Blackveil Vaal Hazak attack patterns is all it took, as expected. Blackveil Vaal Hazak with the zombified mechanic is very easy to deal with once you get used to movement and the mechanics involved. Slaying Blackveil Vaal Hazak will net you S.T.A.R.S. Badges that you can use to craft Leon and Claire armor, the Tofu pendant, and much more for this event.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Horizon Zero Dawn: the Frozen Wilds event guide

Into the Frozen Wilds: This event quest is PS4 exclusive. It features the first part of a collaboration between Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds. Since this is the first part, the quest isn’t too interesting. The Into the Frozen Wilds quest has you take on a Zinogre in the Hoarfrost Reach. You need to be Master Rank 24 or higher to be able to enter the quest.

There isn’t any special mechanic here like the Resident Evil 2 event quest. Just remember to take on Stun Resist gear and the thunderproof mantle if you have it because Zinogre hits and stuns hard. Zinogre is weak to ice so equip a nice ice weapon if you have one. You don’t need to worry about invasions in this quest which is nice. I recommend carrying a few pitfall traps as well. Avoid using shock traps for obvious reasons. Avoid Zinogre’s projectiles and evading right in time when Zinogre does the jump attacks will make this hunt a breeze.

Completing this event quest will net you a Banuk Warrior Symbol or two. You can use these with other items to craft the Stormslinger Prototype Light Bowgun and the Focus Pendant. The light bowgun isn’t great in its current state and I hope the second part of the collaboration will have something that’s actually usable for endgame. The Focus Pendant looks great though.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Horizon Zero Dawn event rewards

1. Stormslinger Prototype Light Bowgun (3 x Banuk Warrior Symbol, 3 x Zinogre Deathly Shocker, 1 x Zinogre Hardhorn, 2 x Zinogre Hardclaw)
2. Focus Pendant (2 x Banuk Warrior Symbol, 500 Research Points)

That covers both of these events. I’ll have a guide for the next Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds collaboration that arrives in December as well.
