The post Apex Legends first major tournament went down a storm appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Just outside of Kraków, Poland, this weekend saw the first major international tournament event for Apex Legends: the Apex Legends pre-season invitational, starring the latest battle royale phenomenon from Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts. 80 teams were invited to compete for their share of half a million US dollars in total prize money, which was to be distributed across all top 20 finalists and an $8,000 ‘predator’ prize for the top fragger. There was an air of experimentation around this tournament, with EA/Respawn wanting to dip their toes in the water and see if there’s an appetite for a large-scale Apex Legends tournament. With the winning team walking away with $105,000, second place taking $75k, and 3rd place nabbing $60k, this was no small fête.

Set in Alvernia Studios, this was truly an amazing venue to host a video games tournament. It has a wow factor that translates well onto the screen at home. Being there in person just adds another level to the awesomeness, it’s like you’re walking around a DOOM map. Spectator tickets were available for $25 but the audience size was very limited. These were more for the friends and family of the players than your average consumer. The real audience were watching from home as the event was being streamed live across all platforms.

Viewership hovered around 50k on Twitch throughout the event, reaching just shy of 100k views on the final day. YouTube live audiences were very low at around 10k live viewers, but have since hit 400k views for Day 3 VOD footage. There’s definitely a demand for this kind of online event. Interestingly, Mixer failed to hit four digit viewer numbers – perhaps something to do with their algorithm or lack of support for live events? EA/Respawn were promoting all channels equally, so it’s bizarre to see such a low take-up from the Mixer community.

Brackets, explained!

The double elimination winners/losers bracket format can seem quite confusing at first, but it essentially means every team has multiple chances of making it to the Grand Finals. The top 10 teams from each round move up the ladder, and the losing teams shift from the winner’s bracket to the loser’s bracket. What we ended up seeing was an impressive number of teams in the Grand Finals who had fought their way back through the loser’s bracket, and boy did they earn it; some teams had competed in three times as many matches as those who clung on to the winner’s bracket. Third Impact, for example, dropped out of the winner’s bracket after round one, won in the loser’s bracket rounds 1, 2 and 3, followed by the loser’s bracket final, then ended up taking home $7,800 in the Grand Finals. Quite impressive.

Battle royale matches can be famously slow to start, with teams dropping into a vast world and scrambling for loot. The first ten minutes of a new round can arguably be skipped – this is your time to go make a cup of tea – but after that things do progress quite rapidly. If there’s anything Repsawn could do to speed up those first 10 minutes with an eSports mode that might go down well with audiences. You’re bound to get teams who play it safe and camp out, and the addition of the Wattson character doesn’t lend well to competitive eSports for that reason, but once the pace has picked up in the latter half of each round it’s a joy to behold. Again, there are elements of repetitiveness, with the same 3 weapons being used each game (namely the Wingman, R99 and Peacekeeper), but the playstyle of each team really comes into its own as the circle pushes them all closer together and tensions rise. Here we could see that players had a real knowledge of the map, trying to guess where the circle would end up and nabbing some really crafty spots.

The winning moment

The fact that some players were using controllers during the Apex Legends pre-season invitational – complete with auto-assist – while others were #pcmasterrace using mouse and keyboard was a slight point of contention but other than the occasional dig during the on-stage post-match banter it wasn’t really much of an issue. Crossplay is becoming incredibly popular in mainstream video games, and it looks like that could transition over to eSports too.

The most exciting part of the Apex Legends pre-season invitational was without a doubt the Grand Finals. This is a brand new format that is going to have a huge impact on eSports tournaments going forward. Teams needed to earn at least 50 points to be in contention to win. Eliminations earn 1 point each, then points are distributed for each team based on their placement in the round, as follows:

1st place – 12 Points
2nd place – 9 Points
3rd place – 7 Points
4th place – 5 Points
5th place – 4 Points
6th – 10th place – 2 Points
11th – 15th place – 1 Points
16th – 20th place – 0 Points

Once a team has earned at least 50 points they must then win a match in the Grand Finals to win the entire tournament. As the Grand Finals kicked off we expected to see 1 or 2 matches, perhaps 4 at most. Five and a half hours later we had just seen our 10th Grand Final match end with no sign of a winning team in sight. A majority of teams had earned themselves 50 points, but they just couldn’t quite grasp a win. TSM came extremely close to a solo win with Imperial Hal almost securing a clutch as last man standing, but it wasn’t meant to be. That didn’t stop them re-grouping and pulling off the final win a few matches later.

Team Solo Mod won the Apex Preseason Invitational with 100 points after 21 matches, including 11 matches in the Grand Finals! No one can say they didn’t put effort into taking home that $105,000, with a 6-hour Grand Final, starting at 5pm and not wrapping up until gone 11pm.

It’s worth giving an honourable mention to Team 789 who were fan favourites throughout the tournament, even coming above TSM in first place for the winners bracket finals. 789 are the first team with a female player, Elvira Terimova, to reach the final stage of the tournament, showing that anyone regardless of race, sex or gender can compete at the highest level of eSports.

We’ve no doubt we’ll see more from Apex Legends next year, with regular content drops and another competitive eSports tournament. As long as they keep that intense Grand Final format, we’re sure viewers will be in for a great time.

If you like FIFA and you like numbers then this is the news post for you, you lucky person (or persons).

The Global Series regular season events generated over 680 million minutes watched with 61 million total views. Now, I don’t have last year’s numbers to hand, but that’s apparently a 60% increase in minutes watched and a 25% increase on overall views from the previous year, which is a really good return. You can see a full breakdown here if infographics are your thing.

From here the series goes to the playoffs with the Xbox Ladder taking place in Hamburg between July 5 and 7, then the PS4 bracket in berlin from July 12 to 14. 128 players will take part, with 64 per console bracket as they try to advance to the FIFA eWorld Cup and become the eWorld Cup 2019 Champion.

You can find out more information on the series here.

The 2019 All-Star Overwatch League Game between the Atlantic and Pacific Divisions was won by the Atlantic, while the 1v1 Widowmaker event was won by the Pacific Division’s Diem.

If you had no idea this was going on, don’t worry, I didn’t either, although I think that’s because I forgot. In a best of four series the Atlantic Division roared into a 3-0 lead before the Atlantic Division pulled a game back with Dorado before finally succumbing to their opponents.

The Pacific Division’s Diem from the Shanghai Dragons won the Widowmaker 1v1 event after taking down San Francisco Shock’s Viol2t and Seoul Dynasty’s Fleta to advance to the finals where he beat San Francisco Shock’s Nenne and take the competition. Nenne had to break his way through Philadelphia Fusion’s Carpe and his own teammate Pine to get there.

In a twist the Pacific Division earned some bragging rights by beating the Atlantic Division 3-1 in the All-Star Arcade. The winning team won on Sibling Rivalry (6v6 Genji’s and Hanzo’s per team), Healers Never Die (6v6 Supports only) and Keeping the Peace (6v6 McCree only) while Atlantic took Terrible, Terrible Damage (6v6 Damage only). Finally the Overwatch League casting team split off into two teams and at the end the Atlantic Division won, lead by Brennon Hook.

The regular season returns on Thursday June 6, and you’ll be able to catch all the action on the official Twitch channel.

The post Inside the biggest transfer in Rainbow 6 history appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

With less than a week to go before The Paris Major the reigning Rainbow Six Siege world champions PENTA Sports were getting in some vital last minute scrims, trying to perfect the tactics that would eventually see them win the tournament. This was just like any other pre-tournament scrim session, improving their game was the only focus they had. It was a normal day in the life of a RB6 pro, but over the next few hours the player’s lives were about to be turned upside down before the competition could even begin.

Midway through one of their scrims, word filtered through to the team that a major esports organisation was looking to sign them. Despite already being signed to PENTA Sports, the organisation that star player Niclas “Pengu” Mouritzen had been with for his entire RB6 career, the team had expressed an interest in moving on, be that via transfer or simply via free agency when their contracts expired. However, it seemed unlikely much would change before the Major. With tournament preparations still in progress and a bit of scepticism that the info was reliable the team continued to practice. “I was like ‘I’m not sure your telling the truth because no big orgs are interested in us,’” Mouritzen recalls.

After the scrim was complete the team looked into the information a little more and found that a big org really was interested in them, as G2 Esports and PENTA were discussing a possible transfer. Almost immediately the players spoke with Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez, the founder and CEO of G2, who laid out the G2 vision and sales pitch, trying to convince the players that his org was the place they needed to be.

“Not only did they hit our expectations, they went above and even added extra,” says Mouritzen, who was clearly impressed with what he was being told by this organisation that was desperate for his signature.

G2 were offering the biggest contracts in Rainbow Six history, facilities that only the largest organisations in the world can provide and a legion of fans that would surely welcome the Rainbow Six roster. So it was no surprise that the players decided to sign with G2 when presented with finalised contracts around 12 hours after their initial discussion with Rodriguez.

“[It’s] lower than League of Legends, lower than Counter-Strike, but similar to Rocket League,” says Rodriguez when talking about how much the G2 Rainbow Six roster is making in salary. “We’re definitely paying more than the average, but it was the same case for Rocket League back in the day, and then other teams came on board. That’s just the nature of how things move forward. Somebody has to pay more at some point, and this time has been us.”

While the players were trying to balance practising for one of the biggest events of their lives and deciding whether to move to a new organisation, Rodriguez was deep in negotiations with the senior management of PENTA Sports to make the transfer happen. The negotiation was a fast paced affair, with the deal mostly being worked out within a 48 hour span. G2 had been looking for a RB6 team for a while, and had looked at the PENTA roster previously, but once both sides agreed a deal could potentially be done the Paris Major was days away and time was extremely limited.

The two parties, with G2’s efforts being led by Rodriguez himself, worked over the course of two days to agree on terms. Both knew what they wanted, but finding a middle ground where both were happy took some work. “They were pretty good at negotiating,” Rodriguez says. “It ended up being costly, but whenever we are confident that a decision we’re making feels like the right decision, then we go all in.”

On the other side of the negotiations PENTA’s management were quickly becoming aware that they would almost have little choice in the final outcome these negotiations. Sure they could try and create a better deal, but actually keeping their world championship winning team would be near impossible with the player’s wish to move on and the money that was being offered. It would have been a foolish move to hold on to the team for another few months and then potentially lose them to free agency.

“We always stated that we want to keep the team, provide them the best possible support and help them on their journey,” says Hendrik Goetzendorff, managing director at PENTA Sports. “Unfortunately our team received offers to good to refuse and asked us to be transferred to another organisation. As the contracts were running out soon and the team voiced their wish to join another organisation, we helped the players to find a suitable new home.”

Neither side of the deal will reveal just how much the transfer fee was, but they have announced that it was the largest in Rainbow Six history. On the surface that may not seem like the biggest deal, after all Rainbow Six Siege is still a growing esport and the money involved isn’t on the level of other larger esports. However, a closer look at the scene shows that the likes of Team Liquid, FaZe Clan, Evil Geniuses and many more top tier esports organisations have all purchased teams in Rainbow Six over the past few years, with EG also signing a former world championship winning roster. This deal was larger than all of them.

In the space of two days the deal had been completed and the PENTA Sports roster was officially transferred to G2 Esports. The move was confirmed on the final day that would allow the team to play under the G2 banner at the Paris Major, and the organisation even offered to help ESL with any changes that may have needed to be made to make things easier with this last minute shake up.

G2 also went all out to make sure they could capitalise on the quick timing between the announcement and the organisation’s first major tournament in Rainbow Six. They worked with the team in Pairs to create content, promote the massive deal and make sure they were getting the best value out of their massive acquisition, something that was pretty new to the players. “We’ve gotten more photos and more exposure on social media in 48 hours in G2 than we did in three years with PENTA,” Mouritzen says.

Looking back on the deal it seems almost impossible that this was all put together in such a short space of time. All kinds of financial records in the world of Rainbow Six were smashed, the reigning world champions found a new home and one of the biggest esports organisations in the world entered the game for the first time.

What is perhaps even more surprising is that the deal seems to have worked out for everyone involved. G2 got an amazing new roster that has since gone on to defend their world championship. The players got record breaking contracts that will secure their futures for years to come, and new facilities to help improve their play. While PENTA Sports, who on paper seemed to be the losers of the transfer, got a boatload of money, some of which it has used to acquire a new Rainbow Six roster that qualified for the Six Invitational, and perhaps more importantly, handed G2 their only loss of the last Pro League season.

It’s April, and as such nearly Easter, and those bunnies over at Psyonix have been at it like….*ahem*…anyway, there’s a new shop and a new Rocket Pass coming soon.

In an announcement that makes me think they should have just announced all this next week Psyonix has announced that from April 16 a new eSports shop will open in the game featuring items representing the various teams that take part in the regular eSports tournaments that are held. Psyonix also say that the third Rocket Pass will go live the day after on April 17. Both of these are due to get more info drops next week (see what I mean?).

There’ll also be a patch dropping that will enable new visual effects in replays like colour adjustments, changing the depth of field, green screen effects and more. There’ll also be added HDR support (this is good, I’ve been waiting for this), new Monstercat flags and many ‘quality of life improvements’.

So, expect another Rocket League news drop next week.

Tomorrow the final of KFC’s first ever eSports tournament and sixteen players will fight it out over a £50,000 prize pool and a KFC Black Card.

For those that don’t know (like me until about 5 minutes ago) a KFC Black Card entitles the user to unlimited KFC chicken, which is surely worth the price of the tournament itself? But the winner will also walk away £15,000 richer as well. There were sixteen qualifying rounds over five weeks leading up to this, and now the sixteen finalists have teamed up with a bunch of content creators and have been training together ready to kick ass in the name of chicken.

You’ll be able to watch the final from 3pm uk time tomorrow via the streams of the content creators, details for which you can find here: http://www.kfcroyale.com/kfc/leagues/final/1257-grand-final

The Gran Turismo Championship was held this weekend in Monaco with the winners receiving the same honours as real world champions.

The event was FIA certified, and when the prize giving gala happens in December Igor Fraga of Brazil will hold his Nations Cup trophy aloft in victory. Team Lexus won the Manufacturers Series with Tyrell Meadows, Vincent Rigaud and Kanata Kawakami leading them to victory.

This was the first eSports tournament officially certified by the FIA, signalling (chortle) a bright future for the virtual racing scene and cements Gran Turismo’s status as a purist driving simulator.

The new Overwatch patch adds Endorsements, Looking for Group feature, major changes to Symmetra, and more https://www.godisageek.com/2018/06/overwatch-patch-adds-endorsements-group-feature-major-symmetra/ Wed, 27 Jun 2018 06:40:13 +0000 http://www.godisageek.com/?p=208889 Horizon, Symmetra, Endorsements, and more

The post The new Overwatch patch adds Endorsements, Looking for Group feature, major changes to Symmetra, and more appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

The newest Overwatch patch is now live on all platforms and it has loads of fixes and changes.

The highlights are Endorsements and the new Looking for Group feature:

Endorsements:
Acknowledge your fellow Overwatch players’ positivity with endorsements! Recognize commendable behavior for players exhibiting sportsmanship, being a good teammate, or for shot calling. Commend players who lead you to victory, put the team’s needs above their own, or exhibit humility in victory or grace in defeat. Endorsements are readily available to view on Career Profiles, the Groups menu, and more so you can tell at a glance the types of players you’re playing with. Those who consistently maintain a high endorsement level will receive periodic rewards, while those who display negative behavior or accrue suspensions will lose their endorsements.
LOOKING FOR GROUP

Looking for Group:
Play your way using the Looking for Group feature! You can control your gameplay experience before stepping into a match by using specific parameters to create your dream team. Join a team of other like-minded players or lead a group of your own by creating a group with your personal preferences such as game mode, role enforcement, and more. Those who want to queue up for Quick Play, Play vs AI, or any competitive mode can set the types of roles others can play. These specifications will then be activated in-game (e.g. players who chose a support role will be restricted to only using heroes in that category).

The Horizon Lunar Colony map sees a ton of changes as well:

HORIZON LUNAR COLONY
Developer Comments: We’ve wanted to make some gameplay improvements to Horizon Lunar Colony for some time now. The defenders’ spawn room had a problem with its main exit that allowed defenders to quickly duck back inside and regain health while attackers shot at them without doing damage. Since we were already reworking the entire back area, we decided to make some more changes addressing player feedback. The idea behind the rework of Point A was to not only help the defenders a bit, but also provide some gameplay options aside from sitting on the point and trying to hold it for as long as possible. Easier access to high ground, as well as limiting the routes for attackers (or at least allowing for defenders to more easily spot the attackers), will allow more opportunity for counters and create a better gameplay experience.
We’ve made a lot of additions and changes to the art throughout the map for you to discover as well.
Point A
Added a staircase on the right when exiting the Hydroponics Room
Removed the door to the lower room on the right
Removed the small wall on the catwalk above Point A
Added some cover walls to the catwalk area
Moved the door next to the staircase that led to Winston’s room
The door is now on the side of the wall in the training pit
Moved the large health pack to the back of the room
Removed some clutter in the upper left computer room
Hydroponics Room
Switched the positions of the large and small health pack
Changed some of the hydroponic plant cover on the right
Point B
Defender spawn room exits moved from the front to the sides out of direct line of fire
Small rooms added at spawn room exits
Additional cover added near the spawn room exits
Added a route and larger platform leading to the back right corner
Raised the platform to the same height as the attackers’ platform on the opposite side of the point
The location of the old defender exit is now an alcove with a small health pack
Both teams can still pass behind the point, but there is now a cut-through in the middle of the wall for better access
The area above the window overlooking the point is now covered
A large platform with cover has been attached to the left side of the catwalk
The upper platform for the attackers has been reduced
The doorway leading to the platform is slightly smaller

Read the full patch notes here.

Overwatch is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

]]>

Nintendo just updated Splatoon 2 to 3.0.0.

The previously announced major update includes a new stage, changes to gear, new gear, loads of fixes, and more. The full balance changes are here. The other patch notes are below:

Changes to Gear
New gear has been added to the shops.

Changes to game music
Added two new songs that will play during multiplayer matches.

Changes to single-player mode
Fulfilling a certain requirement will cause Callie (from the Squid Sisters!) to appear at Tentakeel Outpost.

Changes to Ranked Battle
A new rank type, “X Rank” is now available.

Changes to Splatfests
When Splatfest results are revealed, team voting percentages and win percentages will now display to the hundredths digit after the decimal point.
When playing multiple solo Splatfest matches with few allies, your Splatfest Power will not decrease when losing. Now, Splatfest Power will not decrease when in this situation for an even shorter duration.

Changes to Regular Battle
When playing multiple matches with few allies your Vibe Meter will not change when you lose.

Changes to Multiplayer
Fixed an issue causing the ink tank display to mistakenly appear empty when in squid form and low on ink.
Fixed an issue causing players to occasionally ascend sloped terrain faster than normal by facing the slope and pressing B repeatedly while proceeding.
Fixed an issue allowing players submerged in ink on a wall to be detected by the aiming reticle of opponents standing on the other side of the wall.
Fixed an issue incorrectly extending super jump distance when attacking with certain weapons just prior to landing during a super jump.
Fixed an issue causing players to enter stage objects when the landing point of their super jump was surrounded by obstacles.
Fixed an issue causing the landing or impact indicator to not display correctly when readying a sub weapon for use while facing a horizontal ceiling.
Fixed an issue causing shots fired from blaster weapons not to ink certain walls.
Fixed an issue causing shots fired from chargers by charging for a brief moment when changing from squid to kid form to not fire in the direction of the aiming reticle, and to disappear immediately instead.
Fixed an issue causing shots from sloshers to incorrectly pass through certain pieces of stage terrain and ink the ground just beyond that terrain.
Fixed an issue causing the hit animation of a Sloshing Machine’s shots to not display in the correct location when the spiral portion of the shot hit placed objects like Splash Walls directly.
Fixed an issue causing an unnecessary hit animation to display when a Curling Bomb slid across a Sponge.
Fixed an issue causing Sponges not to change size when hit with a Curling Bomb on a particular side.
Fixed an issue making it difficult to place Ink Mines on top of the tower in Tower Control.
When attacking a player performing a Splashdown special just prior to their descent, the condition of the attacking player’s internet connection determined whether or not damage would be dealt. Damage will now always be dealt correctly regardless of connection condition.
Due to this change, the situation will no longer occur in which damage is dealt regardless of whether or not the attacked player appears to take damage or not just prior to starting their descent when performing a Splashdown special.
Fixed an issue causing players using brush weapons who performed an attack while simultaneously activating a Splashdown special during a super jump to not perform the Splashdown.
Fixed an issue causing explosion damage from an Inkjet’s shots not to register when the shots appear not to hit on the screen of the attacking player, but did not appear to hit on the screen of the player being attacked.

Fixed an issue causing an Ink Storm’s raining animation not to display in the correct location when swimming through its area of effect.
Climbing surfaces with the Baller where inkable walls connect to non-inkable walls will now be easier.
Fixed an issue causing Respawn Punisher to not take effect when defeated by an enemy with that gear ability while the player also had Respawn Punisher equipped.
Changed the effect of Respawn Punisher so that when a player has it equipped, allies splatted by the explosion from the Rainmaker after its time limit runs out will not suffer its effects.
When an opponent who splats you is using the Respawn Punisher or Haunt and the effects of those gear abilities is activated, that activation will stand out clearly on the screen while waiting to respawn.
Fixed an issue in Tower Control matches causing players caught between a stage terrain feature and the metal grating portion of the tower’s platform to be pushed inside the stage feature.
Fixed an issue in Rainmaker matches causing the explosion animation from the Rainmaker’s shots to appear after the actual explosion when its shots hit a Splash Wall or expanded Brella.
Fixed an issue in Clam Blitz causing the barrier to be destroyed at the same time the goal descended when clams landed on top of the goal in its raised position.
Fixed an issue in Clam Blitz matches causing clams tossed by other players not to be picked up when touched when the player’s internet connection quality is poor.
Fixed an issue in Clam Blitz matches allowing players to remain on the cover in the upper part of the goal.
Fixed an issue in Starfirsh Mainstage where placement of obstacles could be slightly off causing slight asymmetry between the two sides of the map.
Fixed an issue in Sturgeon Shipyard causing bubbles from the Bubble Blower that explode beneath the central bridge to mistakenly ink the walkway on the bridge.
Fixed an issue in Sturgeon Shipyard causing the surfaces of the drawbridge to not count on the turf map when inked at a specific time while in motion by bombs or other objects.
Fixed an issue in Manta Maria during Rainmaker matches allowing players to make their way deep into enemy turf from above the goal.
Fixed an issue in Blackbelly Skatepark during Rainmaker matches allowing players to make their way deep into enemy turf by making the side of a crate in your turf uninkable, then making use of the side of the crate.

Changes to Salmon Run
Fixed an issue causing players to rarely move inside the stage object when in contact with the egg basket while it contained Golden Eggs.
Fixed an issue causing damage indicators to not appear or damage to be registered by attacking a Steel Eel’s weak point when multiple Steel Eels gathered in the same location.
Fixed an issue causing players to rarely be unable to pick up any more Golden Eggs when multiple players tried to pick up the same Golden Egg and a player disconnected from the match.
Fixed an issue preventing players from rescuing downed friend (in life preserver form) even when hitting them directly with a Splat Bomb when the internet connection quality is poor.

Changes to Spectator Mode
Fixed an issue in Private Battles when a player is using spectator mode, causing a sound effect to play in the middle of the stage as if the player were submerging themselves in ink.

The main stage lineup for the Evolution Championship Series 2018 has been announced.

BlazBlue Central Fiction has been removed and we see new entrant BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle join in. Melee and Smash for Wii U are still here while DRAGON BALL FighterZ makes an entrance. Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite is nowhere to be seen along with The King of Fighters XIV. I’m glad to see Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 still going strong. It is my favourite fighting game. Tekken 7 and Injustice 2 are still going strong and Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition joins in as well. I was hoping to see ARMS join in since it was at EVO Japan. The full lineup is below:

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition
Tekken 7
Injustice 2
DRAGON BALL FighterZ
Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2
BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

EVO 2018 will take place from August 3 to August 5 in Los Vegas.

Gfinity’s Elite Series has a new team joining its third season – Hashtag United. They’re a football team, esports organisation and YouTube channel.

In the Elite Series Hashtag United will compete against esports teams like Fnatic, Vitality and Team Envy for a share of a £250,000 prize pool, and it kicks off on March 9 at GFinity’s Esports Arena in London.

Hashtag United were formed as a non-league football team in 2016, and gained a following when they started recording their matches and posting them onto YouTube. Since then they’ve managed to appear in FIFA 18 and Top Eleven, get their own kit manufacturer and build up a successful FIFA esports team. They’re now looking to broaden themselves to include Rocket League and Street Fighter V in competitive esports.

If you’ve got an interest in Hashtag United, or esports in general it might be an idea to get yourself down to the Esports Arena for a bit of this action when it starts up. You can find more information over at the official site.

Caffeine unveils a a reimagined social broadcasting platform.

In a world where most people are on Twitch and YouTube Gaming for any live streaming of games or even Facebook Live Videos, Caffeine is approaching things a bit differently. It has been designed to be safe at its core. It will let you broadcast via a PC game software, webcam on macOS or Windows, and the Caffeine iOS app. Ben Keighran, CEO of Caffeine, commented:

“We’re incredibly excited to be sharing more details on the pre-release version of Caffeine. I left Apple to create a company that would fundamentally change the way we create, consume, share, and monetize live content. Our goal was to re-imagine every aspect of live broadcasting — ignoring the good things we could do and focusing on the really great things instead. We are committed to building the best experience for creators, giving them everything they need, from the broadcasting software all the way through to how the audience discovers and enjoys their content. We have put together a world-class engineering and content team that will transform the way the world thinks about live broadcasting.”

Caffeine is in pre-release mode right now and you can check out the website here or the iOS app here.

Blizzard just updated Overwatch on all platforms with Blizzard World and the new cosmetics update.

Announced a little while ago, the new cosmetics coming to Overwatch have been slowly revealed on Twitter. The patch today also includes the new Escort / Assault Map, Blizzard World.

Highlights from the patch are below:

New Assault/Escort Map: Blizzard World

Relive where you took your first steps in Azeroth, where you confronted the Lord of Terror, and where you spawned your first zerg rush—all of these epic memories come together on Overwatch’s newest Assault/Escort hybrid map, Blizzard World! This theme park brings the magic of Blizzard’s many worlds into one place so your most epic memories can come to life as you attack and defend the payload across Azeroth, Tristram, and the Koprulu Sector.

The Blizzard World map will be disabled in Competitive Play until the start of Season 9. It will be available in Quick Play and Custom Games starting with today’s patch.

Cosmetics Update

Starting now, loot boxes have been infused with over 100 cosmetics inspired by Blizzard World, Overwatch animated shorts, and more! Collect new legendary skins, including: Barbarian Zarya, Black Cat D.Va, Crusader Reinhardt, Ecopoint: Antarctica Mei, Kabuki Hanzo, and emotes such as Mercy’s Parasol, Sombra’s Marioneta, and Tracer’s Bomb Spin. Additionally, players will discover new highlight intros like Bastion’s Reconfigure, Soldier: 76’s Lights Out, Winston’s Roll, and many more.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition releases on January 19 in Europe and we have patch notes for the big update.

There will be balance changes and adjustments across the board. Servers will go down early morning (PDT) on January 16. They are set to come back up in the Afternoon that day. Disc owners of SFV: Arcade Edition will need ot install the latest update that includes Extra Battle Mode, Team Battle Mode, and new balance changes. The physical edition will include a code that unlocks both sets of character passes that are already available for purchase to everyone playing SFV. Highlights of the patch notes are below:

GENERAL

Training Mode Options

In the Attack Data display, you can now view each action’s frame data.
You can now turn on Frame Advantage in Color to determine when each action has advantage.
If the character is in blue, they have advantage. If they’re in red, they have disadvantage. Take a look at the example below.

Fighter ID and Home Change

As of January 16, you will be able to change your Fighter ID (FID) and Home (flag) using either 200K Fight Money or MSRP $9.99 in the store.
One purchase of the “Fighter ID & Home Change” ticket will allow you one access opportunity where you can change your FID and Home once.
Even if you change only the FID or only the Home during this access, it will still consume the ticket and count as an instance. So if you want to change both, please change them at this time.
All items purchased from the in-game shop and/or the PlayStation Store and/or the Steam Store as well as play data will not be affected when changing your FID and/or Home.
Updated FID and Home flag will not be reflected in some portion of the game such as previous play history (e.g. Battle Log, Replay Data, etc.)
Please be aware that selecting a Home has no bearing on matchmaking.

Grand Master Rank

The Grand Master Rank is now available for players who have League Points of over 35,000.

Overall Balancing

Increased active frames for Regular Throws from 2F to 3F
Increased combo scaling for combos that include a V-Trigger activation
Increased recovery for Command Throws
Made revisions to the hurtboxes for jumping attacks, and to the normal moves that are primarily used as anti-airs
Changed properties of moves that change the position of the character, which may affect certain combos

Full patch notes with character balance changes can be viewed here.

The post Splatoon 2 gets a major update this week appeared first on GodisaGeek.com.

]]>

Nintendo just announced 2 major content updates for Splatoon 2.

The first of these arrives this week with the second one following in December. The updates will add new content through gear, stages, and more. Here’s what the November 24 update includes:

Four New Battle Stages: While four new battle stages are coming to Splatoon 2, they won’t all be available immediately after downloading the update. Like with previous additions, the stages will roll out over the subsequent weeks, giving players new surprises as they play throughout the holiday season and beyond. The first new battle stage, MakoMart, will be available to play on Saturday 25th November, with Shellendorf Institute, Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall coming soon. The new MakoMart stage is a giant superstore-style stage and Shellendorf Institute is also new to the series, while Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall are popular stages returning from the original Splatoon game.

New Salmon Run Stage: Fan-favourite multiplayer mode Salmon Run is getting a new stage. After downloading the update, Salmonid Smokeyard will be added to the stage rotation. In Salmonid Smokeyard, a wide gap on the beach divides two upper platforms, with fan lifts being the quickest way to traverse the two platforms. Teamwork is required to use the fan lifts effectively.

New Gear: Approximately 140 pieces of gear are being added to Splatoon 2. These include shoes, headgear and clothes, like a motocross mask, additional winter clothing, as well as returning items from the original Splatoon game.

New Battle Music: Two new bands have been gaining popularity in Inkopolis! The punk-flavoured Bottom Feeders and classically-trained avant-garde-style Ink Theory are contributing new songs to the already music-rich game.

New Hairstyle: When customising an Inkling, four new hairstyles will be available to choose from – two each for female and male characters.

Higher Level Caps: Currently, players are maxed out at Level 50. After downloading the update, the new maximum level will be raised to 99. If players talk to Judd when they reach Level 99, they’ll have the option to reset their level display to Level ★1 so they can continue raising their level.

New amiibo Functionality: Tapping a compatible amiibo figure after the update will let players take and share photos in reset locations in Battle Stages, in addition to being able to take photos in Inkopolis Square. Players can also add fun filters to their images.

Convenient Gear Swapping: Players who want to change gear between battles in Regular Battle, Ranked Battle and Splatfest Battle (Solo) won’t have to exit to the lobby anymore! After downloading the update, gear can be swapped out without leaving the match room, making it quicker to get back to splatting. For Regular Battle, this also means players can play the next battle with the same players.

The mid December update includes the following:

Clam Blitz: In Clam Blitz, competing Inklings are tasked with collecting clams scattered around the stage. After one is picked up, the clam follows the player. The objective is to throw the clam into the basket near the opponent’s base, and the first team to score 100 points wins! But, of course, this being the fiercely competitive world of Splatoon 2, things are not as easy as they seem. The baskets are protected by a barrier, which much be destroyed first. After collecting 10 clams, the player will earn a Power Clam. These super-powered clams are the key to breaking the barrier, so strategic Inklings need to decide which clams are used to destroy the barrier and which are used to earn points. Not to mention the extra-satisfying opportunity to steal opponents’ clams by splatting them.

Watch a new video showcasing these updates below:

How many inklings do I need to sacrifice to be able to skip the Stage schedule intro?

Splatoon 2 is available on Nintendo Switch. Read our review of it here.

The newly announced Moira is now playable in Overwatch on all platforms. Moira is a support hero and her abilities are as follows:

BIOTIC GRASP
Using her left hand, Moira expends biotic energy to heal allies in front of her. Her right hand fires a long-range beam weapon that saps enemies’ health, healing Moira and replenishing her biotic energy.

BIOTIC ORB
Moira launches a rebounding biotic sphere; she can choose between a regeneration effect that heals the allies it passes through, or a decay effect that deals damage to enemies.

FADE
Moira quickly teleports a short distance.

COALESCENCE
Moira channels a long-range beam that both heals allies and bypasses barriers to damage her enemies.

Overwatch is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. There’s a free weekend on this weekend as well.

Konami is taking the next step to bringing PES to eSports by partnering with eFootball.Pro to establish a professional competition.

The aim is to create a league and invite players from all over the world, and to broadcast the entire thing globally. PES is the best football videogame in the world, and Konami wants an eSports event to match.

Barcelona player Gerard Pique is the president of eFootball.Pro (bringing the conjunction with PES and Barcelona closer together), and he’s understandably excited about the prospect:

The goal is to drive all that makes traditional football the king of sports, towards electronic football,
towards eSports. We want to bind the best of both worlds to bring the public a new entertainment model that they love since the
first day.

Hideki Hayakawa, CEO of Konami, is also similarly stoked:

KONAMI has always been committed to delivering quality entertainment experiences to its
customers, and eSports is an opportune market for reaching a growing audience. eFootball.Pro’s unique position in
eSports, combined with its strong football leadership, will allow us to deliver a fresh way for customers
to enjoy our products. We are thrilled to collaborate with eFootball.Pro.

There are no hard details yet, but rest assured that when there are, there’ll be a news item that reads a lot like PR blurb to report on it.

Gadgets360 spoke to Lead Engineer Tim Ford at BlizzCon 2017 about all things Overwatch.

One of the interesting responses was about Overwatch not having a macOS release. Overwatch is Blizzard’s only game to not be on macOS. Tim Ford commented:

“We have no plans of making for giving this game on the Mac. There are several technology decisions that Apple has made that has made it a little difficult for us to release Overwatch in the way we want it to be consumed, and that is why we haven’t pursued it.”
